I was asked by Irish44 what I thought ND,s plan on defense was going to be.

1. I thought ND would play 40/Over Under and Bear Fronts. And they did.
2. I thought ND would play both safeties close enough to get involved with the run on 1st and 2nd down. And they did.
3. I said with both safeties down, the corners would get no help and with Russell out that was a problem. And it was.
4. I said ND would try and make Hogan beat them and not McCaffery. And they did
5. I thiught the game would come down to 3rd down defense and explosion plays. And if ND could play close to their 28% Third Down Defense and keep Stanford to 3 explosions or less the could hold Stanford to 27 or less. They did not grade well in those areas and gave up 38.

Speaking as a coach losing a,game like that whether it's Pop Warner, Jr High, HS, College or Pro. You feel AWFUL for the players who played with maximum effort.

The worst part is having to listen to dishonest vulgar criticisms from crayon eating buffoons whom you know have never played or coached a snap of football in their lives. Whether it's know it all parents, boosters, media or some wannabe Internet coach/big man hiding anonymously behind keyboard.

The vile that is spewed from certain posters on this board cgvr, smelly karen, turnover machine is disgusting. As a grown man I could care less what some gutless coward with ZERO football knowledge has to say.But to say that garbage about players and coaches who spill their guts on a daily basis is really pathetic.

My question is if any of our resident agitation experts were to be standing face to face with Brian Van Gorder, Isaac Rochelle, Cole Luke or Brian Kelly. Would they still be big men and tough guys ? Or would they slink away and go back under the rock they crawled out from and continue posting anonymous garbage?

I think we all know the answer. The three chodes that I mentioned are now on permanent ignore and I would encourage the many, many quality posters to do the same. Congrats to ND on a fantastic season BTW!!!!!

I'd be happy to stand face to face with any of the coaches and especially you. Let me know where and when tough guy.

If a coach who gets paid the top 1% of all US earners can't deliver a high quality result then he not only deserves criticism but maybe even his walking papers as well. It's called working in the private sector where achieving given goals and objectives matter or they'll find someone else who will. Everyday I live this reality for way less than what Van Gorder and Kelly make. Nor do I have a big office, nor do I get a large part of the year off to play golf with alumni, nor do I have a private plane to go recruit with.

Now all the ND hating talking heads are snickering with told you so smiles that ND will once again not be National Champs nor will they be in the conversation to go to a playoff because of this loss.

They got carved up last night on defense period! They have talent to compete and the players are good kids who give it their all but coaching matters!

You're not the only one whose played, and coached. Coaches are not above discussion. When something is wrong, it should be discussed. That's what a message board is for, and to me there is no question that our defensive coaches should be discussed. Something is obviously lacking in their teaching approach. We continually give up big chunk plays to every team we play, no matter the competition. Our players look list on defense a lot. It's a real problem when you vacant defend 25 seconds and 40 yards for a potential birth in the CFP

Exactly!

Coaches, certainly ND coaches should not be above criticism, but the ignorant vile hurled here by many is beneath contempt and the reality is that the vast majority of those hurling the insults have no idea of what they are talking about and/or are simply posers who hate Notre Dame.

Of course anyone who disagrees with your posts has to be ignorant and therefore also must know nothing about football.

kelly is a lying vulgar purple faced gnome. That's irrefutable and there is nothing vile about it.
If you think the likes of that marshmallow strike fear in me you are even dumber than I thought.

He dialed up a good game plan. Had stanford kicked a field goal to make it 38-29 the idiocy of his going for 2 again would have been exposed.....

He's an above average coach with superior talent. He lacks consistency and his biggest win in 6 years is the Music City Bowl.

PS Our red zone package sucks. Lastly, the final seconds were a coaching catastrophe....bye bye playoff hopes. The team, ND alum and fans deserved better....

Football1irish grow up and stop being a,drama queen. There is a big difference between a discussion about coaching and calling someone an "idiot" "loser" "choker" "moron" "purple faced gnome" or whatever vile crap that gets spewed around here.

You constantly call BK a liar. What does he lie about? I've asked you before, and you won't give me a straight answer. Perhaps, YOU are the liar......

For what it's worth, I'm very thankful that BK is at ND. He's a great great college coach. He'll have us in the hunt every year. Can't wait for the bowl game.

Someone puts "coach" in their name and it makes them an expert. I'd have no problem telling BK that he made mistakes. I'd have no problem telling BVG his defense has been bad for 2 years and won't work in CFB. You trying to argue that BK has been perfect is ridiculous.

