I don't understand all the criticism directed at TB's throwing mechanics. To me he looks a lot like NFL qb Philip Rivers.

Fragile physicality is a tough one … sliding development !Tyler is capable of making throws despite poor mechanics. He probably has similar arm strength to book/pyne and that's disappointing. He used to have a pretty darn good arm when he threw it over the top.
His release got quicker, that's probably only benefit of mechanics change he made
Three main issues with tyler right now
1. terrible oline and average at best WR play his first two starts
2. he doesn't know how to read a defense pre or post snap. Far too many bad decisions. He's thrown 2 pick 6's in a small amount of attempts, and was close to throwing more. That's beyond bad.
3. His running ability is what gives him a chance to be really good, yet he can't stay healthy when running.
I guess, but his physicality in getting the extra yard is huge for the offense. He's not a wiggle/quick type of QB, he's more of a one cut speed/power.Fragile physicality is a tough one … sliding development !
My guess is that Rees has pounded into Tyler’s head that he needs to stay in the pocket and give the passing plays time to develop. With Tyler’s running ability, it seems to me that Rees was afraid he would abandon the pocket too readily, much like Book often did with pressure. But Tyler is not a pure or even good pocket passer, and he played Six plus quarters with terrible offensive line play. A recipe for disaster which is what we got. I totally agree that he needs plays designed to roll him out, and the freedom to abandon the pocket and extend plays as this is a strength. That said, not at all sure this group of receivers is capable of creating separation like we normally see when a college QB extends passing plays with his legs. I’ve come to the opinion that Rees and Buchner are not a good fit. Put Buchner at Michigan, and we’d be seeing a Dynamic fun to watch QB.I guess, but his physicality in getting the extra yard is huge for the offense. The biggest thing that shocked me with Tyler is how he almost never extends plays with his athleticism to buy time for WRs to get open. It's what makes Stroud and Young so good. They aren't even as athletic as tyler but they extend plays so much and avoid sacks that result in big plays. I put a lot of that on Rees designing an offense that has an athletic QB sitting in the pocket all day.
Rees focuses on going through progressions, and that's good. But creating more time and giving wrs more time to get open is way way more impactful than quickly going through progressions. This is college not the NFL.
Mechanics is nothing more than a trendy talking point and complete bullshit.I don't understand all the criticism directed at TB's throwing mechanics. To me he looks a lot like NFL qb Philip Rivers.
Yup. Buchner should have been given the keys to a Corvette but Rees put on a regulator.I don't understand all the criticism directed at TB's throwing mechanics. To me he looks a lot like NFL qb Philip Rivers.
I don't think needing to stay in the pocket to go through all your reads is a good recipe for success in todays game. If anyone watched the UT alabama game, a ton of big plays were made by QBs buying more time and letting people get open.My guess is that Rees has pounded into Tyler’s head that he needs to stay in the pocket and give the passing plays time to develop.
