Book a 5 Star?

He really does not have a whole lot of experience he can be accurately judged on. Let’s see him responds when he is facing a tough D that puts a pass rush on him. Or what he can do if a team can shut down the running attack or if a team can cover 1:1. There is a lot of football ahead of him.

If he was this good in high school would he be a 5 Star?

What I saw last Saturday was almost exactly what book did in high school.

Lots of short and midrange passing with good accuracy and enough athleticism to get by.

Not a big guy, not a big army, and not a top-level athlete.

given that combo, his ranking as a high three star or low for a star player seems about right.

He has played really well, ONE time, against one of the worst defenses in the country. Let's wait and see how he plays over the long haul before we put him into the same category of 5 star QB play as a Tua Tagavailoa or Trevor Lawrence, who will be absolutely brilliant over the next few years.

Furthermore, quarterback is, by far, the hardest position to predict, because it's nearly impossible to measure / weigh the intangibles and mental components of a game that often separate average, good and elite quarterbacks. Despite professional scouting, it's often an issue at the professional level as well, relative to college quarterbacks being drafted.

It’s not where you start, it’s where you finish and what you do along the way that matters. Last years number one NFL pick was a 3 Star with a handful of offers. Dont get caught stargazing too much

Once you step in between those white lines, stars don’t matter. Granted, you add 3 inches to Book’s height he’s probably a solid 4 star out of high school. Who cares.

He played well in his start against UNC last year, and his relief stints, especially in the bowl game against a defense filled with future NFL players. He doesn’t seem fazed by the moment.

High school rankings are a joke.
Ya, I'm sure the top five teams having the highest amount of five star HS athletes is just a coincidence huh. Sure stars are not the end all be all, but you cannot dismiss facts.

So far he’s passing your test with flying colors. A number of times tonight he’s gotten out of a good pass rush and gotten positive yards running and passing, including that TD right before half. This is the best QB play I’ve seen in a long time in blue and gold.

I laughed at the Montana comparisons after last week... but that TD to claypool was an identical Montana play.

High school rankings are a joke.

No, they’re not. If they were a joke then there would be no correlation between HS ranking and NFL draft position, but there is. A lower ranking doesn’t preclude a player from being successful in college, but the likelihood a player is a difference maker in college is much higher if he were ranked highly in high school.