I would hope that you not hyper-extend your rotator cuff or otherwise experience injurious ramifications while patting yourself on the back.

If someone puts coach in their name it's means they are trained to a coach. Brian Kelly after Frank Beamer retires will be the winningest active coach is D1A. I would say that makes him an expert. Not perfect because nobody is, but an expert.

What are your qualifications? I think Brian Kelly,s speak for themselves.

Apparently. you don't know how to google brian kelly liar...you can start at cinci and work your way to the BCS NC Saturday pre game presser.

As for vulgarity nothing written here compares to kelly's regular disgusting displays of his vile and vulgar mouth... In fact this behavior below would have him tossed off the board if he wrote it.... He's toned it down significantly since temple and I believe he was warned. Right now no one is saying anything....

I never asked for a pat on the back. I was asked a question and ended up giving up a pretty accurate response. I make plenty of mistakes. Why were you offended and felt the need to make a sarcastic and snarky remark?

Actually last night they said he was currently number 3 on the list. I don't know who the other one ahead of him is but I do think he will be number 2 now.

He was actually number 3 on the list coming into 2015. Behind Spurrier and Beamer. Assuming Spurrier does not come back. Brian Kelly will be top dog in 2016.

Agree diehard. Critisism toward certain coaches happens. The players follow the coaches schemes and diagrammed plays. At times, they are misplayed. That happens, However,it is up to coaches to adjust to competition during game. BVG just doesn't excell at this. Sometimes Tenuda [who did great job at GT] didn't either. One can brag all he wants about being a pop warner coach but that doesn't make you an expert either. Managers in baseball and coaches in NBA aren't given a free pass and neither should CFB coaches. Too many big plays and playing down to competition happened by Defense this year. I am proud of the players and what they've dealt with. Kelly is a good coach but he needs a top dc. Sorry if that offends you.

OP, what's your point? Are you auditioning for the DC job? You were the first negative person in this thread. Carry on.

No, unlike many posters I know what I don't know. I know more than most posters here. But I'm not qualified to be a DC at ND or any D1A school

I said,ND did not grade well on 3rd Down defense and explosion plays. Those are facts not criticism. Calling Brian Kelly a "loser" or Kizer a "piece of sh** turnover machine" or "BVG sucks" or Rochelle "a fat loser who should walk home". Is not criticism either and is the kind of garbage that needs to be eliminated and those posters need to be banned.

Notre Dames failure in the Red Zone is what cost them the game.

As the season went on Stanford was getting better and I do not believe many defenses could of stopped them.

It was a GREAT game, and the future is bright

Hum you sound like another floridairish coach who use to post here

No one thing causes a football game to be won or lost. I was asked a question about the defense. ND having to kick 3 FG'S is not ideal. But they partially off set that by hitting two long plays and returning a kick off. 36 points and a 1 point lead with 30 seconds is a good place to be

What did he lie about? Be specific. I'm not gonna "google it". You called him a liar, you need to be accountable for what you constantly say.

"Google it". Pathetic response from a pathetic man.

You are the second guy to say that. I don't know who that is and the FL does not stand for Florida, although I wish I lived there.

Tough loss and I can understand both sides of the ideas expressed on this tread. For all the " Coaches ”
I certainly value you knowledge of The X' and O's., and usually enjoy reading your posts. I and , I would imagine,
That most of us fans have played, coached, watched, and studied football at different levels ?
As fans we have watched enough football to have informed opinions as to how well a coach coaches,
How well he plans for games, and how well his team performs.
It is also the fans, who pay the admission , watch the games on TV, Buy the team's. Products,
And in effect pay a coaches salary.
Just because one has the word " Coach " before his name does not make his opinion more valuable
Than a fans. There are great coaches, good coaches, bad coaches, and terrible coaches !
I don't like calling names, but I think that on a football board , everyone has a right to praise or
Criticize a coach or a team.
As George Bernard Shaw once said on an opening night to a critic of one of his plays, " I agree with you,
But those people sitting there do not !" ( Not exactly a word for word quote, but in Essenes that is what Shaw said ) So while the " Experts " may know more than the fans, the fans have the ultimate say on the worthiness of the
Performance.

I hope you're not that floridairish guy that used to post here.

I'm not trying to be a jerk here. I'm just talking, but yeah, ND wasn't going to do anything different than what they have been doing all year.

I asked you yesterday because I was curious how you thought the game would go. I don't know.

IrishMike due to the ignore feature I can't see the other end of your conversation. But I know the "child" you're engaging. You are correct about "pathetic" but you are wrong about him being a man.
