2025 recruiting wr

How do we even know if they're any good or not?
Faison is the best of the bunch but the others ...
who knows.

We aren't using a QB that can get them a ball down the field and see what they can do.
3 yard curl and sit routes continue and for god sake Jerome Bettis even today....could play WR running these routes.

Plus our WR coach sucks...

Moreover we MUST get a QB throwing the ball all around the field so it looks like some fun for any potential receivers.

Think about it...
Our best receiver is a Lacrosse player.
In other words amazing perimeter talent wants nothing to do with playing for us and nor should they.

This is bad in 137 different ways but the most glaring is above. Our best receiver is a Lacrosse player.
That says all about out WR recruiting, coaching, playing ,etc.

It sucks!
Our best receiver by far is beaux even when faison is healthy. He’s a high 4 star recruit out of HS and transfer to ND. It’s why it’s important to get talented players, it shows.

Faison is a good wr, need him to get healthy and hopefully he is now. He adds a quickness element no other wr on our team has

We have our own Mel Kiper here.

Faison is what we NEED to play at the top or have any aspirations of such.

Just being candid here but almost every cfb championship game is impacted drastically, broken wide open, sealed, all happened via explosive big plays.
The crossing route caught for 12-15 yards is taken the distance.

Don't get me wrong it's nice having both and would be even nicer if our starting QB could get them the ball accurately.
Accurate enough to hit the long crossing route in stride possibly allowing a big play...
Accurate enough to take advantage of Beaux' height and ball skills.

Let's agree those are the two best receivers on our team...??... OK?

THEN THIS SUBJECT GETS EVEN MORE PATHETIC CONSIDERING OUR TWO BEST RECEIVERS ARE A LACROSSE PLAYER AND A TRANSFER.

In other words one's first sport isn't even football and the other isn't even our recruited player.
If they were depth players but that's our 1A and 1B....at the WR spit?

WTH

I rarely talk negative, but it's just shocking that a 5'9 walk-on soph is the 2nd best WR on the roster.

Greathouse, Thomas, Kolze, KK.....step up.

I was a big Jayden Thomas fan at one point. He made some plays.

And to challenge your post: we've gotten guys as talented and heralded as Collins. They didn't work out at ND.

It's a long list:

Styles, Johnson, Colze, Flores. I'm sure I left guys out too.

As much as I like Faison and think he’s a good football player, I’m not sure that he’s better than Greathouse or even Thomas as an overall football player. The sample size is too small. He’s definitely an asset though and ND is lucky to have him.

Jayden Thomas still has this and next year to take his game to the next level and he was pretty banged up last year if I recall. I think he has some skills. He plucked a ball off the turf as he was moving away against South Carolina. Really nice catch. That was another nice catch against Purdue that could have easily fallen incomplete. He’s also a good blocker.

I think Greathouse also missed significant time last year. ND just needs to find a way to improve their passing game. The raw materials are there except the inexperience at the tackle positions. Others understandably will point to Leonard but I see the offensive line as the biggest issue. Leonard did miss a throw to Greathouse the first drive of the NIU game. Obviously the post route and the other INT weren’t good either but that first INT was a combination of things.

I thought that was a wonderful gameplan and execution against Purdue. ND doesn’t have to throw the ball all over the yard. Just find a way to churn out first downs and points.

Colzie Flores were not as highly rated or sought after

Styles and Johnson became busts for sure

You stock like highly recruited wrs year after year, many will pan out

Colzie, Merriweather, James and Greathouse were similarish type recruits as Collins.

Collins was a little higher rated but really its negligible.

They were all highly rated and sought after guys that haven't produced or looked like their ranking

I forgot about Merriweather.

We've brought in the guys. They haven't worked. Why? I'm not sure.

Greathouse is a good wr minus his drop, so is Thomas .. they were just injured when they had a good qb last year.

Tobias colzie styles are busts… James probably but tbd

It’s why you need to bring in 3-4 talented wrs every year. Only need one to be really good and one other hopefully a contributor depth piece

Johnson was a bust.

Thomas can play. Your right- health and QB play has been a factor.

Maybe it's unfair, but I think y we'd get "more" from Greathouse.

There's a lot of season left. I'm optimistic these guys will make some big plays.

They were discussing Bettis. Nasty saying Bettis will not play receiver, even though recruited as such. Lots of sentiment out there that he is much better on defense as corner or safety. I was speculating safety.
Definitely safety.

It's so easy to tell by our personnel groupings what play we are running.

2 TE and both beaux and thomas out there, 90% chance it's a run play

Both Aneyas and Ford in, QB run

Single TE split out, Pass play

I really think denbrock is trying to minimize receivers/Tes near each other out for passes to make it easier for Riley to read and make decisions. For the most part, his decision making was good, he just gets lazy and tentative on a lot of throws.

I just don't get with the coverage we are seeing why we aren't sending someone deep almost every play. It's so easy to see 1-1 matchups almost every play.

People like to talk about our WR recruiting in isolation. "We've gotten the guys here" is a common statement. But when your competitors are monopolizing the very large majority of top 100 players at the position in the country, and have 5+ WRs on their roster who are high 4 star and 5 star players, and you only got 1 WR that quality, then it shows just how far away Notre Dame still is at the position in terms of their comparative raw talent.

I get the struggles right now. Marcus Freeman is a 2.25 year coach and hasn't proven he can HC a major offense at the highest level.

Right now the most in demand positions in football are QB, WR, OT, CB, and EDGE (offensive passing and defensive passing positions) the fact that ND is so far behind in a lot of these positions on the recruiting trail is why they can't get over the hump into being a legit national title contender.

I think we're gonna see a helluva QB battle this spring:

Carr vs Angeli vs Minchey

All 3 guys can play.
Unless ND decides to grab another "star" QB off the portal. Hope not. Develop players. If you can't do that, you shouldn't be coaching at ND. Why would a young guy come here only to be passed over by a guy who comes for one year via the portal. It would be an insult? As a fan, I am tired of it. Is ND returning to dominate football? Clearly not.
