I don't understand all the criticism directed at TB's throwing mechanics. To me he looks a lot like NFL qb Philip Rivers.

Tyler Buchner rocks! God damn is it frustrating that he's out for the season. But Drew Pyne's got a few more good games in him.....

Tyler is capable of making throws despite poor mechanics. He probably has similar arm strength to book/pyne and that's disappointing. He used to have a pretty darn good arm when he threw it over the top.

His release got quicker, that's probably only benefit of mechanics change he made

Three main issues with tyler right now

1. terrible oline and average at best WR play his first two starts

2. he doesn't know how to read a defense pre or post snap. Far too many bad decisions. He's thrown 2 pick 6's in a small amount of attempts, and was close to throwing more. That's beyond bad.

3. His running ability is what gives him a chance to be really good, yet he can't stay healthy when running.

Fragile physicality is a tough one … sliding development !

I guess, but his physicality in getting the extra yard is huge for the offense. He's not a wiggle/quick type of QB, he's more of a one cut speed/power.

The biggest thing that shocked me with Tyler is how he almost never extends plays with his athleticism to buy time for WRs to get open. It's what makes Stroud and Young so good. They aren't even as athletic as tyler but they extend plays so much and avoid sacks that result in big plays. I put a lot of that on Rees designing an offense that has an athletic QB sitting in the pocket all day.

Rees focuses on going through progressions, and that's good. But creating more time and giving wrs more time to get open is way way more impactful than quickly going through progressions. This is college not the NFL.

And he works to impart scrambling technique, to develop into effective duel threat QB’s.

If you'd like a laugh, here are the passing stats from that ~33 minute "2021 Highlights" video. And yep.....I watched it all. Let's just say the first 5'ish minutes had me intrigued.

17 of 31
3 INT's (1 returned for a TD)
3 TD's

My guess is that Rees has pounded into Tyler’s head that he needs to stay in the pocket and give the passing plays time to develop. With Tyler’s running ability, it seems to me that Rees was afraid he would abandon the pocket too readily, much like Book often did with pressure. But Tyler is not a pure or even good pocket passer, and he played Six plus quarters with terrible offensive line play. A recipe for disaster which is what we got. I totally agree that he needs plays designed to roll him out, and the freedom to abandon the pocket and extend plays as this is a strength. That said, not at all sure this group of receivers is capable of creating separation like we normally see when a college QB extends passing plays with his legs. I’ve come to the opinion that Rees and Buchner are not a good fit. Put Buchner at Michigan, and we’d be seeing a Dynamic fun to watch QB.

Mechanics is nothing more than a trendy talking point and complete bullshit.

Too many kids get ruined trying to play robotic like Peyton Manning.

The MOST important thing and honestly the ONLY important thing is accuracy.

Rivers had bad mechanics but he was accurate and a decent arm.

They don't ask how ...they ask if.

Buchner can either throw accurate or not. You can tweak things to help but accuracy and arm strength are simply god given.
Like speed. You can polish it but you're either quick or not. That's God's doing.

yep, TB’s choice of football team was not well thought out.

I don't think needing to stay in the pocket to go through all your reads is a good recipe for success in todays game. If anyone watched the UT alabama game, a ton of big plays were made by QBs buying more time and letting people get open.

I think even our WRs are open if given time. Problem is pynes arm is so weak he won' be able to hit anyone far down the field on the run.
