An idea from the aerial view of the football field at Fenway Park.

There are 9 diagonal lines in each end zone adding up to 18. The lines are at a 42 degree angle pointing to the dome. Hence 18 lines and 42 degrees making up the year 1842, the year Notre Dame was founded.

Maybe you could explain to the average ND fan what the 9 diagonal lines in each end zone bulls@#% means to the folks watching on TV.

Its okay to dress the program up like a trashy chick at a WWE Pay-Per-View Event for a neutral site game. But at home we need to show a little more self-respect.

EXACTLY!

There is a lot of symbolism at Notre Dame … and this is one of them. It should not change.
