Beach...your opinion

A week off can help..it can hurt.....we will see, but I like the Irish chances......I know beach I'm a Homer also.....as we should be.

Nothing wrong with that Poet. I have called three loses so far. Stanford, Wash St and the Irish. I am batting .500. Sadly my average will go up Saturday. I would be surprised if you win by less than 14 and stunned if less than 10.

The season you cats are having with the attrition your boy's are facing speaks volumes good luck this weekend

I don't think SC has a talent advantage at any position but wide receiver. And it's a significant advantage. I think the rest of the positions are close.

I think ND has a coaching advantage in the coordinator positions, which will be the difference in the game.
You forgetting the most important one?? QB?

Really? WR is probably our weakest position group.

Beachcardinal, WR has been a disappointment for SC. But is it the game plans or weak OL? SC seems to lack the go to guy so far. Sam has not identified his security blanket. But the team has so many problems it really is hard to say this group or that group is the weakest. Luck got them this far, but it is about to run out.

How is your D against the run? Because that's obviously the strong point of our offense. We're 5th in the nation with 308 rushing ypg, and 3 of the teams ahead of us run the triple option.

Beach, was directing this question to you earlier. I just looked up, and you guys are currently ranked 61st in the country against the run, with 147 ypg. That seems okay, but not great. Love had 17 carries for 160 yds and a TD, but probably didn't get more carries because Stanford was playing from behind.

At times we have been good against the run. Love got 80 years on one play. Same thing at the W Mich game. It a line on line thing. If your O-line is good you will have no problem. I just don't see us hanging with you.

Can you share your opinion as to the USC S&C facilities, S&C coach and S&C program?
How state of the art is the S&C overall facility and program?

My take. USC is very fast, but they are generally not a super physical team. They do play very well on d when they are totally healthy. They have one of the best defenses in the country, but they have had so many injuries this year that the play has been a bit sporadic. I dont think it is usc's talent on d necessarily. I think Clancy Pendergast is a very talented dc. He is more talented than our oc, tee martin. To me, we should be a lot worse on d with all the youth, inexperience and injuries we have had. I thought the d this year would be a year a way from being really good. The depth along the dl and de is really thin right now. Even the guys who are playing are totally banged up and are barely making it through games. Many are hardly practicing at all and then just playing in the games.

ND should pound sc on the ground for the whole game. Over time nd will get some good yardage. They may not break too many long plays because it is very hard to outrun usc, but they can average 5 or 6 yards a carry by the time the game is over. ND will need td's in the red zone. But sc is really hard to score on when teams get inside the 10. Our dc is that good.

The offense at usc has been injured quite a bit as well. Against wsu 2/3 of starters were either out completely or playing with real injuries. It was ridiculous. I think both starting tackles are going to play this week, but I am not sure. We also lost a 4 year starter at guard and last year we had 3 starters go pro. But the guys we brought back this yr were generally very experienced and talented. But you cant lose 3 to the pros and then 3 more to injuries and be dominant. We have had true freshman starting at two spots at different times this year. If we are fully healthy minus the one guard, we do have a very good OL.

I would not suggest stacking the box against sam darnold, nor would I would recommend dropping 8 in to coverage. They guy is so talented and can get out of any jam. I would simply mix it up on d like texas and wsu did. They kept running unusually complex schemes and shifting at the last moment or even right at the start of the play. A good dc can really slow down sam darnold. It made it very hard for sam darnold and the Oline to read the defense and so they could not play that fast. Darnold is uber talented, but very raw when ti comes to reading defenses. So if you a run a good scheme, it will slow him down. He is also is a gunslinger who takes huge risks, but he will come through in the clutch. His feet and pocket presence are amazing. If he catches fire for whatever reason, he is almost impossible to stop. He is total winner. Best 4th quarter qb I have ever seen at usc. But we have a lot of inexperience and youth at the wr position this year so that has made it tough on him as well. Our top te has been out to and he and is beast. Some of those guys are now back from injury and others have matured so the wr core is actually pretty good right now.

I think nd is deeper and more veteran than usc this year and I think the coaching at nd is better this year. Plus it is a home game. So ND by 11.

It's going to be fun watching USC's big men squeeze out that narrow tunnel. The visitor's locker room looks nice and comfortable.

After USC's big men squeeze through that little tunnel (new), they'll be little skinny kids. :)

sam darnold is better than wimbush. rasheem green, cam smith and uchenna nwosu are probably better than nd's players. ron jones a little bit of a wash with adams, but I really like jones. tranquil is probably better than his counterparts at usc. your two top ol are better than sc's twp top guys. at wr, it might be a wash although burnett is really good. usc has had higher star averages per class, but that does not prove too much.

The difference will be your o-kine and coaching. If we come if with a perfect game plan we have a shot. If not we have no ability to adapt. Watch the Texas games. The highest I coached football was freshman high school, and I could have made better second half adjustments. Comparing something to my ability is a very low standard, so you know how bad we are.

Actually stacking the box give us fits. Sam is great but our WRs cannot separate. We may be better now that Tyler Vaughs is playing more though

the wr's are a lot healthier now beach. having mitchell back is big. and deontay is healthier and vaughns is playing well. at many points all we had was deontay. and petite has gotten better too. I would not stack the box against sam. he will beat in the air or with his feet. I would throw unusual schemes at him. just my 2 cents.

You are right and Vaughn is a big deal, but you are forgetting our D-line. No depth at all. That i why I said their O-line will be the deciding factor, along with our walk-on coach.

beach, you better keep an eye on Elko. The man knows defense and he'll make several major adjustments throughout the game. He will not wait until halftime to make major adjustments like most defensive coordinators.

beach, did you graduate from sc, stanford or nd?

None of the above. Grew up hating SC. I live in Orange County and the saying, "go for four, talk about it for 40", was true and annoying. But then two of my kids went there. My son was an athlete there. The Trojan family is no myth. Great place to go to school and incredible alumni support after.

One daughter got into the Ivy League. When she told her liaison she was thinking of going to SC instead, the person said, "Sure SC is better than the ivy League in California, but what about the rest of the world." She was right, it is.

Being on the SC's football team is quite an accomplishment, injury or not. I was never nearly a good enough athlete for that. Fight On.
I had offers from places like duke, vandy, NW, Georgetown, nc, brown, etc. I played in smaller league in hs and was good, but usc was incredible. USC was pretty outrageous in a couple of the years in the late 80's, The talent was off the charts. The coaching was up and down. Tollner was a bad coach. Smith was a good coach, but players did not always want to play hard for him. The 88 team sent 19 guys to the pros or some crazy number like that. But smith played favorites and it upset some other talented players. He was a realy weak recruiter and when the tollner players left he had trouble re stocking. Tollner was a nasty guy too, but but he was good in front of the parents of the recruits.
