An all time low for this program

This was an all time low? Throughout the history of ND football, this is the lowest?

Sorry Toby, I forgot about our resident contrarians.

I'd respectfully posit that having 2 years of wins stripped, 6 players arrested, getting crushed on the field, the lack of fundamentals in any area, poor sportsmanship, and a selfish, unprepared, manic head coach with poor character judgment, are all indicators of a football program in dire straits.

The 4 player sexual assault, a St. Mary's suicide and world war 2 were lower IMO, but I thought I'd focus on the football coach, the things he is arguably in charge of, and the condition of the actual team.

he is more than a contrarian; he is vvvvery close to BK. at least his bias and loyalty has a rooted basis.

but as for ND fans - wtf?

I agree things are pretty down for the program and the university has taken some hits, but I'm not convinced it's the worst of the worst. The university and program can rebound. Replacing the HC is way too simplistic. It's probably deeper than that. Why are players cheating? Why are there students willing to risk the program to help them cheat? The weed smoking is sort of understandable in today's society but how do you combat that activity when all of Hollywood and the music industry make it cool? Young people take notice. Interaction between male and female students is always a concern, especially when booze is involved. A gun with no permit to carry should never be tolerated. I mean, how many times does a player have to be told that? The administration has their work cut out for themselves. IMHO, it's beyond hiring a new HC.

Vive la difference.

A recovery plan shouldn't end with a change in HC, but it should start there.

I have nothing vested in BK or his staff but there has to be a solid plan to replace. It absolutely cannot be a lateral hire and having a "name" is no guarantee either. The candidate has to 100% understand what ND is all about and be willing to work within it's rules. A couplle of names sound interesting to me from a distance.

The greatest trick Brian Kelly ever pulled was to convince us he couldn't be replaced.....

What names?

The lowest point in ND Football History happen on March 31, 1931 when a plane crash took the life of our beloved Coach Knute Rockne, way to early at age of 43 years and 7 days. Nothing on the field can ever surpass that dark day---the darkest day. The sun will rise tomorrow and life will go on. Take a deep breathe and move away from the keyboard and relax. It appears like we're in for another year of heartache unless Uncle Jack does a u-turn in his thinking.

His death was a tragedy, but far beyond the reach of mortal men.

This mess today? Man made.

Ara my friend, there is a piece of the plane that is behind glass in the Joyce trophy room. I have visited Knute's and Bonnie's grave several times over the years. Somber to say the least. What would Knute say about this current state of events? How would he go about rectifying the problems? What would he say about the fans on social media? Whatever happens, none of it is under our control. That I do know for sure.

When is the last time ND had 2 seasons of wins vacated?

We had a bad year, we stunk up the joint. No positives from this season except its over and we can think about next year. Go Irish!

You are preaching to the choir. We all know this. We are all upset. There is nothing any of us can do about it other than vent on message boards and chat rooms. All my sons were texting me expletives the whole darn game today. I don't trust BK with next yerar's returning talent truth be told. I don't have a say it it though.

He'd go Spartan to the max and get qualified folks on board.

When you factor in that they were a preseason top 10 team, with talk of making the playoffs, then I definitely agree that this is an all time low. It's one thing to not have any talent and suck. It's another when you team has more talent than ten teams on your schedule. Yet, you lose to teams with losing records. This years version of ND football is an epic failure. This is easily the worst year in my lifetime. There have been some tough years but this one tops the list and it's not even close. It's irrelevant that most of the losses were close. Why? Well for starters they should have been wins so losing is completely unacceptable. Kelly is horrible and overrated as a coach and the face of Notre Dame football. I never saw Parseghian, Devine, Faust,Holtz, Davie, Willingham or Weis act the way Kelly does. His arrogance is says it all. This is not the Notre Dame I grew up with. Kelly is the symptom of a bigger problem. Retaining him tells me that winning football no longer matters but money does.

This aint worse than the end of Faust's time

How many of his players were arrested? Expelled? Banished? How many wins did he forfeit for academic malfeasance? He may have lost more but he did not tank the programs integrity off the football field.

There is nothing good about Kelly, on or off the field.

a student was killed at a practice. There is so much baggage with this rat, I forgot he was involved in a decision that killed a grad student.

Yeah. I think this might be a low point.

And like that he was gone. Underground. Nobody has ever seen him since. He becomes a myth, a spook story that ND fans tell their kids at night.

(Fingers crossed.)

You do have a say, Toby. Coaches usually get fired after they lose their fan base. I was a Brian Kelly supporter from day one. But there has been a avalanche of bad losses, on and off the field, that made me withdraw my support for him. I want what's best for Notre Dames football team not Brian Kelly.
I respect the viewpoints of those who still support Kelly. I just don't agree with them, anymore.
