Does anyone know what the process entails for banning a poster and their IP address? I assume it must be a difficult process given that so many idiots are allowed to continue posting and banning doesn't seem to get rid of them. These imbeciles just keep returning with different handles. Just curious why these juveniles are allowed to turn this board into their personal playground with no real consequences.

When the most frequent poster on this board tries to insinuate after the Clemson game that the head coach coaches fumbling all bets are off for this forum to be taken seriously .

One of the great ironies re this board is that he has not been banned .

personal playground ? 25,000 posts --that is pathetic and should have been dealt with years ago .

never had a mod that was willing to actually do what the job called for. That is the simple answer. A mod should be about trying to make sure that trolls and those with running feuds are not allowed to take over threads. The occasional spam attack and such is his/her purview as well.

trying to find someone that will do this without being paid seems to be a problem for Rivals. Or more likely they do not consider it a priority and put little effort into it.
There are half a dozen posters here who should have been permanently banned a long time ago. Some have been but keep reappearing. Another thing the Mod has to do Is play whack a mole when they come back.

No longer think that we will be fortunate enough to get someone who will really try.

^ had not considered the mobile effect. Clearly the Mods here try to use the atmsphere here to promote the premium sites.

But, since the Mods can identify an identity, they would do so in instances where a poster is making threats deemed serious.

At least that was the approach Wax and Jack Friedman took.

I used to post on the jv board and some guy accused me of sitting naked in front of computer, jerking off to rivals. i told that poster he had gay tendencies, not that there is anything wrong with that. The mod, autzen_rocks banned me for eternity. what a dooshbag.

I guess his team sucked and he was having a hissy fit that day. Maybe he was dating the guy I made fun of, who knows.

Mods have a tough job and they do it poorly. Except IB, he is reasonable and level headed.

I guess most of you folks are feeling threatened by free speech and unpopular opinions. If you are looking for "safe places" to hide from micro aggressions go back to college . It may be expensive but they have very good baby sitting services from what I hear.

2 things:

1.) Rivals is all about numbers of hits

2.) Argus, el al, frustrates posters here to the point they get fed up and move to the premium boards. So, to that end by being a pariah he assists in creating revenue for Rivals.

the misconception is that there is anonymity: there is no such thing! NTP is like a finger print - if you commit some offense and they want to find you they can!

Mods are only allowed to ban a name. We have a limited ability to track multiple handles. But it is very primitive.

Mods are not allowed to ban everyone from an IP. And the reason is simple. You have lots of situations where multiple people log on from similar locations. VPN's etc.

As a rule if someone gets banned, especially if it is one of the well known trolls they will most likely come back. And sooner or later their true colors will show through again.

As for mods on the JV board you might try to email AR there Turnpike. Often there is a lot of finger pointing and accusations that go to the mods. And sometimes we don't have the full story or the correct story on a situation. And many times it is easier to lay the ban to stop all activities and then pick up the pieces.

And AR is seriously one of the easiest going guys I know. Did this ban happen before the board switch over @TurnpikeMike ?

Has zero to do with free speech and unpopular opinions. It has to do with certain posters using this board as a personal litter box.

After, I think. He responded to my post simply with, "bye" or "good bye." Oh well, I was tired of the police vs thug and racist crap anyway so good riddance.

On a side note, I get more sales calls done each day now.

Well I'm not sure of the background on it. But if you are interested in posting on that board again he is the guy to talk to. If he banned you.

Mods don't always ban a poster for comments; sometimes a poster will be put in the penalty box for a few weeks. Happened to me three or four years ago for cussing too much. Wax banned me for two weeks so I wrote Jack Freeman to apologize and promise to stop using foul language if he would change it to just one week. He changed it to one week and I have made every effort to stop getting carried away in threads where I would want to use foul language.

^ you really cannot take internet psycho's lightly; recent events prove that. Internet psychos' are just that Psychos' 365/24/7 !

Ara has offered more than once to moderate. He shows the kind of practical good judgement this requires, and I wish Rivals would take him up on his offer. It appears that the only banning that goes on here is when another poster goes running to Rivals and complains, and that is hardly the way to moderate a board.

