Angeli huge drive

Yes, in the big picture, it was the spark we needed, but I didn't feel that way at the time. Pretty much up to that point, PSU was whipping us physically on both sides of the line and were showing a lot more creativity on both sides of the ball. I figured we might be able to tie the game to start the second half, but I really thought the team looked like it was running on vapors and was going to simply run out of gas in the fourth quarter.

Angeli’s drive for 3 pts before halftime was so crucial. Go Irish
I have been one of those who has probably under estimated Steve Angeli. What he did last night in coming off the bench cold and leading us to a huge FG just before half was incredibly impressive, and obviously ended up being the difference in the final score. Great job by Angeli.

Thought it was classic Angeli. The guy is just a damn good accurate passer. But, let’s not ignore the hit and fumble. We were extremely lucky that we recovered. He was blindsided for sure, but he still is vulnerable to sacks and fumbles with his pocket presence. Hate to throw cold water on an otherwise outstanding performance.

He still has no internal clock. It was the same thing last year..

Leonard frankly has covered up a lot of the OL pass blocking failures with his legs and being dangerous as regards running.
Which QB starts next year will need a better pass blocking O line

When you consider the fact that only ONE starting o lineman has started every game this season I believe the line has been pretty damn good. It's not like it was a veteran group to start either.

Absolutely massive. Huge props to Angeli.

I also feel like this showed we could throw the ball on Penn State. I worry Denbrock relies a little too heavily on the run and early on we would only pass on obvious passing situations. Hopefully next game we come out a bit more balanced with play calling.

You know what opens up the run? The back 7 on their heals worried about a deep shot.

Seriously? Every QB would have fumbled that. Unblocked blindside hit; totally not on the QB

That’s a fair assessment. But, my comment has more to do with his pocket presence and his awareness of the pocket around him. The Ewar’s blindside hit and game turning fumble last night is an example. After the game he said he could “feel” Sanders coming but thought he could get the pass off in time, etc…. I don’t know if it’s an internal clock or some added peripheral vision or a sixth sense, but we often read QBs saying they can feel or sense pressure from the blindside. Angeli doesn’t seem to possess this. Just imo.

Sorry, but I don't see that at all. If Texas had Angeli at QB last night they would have won. Steve is a pocket passer, but he can run some; as in the Sun Bowl. Ewers seemed slow to react and had no ability to run at all, with the exception of 1 play in the 3rd QTR. I believe it's an unfair narrative on Angeli. IMHO

We also in turn shouldn't ignore Leonard's two INT's, that were more consequential and actually jeopardized the game vs an almost fumble lost. fumbles happen. Ewers fumbled last night and sealed UT's fate, Manning almost fumbled but he was ruled down.

We shouldn't ignore that RL is 14 and 1, has won 2 major bowl games and 3 playoff games in a season. Also has 35 touchdowns and the most rushing tds in ND history for a QB. Let's not ignore any of it

I agree with you. Someone made a comment and asked if Angeli should go in if Leonard struggles vs OSU, and I said no, because you have to go with what got you to this point.

This is the first year of the 12 team playoff as well.

No one else in Notre Dame history has had a chance to play in a 12 game playoff and play 15 games.

Don't ignore that as well.

Okay. We haven't won a major bowl game in over 30 years so he's done something that no other ND QB has in over 30 years.

That is not debatable

Allow Ian Book to play in a 12 game playoff in 2018 or 2020, instead of opening up with the eventual national champion in the 4 team semi final, and he wins a playoff game.

Book never had a chance like the 2024 team did.

He had a chance in every year to win a Playoff game. And he had a chance in 2019 to win a major bowl game.

Unfortunately he along with every other ND QB in 30 years, did neither.

RL won 3 this year

Ian Book wasn't allowed to play in a 12 game playoff.

Yeah. The 4 game playoff that RL just won 1 of those. Book couldn't

Book could have won a Playoff game in 18 and 20. He didn't. He also could have won a major bowl game in 19 and he didn't make one.

We agree.

To be fair, Brian Kelly was coaching those teams. Can't compare the two. Brian Kelly couldn't win a big game even if he had Connor Stalions stealing signs for him.

That put sjb in a bind then. Who does his loyalty lie with, Kelly or Book
