Burress. 100 meter

I just watched an interesting video about the overvalue of speed at WR in the NFL.

The fastest 40 time guys wash out, guys like John Ross, Marquies Goodwin, Jacoby Ford, JJ Nelson, Tyquan Thornton, Deryius Heyward-Bay, etc. super fast forty times, and did nothing in the league.

Then you have guys like Jarvis Landry (4.77), Cooper Cupp (4.66), Anquan Boldin (4.71), Jerry Rice (4.71), Larry Fitzgerald (4.67), Chris Carter (4.63), etc. that are considered slow and are some of the best in the league or even NFL history.

11.24 is not fast..

Spin that any way you wish.

Meet of Champions Wednesday in New Jersey.

Winner runs 10.3 and first 7 are under 11.

Burress not one of them and I have no idea if he participated.

Compare to what we would consider the fast WR's at ND....

Tate ran a 10.98 hundred......Fuller ran a 4.32 40.....Floyd was a 4.47 40..........Most LB's are 4.5-4.7 as are DE's these days.....some Linemen and DL are under 5.0 now. Thats more TE speed....

In 1998 I was considered a blazer for white kid when I ran a 11.23 100m. It’s still pretty damn fast today, it’s relative of course but the percentage of boys in HS or College that can run 11.3 or under is quite small.

I played DI baseball (CF) and I can assure you I didn’t cross to many kids regardless of race that ran the home to home faster.

We put too much emphasis on timed speed anyways. My good friend ran a legit 4.4 flat but was caught from behind several times in pads, for whatever reason he didn’t maintain his edge in speed with pads on. Also, how many guys run an all out 100 yards in football anyways.

Keon Coleman had a slow 40 but one of the best shuttle and gauntlet times, video after video shows him running away from defenders in games.
I ran 11.2 as a 10th grader wandering in from soccer season. That's a good time but not elite. you can run a 4.4 forty and not be a burner in the 100 because it's different. My senior year in HS my best time was 10.85. Best 40 time I ever ran was 4.49 at 250 pounds while in college and I do not think I coulda run a 10.85 100 at that time. . You actually do need endurance to keep that 40 yard speed to go the 70 more yards you run in the 100m. Oh and for the "that's fast for a white guy" comment above. Our 4x100 team in 1988 broke what would be considered the sectional record at 41.9. School record that stood for at least 15 years I believe. 4 white guys. 2 of us were three sport guys who rolled out in February to track practice. And this was in CA. Which is not a slow state.

Where in California?

10.85 would be elite. J Love ran a 10.76 100m for the Missouri championship.
