Can a guy who runs that stiff upright get taught the proper body lean - I would hate to see the kid get hurt.

there have been guys like that

most obvious are Calvin Hill and I think Eric Dickerson; JB ran upright to an extent.

you can be upright as long as you 'get low' before contact.

That will come with time and coaching.
One good pop will teach him to lower his pad level.

More important is recognizing holes/cuts, and holding onto the ball.

That is what was said about Atkinson.....he got blown up a few times in the hole.....never seemed to learn.

Hopefully Adams is a quick study.

Purse would be in the Heisman trophy talk if he was a running back at Notre Dame.

That is how great our Oline is--ever since the LSU game they have been imposing their will.

Did You guys notice that the Oline was pushing the running backs for three or four more yards after they would get stopped?

Inside the five yd vs USC and Clemson and then I am sold . I have been waiting for our OL to break out for years . I was at the Alabama game and it was humiliating to watch the Irish not pick up a yd on the ground . Crunch time vs our two toughest tests is what I am waiting to see .

re Adams I love the kid - no wasted movements totally efficient - sees the crease and then he's gone

We have not had a back like that since Ricky Waters

perse always speaks so well of you Bodi, I don't get it but then again I am a registered idiot.

I don't know how you couldn't be pleased with his performance. The kid showed why BK and staff continued to recruit him after the knee injury his junior year.

Great post continually !! That would be great if Josh Adams develops into another Ricky Waters !! I hope he can catch the ball like Ricky too !
I remember Holtz chewing out Waters and telling him to get tougher near the goal line ! Tough love works !!

Bodi- Adams has a gift -- I was baffled that a kid who put up such gaudy numbers ( 2100 yds 8.2 per carry as a SOPHMORE ) could be a 3 star recruit . My guess is if he stays injury free he will push Folston HARD for reps next season .

I know knee injury junior yr blah blah - this kid can flat out ball. Folston - Adams - Williams next yr gives me a woodie !! Adams caught 50 passes in H.S and avg 15 yds per catch -- kid's a player

Fuller - StBrown - Alize - Hunter- Robinson ....my boy Kelly has it goin on !!!!

What's crazy is that it's not at all out of the question that Prosise could be the starting RB next year, even with all that talent!!

Folston, Prosise, Adams, Williams

The issue is we need to win this year, and we're counting on an awful lot of youth and inexperience at RB. Hopefully they develop fast and play beyond their years...

Ryan Grant was a pretty successful Domer that ran in a more upright style. GAIII was not a RB, a number of us always said that. He was fast but he lacked any lateral agility, his hips were stiff, he moved very robotic and had no vision. Adams appears to have some of the attributes that GAIII lacked.

Nice to see you back IM. Long time no see.

I was really big on GAIII early on and I was hoping he would come back, He had mind blowing talent and speed. He had some electrifying TD runs with the Irish but you were right. He never could become a real first team running back. I had great hopes for him.
I hope Josh Adams is the real deal. I hope he becomes the player I was hoping GAIII would become.
You were right and I was wrong on GAIII. Damn it !!

thanks for the Ricky Waters clip - good stuff. forgot how great he was for ND. I had the chance to watch GAIII in high school. His coach never ran him inside. He scored all his TD's on sweeps or quick pitches to the outside - kick off returns etc. He never ran it inside and I could tell he did not have good hands when trying to catch balls. He actually did better at ND than I thought he would. He did have some glimpses of greatness with his speed, but when it came to catching the ball out of the backfield I dont think BK trusted him and rightfully so. As for the young Adams kid - in his short cameo the other night - he looked a lot like a young Ricky perhaps !

I LOVE the fact every time the kid took a hand off he covered the ball with two hands until he was out in space. If you go back and look at the Jet Sweep he scored on, he took the ball covered the football up with 4 points of pressure IMMEDIATELY. It's not the team that makes the most big plays that win football games. It's the team that makes the fewest mistakes. Who cares if he is a little upright.

I'll bet dollars to donuts he is on the field because he protects the football and is apparently very good in pass protection. He appears to be the Anti Greg Bryant.

BTW the guy who coached Adams in HS should be very proud of himself. That kid is one seriously coached up player, especially for a Freshman

Kelly is very high on Adams - Kelly is a fabulous talent evaluator so I am all in on Adams .

QQ is Procise a red shirt senior ( does he have two yrs left ?

Yes but you don't him running lower. You just want him running lower at impact. Outside of that he needs to use legs and go go go.

I'm assuming you are talking about when he got ear holed right after the hand off. What you should have noticed was this kid is a keeper. He didn't fumble on that play . It surprised him and it was a great hard hit. No fumble. He is going to do fine!!!!

Decker -

If youth @ RB costs us a game that will be the good news for all the douche bags to come out of the woodwork with their " no excuses " tough guy bull shit then they can get their rocks off bashing Kelly - definition of pathetic

35 was singing Adam's praises all last year and suggesting he would prove to be the steal of the class. Wish 35 was on here to say I told you so.

As for Procise, he ran hard and showed good acceleration, but he damn well better learn when to lay a hit on the tackler. Way too much dancing at the end of his runs trying to avoid getting tackled, resulting in being stood up and gang tackled.
