A DT for Oklahoma State has decided to opt out of the rest of the season.

This will become more prevalent.

Since players can now be paid and since they can transfer on a whim, the scholarship should be transformed into a performance contract.

Team stability is a thing of the past !

He's not even going to get drafted. Think this has more to do with his injury and lack of playing time

I agree with you. At this point pro sports athletes have more restrictions than college football athletes. They need to just go the way of paying players and include contracts. 1, 2, 3, or 4 year contracts, transfers will be the equivalent of free agency.

Said it before and say it now...

The NFL needs to get involved because this chaos will ultimately hurt the shield.

Mark my words. Next CBA may end in no season.
They will bring up HS kids getting 10 million dollars before taking a D1 snap and most of them won't even play on Sunday while the NFL league minimum is 9.2 million less.

The NFL has enjoyed a free farm system called the NCAA forever.

Every NFL team has a farm club and they can draft a HS QB and develop him their way if they so choose. Kid gets a contract.

College football can go back to what it should be. A true student athlete amateur sport.

It's a win win win for all parties.

P. s.

College players will still get drafted.

not sure that you can have a farm system like MLB has with football, The expenses are so great in comparison.

Infrastructure for one. Medical costs another.

Lots of moving parts. And the federal government will get involved; which means bureaucracy and congress and all that.

How much interest will minor league professional football engender with the masses; virtually none.

So the internet and whoever will not cough up any money for it. It will ALL have to come from the current pie and it will be sliced many times more than now.

Bottom line is that NFL teams and players are going to be making less as the money is diverted to the farm system in whatever form it takes.

Once you remove the colleges from the equation, everything changes.

How do you come up with this stuff?
Because he was injured number 1. Number 2, he didn't play in 2 games this year. Number 3, he's unlikely to get drafted. He's not very good

So what the hell are you talking about? You have no clue about this situation do you?

Its called reading up on a subject. Try it sometime

Sometimes I wonder.... are we going to get to a point where coaches have to negotiate with the players about which games they are willing to play in? For instance, can you "rest" against Marshall and Cal, but play against UNC and Stanford?

It's not rocket science...
1 example...
An NFL team visiting the hosting team brings It's farm team. They can play a shortened game afterward or the next day.

At present you have a 53 man active roster with many who never see real game action.
In 2022 the taxi squad is 16 players.

That's 69 players with approximately half not having any real game action since the preseason series of games.

The farm system is really a great way to develop players in your system and getting game type action for players "in waiting"
Players not quite ready for the big club but will someday without a doubt be a huge contributor.

Players get paid and many will get drafted from high school....

College will still get plenty of participation as the NFL teams won't and can't draft every single high school kid.

If a kid chooses the college route he's there a minimum of three years or rather must fulfill the scholarship by 75 percent.

You could give the college kids incentive to play out their schedules by something like any kid not participating with it's team will not be eligible for the first 2 or 3 rounds of the NFL draft.
Yes some could be legitimately injured but they'll still get drafted. Their eligibility...along with others wanting to just forego remaining games to avoid injury wanting the big pay day....starts in the 3rd or 4th rounds.

Any potential high pick will have plenty of incentive to finish out their college schedule and fullfill their scholarship of at least 75 percent.

Another exanple is no farm teams but give the NFL teams another 20 roster spots for the practice squad. A great way to develop corners, receivers and especially QB's in their system and their culture.

Expand the draft out to 17 rounds allowing HS players to be drafted.

People could come up with a do-all system that appeases everyone involved. Preserving college football as it should be and it allows NFL teams a chance to develop players their way much earlier. Players get paid...college goes back to being college...

Win win win for all involved

You could create a Spring 7 on 7 league with these guys! That would be interesting.

Lots of talk of no substance

And you are completely ignoring all the resistance there would be to this.
And once again a lot more money then you appear to consider
This will cost each club tens of millions of dollars they do not have to spend right now.

So he keeps the benefit but ends the bargain? The player was in an athletic scholarship but is skipping half of the semester's athletics.

Huh?
You done bumped your head.

Football....particular the NFL...is a billion(s) dollar business.

They'd make everything put into a farm system back plus plus plus.

If it's football and you sell it...someone(s) are ready yo advertise with it.

This isn't the 1950's/60's where players need a job during the off season.

The NFL is a cash cow and a farm system....shit....
Netflix or Amazon prime would jump all over that. An extra 4.99 stream all farm team games.

There might be hurdles for a farm system in the NFL but $$$ is MOST definitely not one of them.

Lastly ....

If they don't jump on doing something with the college mess it will ultimately cost them a lot of money. It's coming but the next CBA you can bet your ass it will be brought up that the league minimum for a legit professional player is 9.2 million less, per player, than some HS kids are getting with most never seeeing a Sunday snap.

The NFL has no interest in becoming involved in college athletics.
