Another preseason poll .... ND top 10

I hardly post here but we had a great year last year. We lost to the number 2,3,4 ranked teams in the country per the final polls. Two of the losses were on the road by two points on the final plays and then a 14 point loss in a bowl. That to me is a good start to the next season, Coach Kelly is doing a good job, we are competing with and beating top teams in the country and developing top NFL talent. I get so sick of the negative post on here, just like last year when MZ went down and then look what happened, just relax and trust...

GOD COUNTRY NOTRE DAME

End23 posts nothing but anti-Kelly posts.
I always ask him for a better option & he disappears.

it is year 7 so we all have a pretty good idea of the strengths/weaknesses.

being in the top 10-15 given the self imposed obstacles is an accomplishment.

Only a couple DLmen away from the top group.

Technically you are competing with BUT NOT BEATING top teams

Shlaybock is an idiot, but I do agree with ND being in the top ten. He gets it right once in a while.

We're fortunate to have qb depth. Our kicking game should be solid. D is a wildcard. There's a lot riding on kelly's starting qb selection. I hope he doesn't platoon them. The Texas game will tell us a lot..... Imo we're in contention until we're not.....

ACC has 2 of the top 5 and 5 of the top 25 plus ND. Every year the ACC keeps getting stronger in football. Meanwhile, the ACC continues it's legacy in basketball, baseball and many of it's other sports including non-varsity intramural sports.

Notre Dame is not in the football ACC and neither FSU or Clemson will finish the season in the top ten.

ACC is currently topped by Clemson and FSU. Expect that 2016 will be more of the same as 2015.
Clemson might be even better. If FSU finds a QB, they too will be better.

Well we've beaten Top10 Michigan State teams.......how's that worked out for Michigan?
About the same as you. Neither team was in the playoffs - but, hey you beat a common opponent.
You get a gold star.

Get back to us when you can beat either MSU or OSU?
Michigan is 1-7 against MSU in the last 8.
Michigan is 1-11 against OSU in the last 12.
That's a combined 2-18 or .10 winning % against your mortal enemies!
Wow.

Lol, ND is incapable of competing in the Big Ten, hence the ACC alignment.

So losing to a major rival and beating that rival is "about the same" to Mochigan fans??

That explains why all your rivals have kicked the ever living sh*t out of you...

Michigan prefers to just beat ND directly - 38-0, 38-0, 47-21; 4 out of the last 6; 24-17-1

Some very arbitrary scores and timelines there...

Who has scoreboard?
How close was that game?
Was either team publicly emasculated in front of the entire country?

Lol

I love the 24-17-1 number. Do you know where it even comes from?
Michigan had a football program a decade before ND. Michigan played ND students for 7 years, sometimes multiple times a year, sometimes only for a half. Michigan won those 9 games. In fact, they played twice on the same day in 1888, & in 1887 they played only one half, then Michigan stopped the game only up a TD (but still counts it as a win).

So Michigan counts games in which they played only a half, played double-header short games, & games against students learning how to play, for nine total wins in 7 years.

In modern, real football, ND actually leads 16-14-1.
You should read Natutal Enemies about the history of ND/UM football. Michigan's former ADs & coaches are part of the historians they quote.
I didn't even mention UMs refusal to play ND under Rockne, Leahy & Parseghian.

^ that is a great and informative response. Well done!

Thanks. I have a lot more facts from the books I've read that have to deal with UMs refusals to play ND, their protest of NDs offense, which is the modern day man in motion, & Michigan twice forcing other Big10 schools to vote against ND joining the conference, even when it meant ND closing in WW2 (if not for Navy stepping in). Real shady stuff. And Michigan doesn't deny any of it.

Ah yes, trying to discount games to help your record. College football is all about history and tradition. Sorry, but every football game counts. 24-17-1.

Who cares? ND would never go undefeated in the big ten, let alone win the big ten.

NDs SOS is consistently much tougher than most big10 schools. Way tougher than UM. Remember that 13-1 Rose Bowl winning, undefeated Big10 record, OSU beating in title game MSU team three years ago? Who was their only lost? ND

When was the last time UM won the Big10? Never even won the east. Lol.

You mean that year ND lost to Michigan...wow, you walked into that one.

Like I said, Michigan beats ND directly so your smack talk is pathetic. Continue to rely on other teams to beat Michigan, lol.

As for SOS, again, it is irrelevant. ND would never go through a big ten schedule unscathed. Simple as that.

Then why doesn't Michigan count the losses in those years to Great Lakes? Every other team, including ND, counts losses to Great Lakes.
Michigan says they were exhibitions, except for the two years Michigan won & counted them towards national titles in the 1900's. lol
Or when Michigan played partial games against Ivy League schools in the 1880's & lost, but don't count them because they weren't completed? So the opposite of the ND games then.

I'll wait for your answer? Even though you probably have no idea what I'm talking about?

Like last time? 37-0
I just realized you are either a teenager or maybe a student at UM, aren't you?
I don't "smack talk" I just put down facts.
And don't use words like "pathetic" towards me.

You don't put down facts, actually. 37-0? Trying to discount factual victories. Talking smack about beating MSU in a year you lost to Michigan. How old are you?

Seriously, I do not want this to get ugly. I simply am stating my position about ND in the Big Ten.

Your position isn't factial, it's hypothetical. See the difference? The historical data I provided is all things that actually happened. (Except I guess the final score was 31-0 because the UM QB dropped like brick).
I'm 38 actually. Read a lot of ND, college football books on deployments. So I love reading about history of the sport. See the AF next to the ND in my name? I got my degree from Air Force & spent 6 years ('99-'05) in a special tactics squadron (STS) who specialized in combat search and rescue. I read probably 30 books on ND & college football while deployed, reminded me of back home (Notre Dame). I was on a team of operators that included UM fans, Bama, FSU etc, so we hashed it out all the time. No big deal to me.

So im just saying I'm not mad. It's just football to me. Nothing you or anyone says will bother me. I just asked your age because you remind me of me back when I was 15-20, when I used to get really mad over ND football.
I'm not trying to boast or belittle anyone, just giving a background for my thought process.
I will always enjoy discussions (debates) about football. But I separate real life. ND football is just my vice.
No ill will towards you at all.

I did not claim that my position regarding ND in the big ten was a fact. I specifically mentioned that it was my position. Not your position or anyone else's. Thank you for your service. Much Appreciated. I enjoy the back and forth.

Thanks, much appreciated.

But I STRONGLY disagree with the statement ND couldn't compete in the Big10. Purdue & Indiana can't compete, not ND.

If ND was in the Big10 they would be in the west. Iowa won the west last year, & lost on a last minute TD to MSU (who won at UM & at OSU) in the title game by 3. Let's replace Iowa with ND & look at their schedule. So if ND was in the west, here is their schedule:

Illinois St
Iowa St
Pitt
North Texas
Wisconsin
Illinois
Northwestern
Maryland
Indiana
Minnesota
Purdue
Nebraska

So you are honestly telling me ND couldn't compete with that schedule?

If ND was in the Big10 they would be in the Big10 title game every year.
