That was one of the worst fixes I've ever seen. ND absolutely should have been NC over FSU that year. Not to go too deep, but that shows you how corrupt human nature can be.
They simply wanted Bowden to have a NC, a good old boy thing. Bring up the range of BS sophistry, that losing to ND is better than losing to Boston College. Complete farce.
Anyway, I'm ok with ND being ranked above or below Louisville. Enough gray area. And both teams have only themselves to blame for their rankings right now.

I disagree. Once you've played over half the season, you have to start using resume more. And the voters are giving us credit for having a much tougher SOS than Louisville to this point. We've played 4 ranked teams and they've only played one. And they lost to a 2-4 team.
I think that had more to do with timing. If we'd dropped a game early in the season, I think we still pass FSU after beating them. But losing the week after caused the pollsters to drop us below them. Back in those days, if a team had one loss, the timing of the loss used to matter more than it seems to now.
Nope. FSU faced a tougher overall SOS and defeated a higher ranked team (Nebraska) in their bowl game. The final vote wasn't close.
The final vote wasn't close due to media bias. End of the day, Notre Dame beat Florida St., and when two teams have the same record, that result, in and of itself, outweighs everything.
They didn't have the same record. After ND's regular season was done, FSU defeated #7 Florida. And FSU played tougher teams overall. Go read the re-cap of the '93 season: wiki
You are arguing that Louisville should be higher ranked than ND.

I don't need to "re-read..." anything. I watched the FSU-Notre Dame game.
Bobby Bowden was a media favorite. That's why FSU was given the title, even after getting beat by Notre Dame late in the season. Notre Dame deserved to be ranked higher than FSU.
And yes, if I had a vote today, I would rank Louisville higher than Notre Dame. Same amount of losses, and Louisville beat Notre Dame.
If the idea that FSU was gifted a NC because people liked BB, that would have come from the coaches' poll. The AP doesn't tend to be terribly sentimental. ND at #4 defeated #7 A&M in their bowl. #1 FSU defeated #2 Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. What did you expect the voters to do following those bowl results?

if you were around, contemporaneously, in 93, the sentiment for Bobby Bowden to win a NC was palpable.
in addition, we dominated FSU for the entire game, only a deflected pass that went through the hands of an ND defender into the FSU receiver for a TD made the game closer.
We dominated FSU, but ND got hosed, by the media and coaches who all wanted BB to win a NC
Look at Miami and ND with identical records and ND with a better SOS, but Miami beat ND head to head and deserved the NC
But if Utah wins, do you come back and say that Vegas is flawed?

Did you actually watch the game of the century? Or much of college football that year? Did you listen to the pundits, many who tongue in cheek spoke of giving it to Bobby. I did and am familiar with the stats. I was in my mid 20s.
ND whipped FSU, basically letting off the gas to make it closer than it appeared. There was no ambiguity whatsoever which team was better head to head. And ND, as always, had a tough enough schedule.
Finally, I recall 1989 Miami was given it over ND EXACTLY because the Hurricanes won head to head...in spite of ND beating #1 Colorado in their bowl game. Please, college football is as corrupt as can be...and they pulled a fast one on ND in 1993. Period.

I think odds are at least even that the polls will put ND in a position to play LSU in a bowl game (ratings). Hopefully, we don't trade down to do so...since LSU is likely losing at least one more game this year.
Disagree. The polls aren't intended to be a reflection of who would be favored in a matchup. Utah has a better resume than USC right now. They've beaten Florida and UCLA. USC's best win is Arizona.
If Notre Dame wins out I can really see us getting as high as 6 or 7 especially if USC can beat Washington and Oregon.
ND I'm sure was awarded the Title by some news organization. They should just pull a Bama and Claim it. It's funny how ESPn and the whole propaganda brigade will claim all those titles for Bama but not ND.
Then you don’t understand the polls and you don’t understand Vegas
The polls are supposed to rank the teams and determine which are the four (4) best teams for the purpose of qualifying for the CFP.
The pollsters are eminently unqualified to perform that task.
Vegas is the only eminently qualified entity to perform that task and they have no inherent biases !
Resumes and their evaluation are often subjective.
Vegas tells you who the better teams are.
So, do you want the four (4) best teams playing for the CFP or some pretenders picked by rank amateurs ?
I want the cfp committee picking the teams. I think they got it right every year pretty much