Hahaha who were you fighting with?

This new forum does somewhat of a better job in that it offers the "Report" feature. You can now capture a specific post and describe to the mods your reason for reporting the poster. Not perfect but better than the "Wax You Have Mail" thread.

Oftenly moderating us about what you don't do more than what you do.

Mods are there to help drive new conversation and develop conversation that is on topic more than just punishing posters. Yes there are times to lay the law out. But in my time I think I only have like 4 or 5 bans of more than 3 days and of those only 1 lasted it's full term. But he earned that one to me. And since he has been back he has not strayed off the ranch.

And anyone on here that has been on the JV board recently will tell you that I am far from the popular mod there. Especially in the last week or two

So do I. If the folks who run this board don't have the time or wherewithal to moderate, I wish they would delegate this responsibility to someone who will.

This probably falls under the category there are no stupid questions only stupid people but can I ask what JV stands for? Thanks!

JV is the nickname for the SoundOff board. It is the same as these. But it is a national site instead of a team site. If you haven't spent time there try it.

Just keep in mind Homers that can't get over themselves tend to get chased out. But it will offer you a chance to see football from different fan bases

Other peoples opinions matter also..Sometimes your drivel is annoying also. Let people express what they want. Or just ignore it like i do yours......

When a poster says Brian Kelly has colin montgomery breasts and is allowed to stay on the board I guess all bets are off -- as long as juvenile nonsense like that is tolerated we will never have a constructive forum here - never .

It's "Montgomerie".

Not only does he have those, but he is also a known liar, disloyal, can't be trusted and quite often a purple faced vulgar gnome.

Feel free to refute the above....

PS Some alum are referring to him as "jiggles" or "jelly".

I thought you might like that....

As for juvenile, didn't your prior handles get punted?

Let's not forget your classic.

Thanks for the laughs "oh pious phony"....

See what I mean guys -- thank you

The staff is fair game when discussing matters about coaching or issues relating to football; there is quite a bit of latitude there. But that is where the line is.
Discussing players is a grey area; we think we can discuss the level of play and without mods to ask what is the limit there it is to each his own judgement.

Free speech and unpopular opinions are far different than trolling, idiocy and making a Notre Dame discussion board unreadable. Go look at the last 100 or so posts from Pazuzu, LGPazu and Gay Boy Gipper for a sampling of why banning is in order. Oh, and notive that BubbaJ and other UM fans disappeared as soon as the skunks took the tubes.

The Blue and Gold message board rules actually state:
Rule: Obscenities in post titles and handles will never be tolerated.
Rule: No personal attacks on anybody — fellow posters, BlueandGold.com and Rivals staff, Notre Dame coaches and players, etc.
Rule: Flame-only posters not allowed.
Rule: Post with respect to the truth.
Rule: No racist, obscene or sexist comments.
Rule: No posting of pornography.
Rule: No posting or distribution of any material that infringes and/or violates any right of a third party or any law.
Rule: No posting of commercial offers, competing ND websites or spamming of the board will be permitted.
Rule: Please remember — recruits, players, and their parents read our forums.
Rule: The NCAA governs message boards the same way they do personal, real-time contact. Use of these message boards for direct involvement in the recruiting process is strictly prohibited.
Rule: Post Signatures — No pornography or other vulgarities, and no product or company advertising.

These basis rules were written to govern how we interact with each other. I'm confident of two things: 1) The owners of Blue and Gold will never turn their boards over to somebody outside the company. I found the new moderators very helpful when some came here flaming from another message board and some unnecessary profanity. 2) I doubt many would like me as moderator after a few weeks. I have actually printed these rules out and keep them beside my computer. It is why I've changed my posting habits on things I've read on other places. There are three big NO's IMHO: no personal attacks; no vulgarity or risque pictures, and no flaming.

What about obsessive attacks on the coach ? According to purse it's " open season on Kelly "

Is that acceptable ?

Please have a contrarian opinion or even a negative one. Just back it up with something of substance or truth.
