Biggest questions about Ben Davis

Does anyone know how Davis's father turned out after life in football? I've heard he was or is the leading tackler in BAMA history but did he continue on to an NFL career? Did he get his degree from Bama? If no NFL or a short career with limited earnings did he move on to a good career in life after football? After reading a couple articles about this kid it seems to me that the answers to these questions will determine if he goes to ND or not. If his dad struggled with life after football to get a good job then I like ND's chances. This would give him a first hand look at football only carrying someone so far. He may end up being a great NFL linebacker but he seems smart enough right now to have the perspective that if football doesn't work out long term what will I have to fall back on? Just a few thoughts.

once he confirmed Bama as his leader 2 days ago, this one appears over.
The staff took a great run at him, did all they could.

It looks like he had limited pro success. I found this old article (2008) that he was back in Alabama teaching High School. http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/article/20080605/NEWS/493990092

It looks like he finished his undergraduate degree at the University of Phoenix and then obtained his masters in special education. I.E. I could be wrong but he did not graduate from Alabama and was drafted in the 9th round and played about the length of an average NFL career of 2.5 - 3 years.

We will see if the Davis family realizes that if Ben goes to ND he can graduate in three years if he works hard, go to the NFL skill and health willing and broaden his network out of the south.

Unless you have info that isn't readily available he actually said he as "no favorite" after his visit to Auburn over the weekend. And he said the same thing a couple of days before right after BK and staff visited him at home. I think it's still likely he will go to Alabama but he seems to be leaving the door open that there may be a surprise tomorrow.

Haven't seen a direct quote, but have read many posts saying essentially what Perse shared; and that is Davis pronounced Alabama as his lead two days after his recent visit there.

he was my favorite D prospect. As things look, for the 4 named 'prime' targets, the needle is not pointing up.
It is possible we see a "to" flip ((DT or RB) and thats it.
Kelly, Davis, JMcC and DRob are not trending ND. JMO, I think they are getting better "offers" as the competition heats up. The kind of offer that ND does not offer.

Yes, he said Alabama was his leader after he visited there. His visit to Alabama came before his in-home with BK and staff. After the BK in-home he said he had no leader and that "signing day will be interesting." He then visited Auburn this past weekend and said he has "no favorite." As far as I know he has not said any more beyond that, so his last official word has been he has no leader.

Perse all you have been doing recently has been insinuating all these guys are being offered money and are potentially taking it or thinking about taking it. Unless you have proof of this, which you don't, why continue to attack the character of young men?

Look, you guys need to get over this, it is very, very rare ND gets a commitment this late in the cycle from a 5* or even a high 4*. It happens, but very rarely. Te'o and who else? Once in a blue moon. The type of kids who need the attention, or are unsure of their direction choose something else at this time. ND is not the school for them. A person knows by now - or will be easily swayed by another school's pitch. ND is for players who find the culture of the school and the team motivating and challenging. If these recruits were really interested they would have already committed. This class is pretty much done, except for a guy here or there. Typical Kelly class, not bad not great, just 8-4.

At this stage, is it the character of the "young men" that should be attacked or the character of the parents and guardians.

Does it eve matter? Sure there are schools that cheat and the NCAA is terrible at catching, investigating and/or enforcing the rules that are violated. Knowing that, I don't see how its justified to constantly make statements implying that there are payments being made because a kid has chosen a SEC school over others, namely ND, without proof of the matter when that kid (who could be a good kid with a good family) has done nothing to warrant that type of attack. Kid commits or doesn't commit, it is what it is, but this attitude that we can attack the kids character because he goes to the SEC is problematic at best.

Totally agree with Sal. Hate posts that suggest recruits who choose to go elsewhere are on the take. Lots of legitimate reasons for Davis to choose Alabama, Robertson to choose UGA and Kelly to choose Oklahoma, etc... Hope Kelly surprises, but doubt it. Still really want LB Jones to be a ND commit tomorrow.

misunderstanding: it is the character of college football. The game is being played according to the way the game is being played. It just got going down the slippery slope and is gaining momentum.

Again this implies that student athletes are actively trying to do something ethically wrong without proof. If you want to make that personal attack on a player without having any reason to believe its true other then, "every is getting paid something to sign somewhere in college sports" then why isn't the same true as an explanation as to why Daelin Hayes went to ND?

Also... Perse evidently has me on ignore or is actively ignoring me... if you quote me he will see it but I doubt he will respond. He will respond to being called a jerk but will not enter into an actual discussion about any of his views it seems

btw

there really should not be a feeling of letdown; much of the hype for the targets was promoted by media speculation. Interest was generated, so from that perspective: success.

The offensive class for the 2nd straight year is outstanding to elite.
Once again, defensively results leave the DL wanting. This will be problematic soon enough. No quick fix.
The D will be ok vs all but the top 10 type teams and the offense will overcome the D shortcomings.

What say Ye Perse?

You are a dumb A##hole, Purse. Nd has recruited a great defensive class including a 5 star defensive end--Daelon Hayes and a high 4 star dend Kareem (who we stole from Alabama)!!. You are a disgrace to the Irish fan base. May you burn in hell !!

None of those examples suggest it happens with every recruit and sure doesn't suggest it's happening with any of the 3 recruits ND may miss out on.

Jeez Bodi, you truly make a jack ass out of yourself everyday, on this site.

I can absolutely count on logging on, and seeing something completely stupid and irrational by you. Everyday. Do you have no pride or dignity?
