I hope Brey can use this and maybe a deep tourny run in the NCAA to get players he could get not before. Their has to be a few 4 and 5 star guys in the midwest who value a good education and want to stay close to home while playing in the ACC . Especially in Indiana. I know the one and dones will continue to go to the semi pro schools. I'd just like to see this thing continue to grow. Their were some former ND players interviewed that said as much.

The time is now. Pat said it best ... they are sharks that smell blood in the water in regards to the NCAA tourney!!!!!!

Lets F..in Go !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be nice to see... I never understood why kids wouldn't want to go to ND. It obviously can't be academics because a lot of good players go to places like Duke, Stanford, GT, etc. I would have included North Carolina in there but when you have fake classes to pass student athletes it is a disgrace, how they aren't axed is beyond me!

Anyway you are right about the 1 and done kids, I doubt many would want to go to ND, but there are a lot of talented players who might want to get that education while advancing their basketball skills. When you can't get the Jordan's, Magic's, etc.. then you need good players who gel as a team, which is what we have now.

Either way congrats to the players and coaches... really great win and I hope they make a run in the tourney.

Go Irish!

I don't know about the other schools requirements, but having to take calculus is a pretty big deal. Some people not just athletes struggle with that immensely. Most other classes it would seem, just memorizing and tutoring can get you through, but I think everyone has a ceiling in mathematics. It definitely decreases the available athletes in the recruiting pool for ND.

If calculus really is a current requirement, ND needs to let it go. ND should be able to consistently land recruits ranked in the top 50-100 range. Watching ND's offence this year has been fun, and you would think recruits would want in on it.

It used to not be, but you were required to take two semesters of math, and for the vast majority of students that meant calculus, but that was back in the 1970s.

I took 'fun with numbers' my freshman year, calc the second semester. Got a better grade in calc! Go figure.

Are all first-year students at Notre Dame required to take calculus?

To complete the requirements of the First Year of Studies, all students must take two semesters of mathematics. Programs in the Colleges of Business, Engineering, and Science, as well as the School of Architecture require calculus. If you intend to continue in one of these colleges, you should begin with an appropriate calculus course. If you intend to enter the College of Arts and Letters, you may satisfy the mathematics requirement with math courses other than calculus, including logic and finite mathematics.

this is from the school website so got to figure its legit. Now finite mathematics and logic- probably not easier then calculus or if it is not by much. The difficulty is probably about the same no matter what course it is.

And those would scare off a lot of possible recruits.
