As a college QB Kizer is better and cooler than Joe Montana.

Not talking about pro. You guys need to quit arguing about the coaches and set your collective eyes on the REAL leader of the Irish !! The starting quarterback !! Deshone Kizer!!

Kizer is a flat out stud and future Champion. Kizer brought us back against Virginia !!. Kizer brought us back against USC!! Kizer brought us back against Navy (Navy had the lead early) Kizer brought us back against Temple!! Kizer led us back against Clemson down 21 to 3 in a hurricane he would have won it if it weren't for all the fumbles and dropped balls.

Kizer ran like a deer for a 79 yard run. Joe didn't have the wheels to do that. Maybe Tony Rice but Tony could not throw like Kizer.

Kizer smiles and has fun during games--kind of like Jeff Smardjza. He loves competition and is a GREAT LEADER !!

We will not lose the rest of the way because of Kizer !!

Kizer has ice water in his veins and is all about winning. He and the rest of the ND players have no time for a bunch of whining, Debbie downers, Or for anyone that says ND can not make the playoff !!.

The Irish WILL win the National Championship and Kizer WILL hold up the trophy !!

I'm not sure the team sees Kizer as the REAL leader yet. I'm certain they love and respect the way he plays, but it is tough to be the true leader when you were the 3rd string RS Freshman 4 months ago.

Just stop! And Wimbush is better than both next year, this boards threads are getting crazy. Why do we need to compare?

MT, while there a lot of biased speculation on Kizer's future as a QB, the offense sees him as their leader. The defense sees him that way as well and that is why you hear about Jaylon coming off the field and talking to Kizer saying (paraphrase) "we didn't get the stop we needed and now you have to go out and get the score." Kizer's maturity is much higher than his sophomore status would indicate.

Scuba, you know I respect you as a poster on here. But, you do realize you just said to 'stop' and then didn't follow your own command to 'stop' by stating BW was better than both. Then you go on to ask why do we need to compare when you just made a comparison using a player that has only played about a quarter of football in a blowout game.

While Montana had a flair for dramatic comebacks, he was a much better QB in the NFL than he was at ND.

I'm not one to do comparisons to players of different eras with different schemes, etc.. but Kizer is special.

The VA game was the beginning......then his play carried over to the next week, and week after that. They way he brought them back against Clemson was great.
The kid is maturing right before us and its fun to watch.
Some people just have that "it" factor and he does.
Now he is perfecting the zone read which is making the offense even more dangerous.
Teams will start respecting his running which will help procise.
A couple times he faked out the entire temple defense, camera man, Chris Fowler...

He is the QB going forward and deservedly so.

Oh...btw.....he actually has real legit QB height. Not fudged program numbers. His height is legit. !

I agree that he's got his hands on the steering wheel, is doing a great job, and the team trusts him, but your example makes my point. From what you described, Jaylon is the one leading and showing the team that he trusts Kizer to get the job done.

The debate could go on and on but it doesn't have to. Kizer does not have a 'C' on his jersey so I see what you are getting at. I am going by what the players are saying about him and Alize was quoted this week saying that when the offense looks at Kizer and sees the belief in his eyes then they all believe. Maybe next year Kizer will see a 'C' on his jersey.

Spring Practice will get interesting -- ND better hold on to two of the three kids or hope like hell the kid we just recruited is legit

I would have liked to see Kizer play Lisch or Joe in hoops at the Rock. Rusty was a monster and Montana could do anything he wanted. I'm guessing Lisch and Montana would have been just fine in this O.
( We also had Gary Forystek, Tim Koegel and perhaps the greatest ND QB to never play a down Mike Falash....one of the 3 Idaho potato heads-Dickie/Ernie Hughes)

Of the big 3 weapons on this team Fuller, Kizer & Prosise ( no order intended) 2 of the 3 were happenstance and not planned.

That's scary to me as we saw the same thing with Zaire.

We need to blow out teams to get visibility of bench talent in live game situations.

There's a big difference between practice speed and game speed.....

Agreed comebacks were pure theater -- I was at the texas game in 1978 -- Joe was just OK that day . I believe ND got shut out earlier that year 3-0 by Mississippi or Missouri .

It would be hard to imagine ND not scoring in a football game with any of the three kids on the team now .

His stats in the national championship Cotton Bowl were mediocre. The following year in the Cotton Bowl we were getting killed by Houston partly because of how poorly Joe played, then he staged one of the most memorable comebacks in ND football history. His ND career was very interesting and memorable, but there was a reason why he was a third round draft pick.

Joe Montana is a classic case of an athlete that just continued to improve well into his pro career. Some athletes peak out in high school. That's what makes recruiting/drafting and evaluation so difficult. Montana was fortunate to fall under Walsh's tutelage for football and work ethic.

Look what happened to Ken O'Brien...man was he pummeled. Lord knows what kind of career he would have had if the Jets took Marino. Sometimes the luck of the draw plays a huge role and Montana was the perfect match for Walsh's west coast O....

PS keep your eyes on JT Daniels FR QB Mater Dei CA. He's on a rocket ride....

What happens if Forystek doesn't get knocked out of that Purdue game? Devine was forced to go to Montana who was considered a less than enthusiastic practice QB by the coaches but a total "gamer". As for Falash, I do remember seeing him dancing wildly at the Library (the bar, not the building with the books) to a country band's cover of David Bowie's Rebel Rebel.....

My statement on Wimbush was meant to illustrate how next year the fans will be stating that someone else is better than someone else, just like Zaire was suppose to be the best ND QB since ...... This year, now it's Kaizer etc....

Haha...yeah, they say the fan-favorite QB is always the one on the bench. I am not saying Kizer is greater than ND greats but the kid has a talent ND has not had in some time (under BK for sure). His measurables will have NFL scouts swarming and if he continues to progress in the system the way he has then he'll be right up there with the greats. His six starts are a small sample but his ceiling is looking higher and higher every game.

Bingo. Who knows? I doubt it could have worked out better. I was at that Purdue game. Great road trip....

Falash with his Punkin' Puss hat was classic. Man I wish he and Dickie Hughes had gotten a chance to play. Dickie was an animal LB. He'd show me pictures of him, Ernie and others hunting... Those guys were badass with serious weapons knowledge too.
