Have you guys seen this article. I actually think Kelly has the CEO mentality that would be better suited for the NFL. Any Cincy fans out there? I know the Jets will be looking! (I do agree that everything in Kelly's demeanor this year says he is tired of ND. Fans are picking that up.)

But, JMO, he is otherwise unemployable!

At this point not firing him is worse than keeping him for more reasons than just being a terrible coach. Now the rumor mill is amuck, half of it could be true, and recruiting is falling apart. Now that recruiting is falling apart we are looking at having to dig ourselves out of a possible decades worth of downward spiral. This could all probably be avoided with the hiring of a new great coach that could put some life into the program and pull in some recruits. Unfortunately this probably will not occur because the administration has a problem with admitting they are wrong. As with so many mistakes it is probably an ego problem.

Pers -- you never got over ND firing your boy, Charlie. Say what you want about Kelly but he has been a successful coach at several places. That is why teams keep looking at him. He will either stay with ND and have us back to 9 or 10 wins next year... or wind up at another place where he will be successful. I feel like he's done. I'm okay with that but I don't see any coaches out there that inspire. Maybe Fleck but he is so unproven.

I'll always be thankful for our undefeated season and first trip to the national champ game since '89. (And even last year when his only loses were to top five teams. Two of those were by a play or two.) To say that he is a 'terrible coach' is overstating it.

These are good points. Kelly is not a bad coach per se. At ND, he has proven to be a terribly inconsistent and incomplete coach. Plus the two years previous to this one, even a blind man could see that his teams were hamstrung by unbelievable numbers of injuries at key positions.

I think if he won two more games this year, there wouldn't be any issue with the administration, but now that the natives are restless and Kelly is apparently looking for a new gig, it is getting bad.

He's had prior success...no doubt. Unfortunately, his coaching effort against NCSU was one of the most mind-boggling bad performences I've seen from any coach at any level. It was almost like bizarro world...
