Any updates on the wr board other than burress being looked at more by msu now?

We need some speed!

For next year Williams and kk have good speed but nothing elite, they also aren’t proven. Faison has the quicks.

I really thought our offense would lead to wrs wanting to come here, we aren’t helping with our awful passing offense despite wrs running open all over when those plays are called.

Until ND can show they can get the ball downfield via the passing game, WR's are going to be reluctant to come to ND.

Means more 2 TE sets and bigger WR sets like last week. You saw us play Beaux and Thomas a lot together since they are such good physical WR blockers. Love that our WRs are known for blocking instead of catching the ball! ha

If evans leaves our TE room could be disappointing next year for the first time in awhile. Flanagan has had a rough year, despite his easy td catch last week. I did think Raridon last week had his best game of his career for ND. Hopefully he builds on that and evans keeps playing more and better.

Disagree on TE. We will have 2 experienced guys with talent and 2 talented youngsters.

Don't tell Golson5 this. He thinks the offense is dynamic.

ASK YOURSELF THIS SIMPLE QUESTION.....

If you were a prized WR recruit, highly athletic, fast, great hands, etc....
Every single time the ball is in your hands there's a chance you could score ...even at the D1 level.

Would you come here?

Before you answer allow me to remind you that you can't throw the ball to yourself and while a misdirection reverse handoff might work once in a while you need someone to pass you the ball.

Ok, now go ahead and answer that question. Would you come here?

NO NO NO NO NO....

I will answer one more time for you. Not no, but hell no!!!!

Tight ends give us a look. Why? There has been a good tradition with the TE and ND over the years. A TE getting a pass is a much different pass than the playmaking electric WR.

Allow me more of this ridiculous rant...
If you've watched for a few years let me give you a couple glaring examples...
WIMBUSH...and the unknown destination of his passing...could not play in a game against North Carolina. The receivers all had a spring in their step that game. You could see the excitement from those players. Why? They all got a better chance to catch the ball since it would arrive in a general vicinity one can manage.
Purdue game..receivers had that same spring in the step when Angeli came in relief of Riley.
Why? Receivers can now have a better chance to catch a ball a bit more in their vicinity that can be managed.

Kids are still kids. They are attracted to fun. They want to join in on the on the fun.
Oklahoma for years looked like a place for a WR to have the most fun on a football field. Bama of all a sudden becomes a passing team a few years back...
guess what...WR's start showing up. WHy? Have fun. Enjoy themselves playing a sport they love.

Commit to a QB that can throw the ball down the field and you will get better receivers.

P.S.
Our WR coach sucks so it will only go so far. Commit to throwing down the field and fire the WR coach and we might have some better WR's giving us a look.

You are the biggest keyboard warrior on this forum. You definitely are a zero.
The OP is a legitimate concern and good topic for discussion. You going off topic to taunt Golson derails this. Taking issue with one of his posts is obviously part of what these boards are all about, but initiating a taunt where he hasn’t posted anything just takes away from the OP. Golson provides numerous opportunities to argue and disagree, etc… can we at least wait for these!

I really do have concerns on where the WR room is going and the offense we're going to run. I expected next year to be a little more run heavy with most likely 2 TE sets, but I thought this year would be run heavy with more of a spread offense. We started out that way but Riley's struggles throwing forced the ND staff to go to much heavier packages including Bigger better blocking WRs. It worked vs Purdue. I'm not confident it will work very well on good Defenses. Miami OH does not have a very good run D so I think you'll see a similar game plan to purdue vs Miami. It's louisville that can stop our run game and make us throw. My other concern with the current offense is we aren't building confidence in our passing game that will be needed vs louisville, gtech, usc. We really need to start having some success in the pass game with Riley if he's our QB. He was amazing running the ball vs purdue, but he was bad again, when they were in a ton of man. That's the easiest defense to read, and we won a lot of man coverage routes and he either didn't see them, throw them, or throw them accurately a lot. His best throw of the day was probably his last one that was called back due to holding to end the first half.

Again, I don't think we win a title without really good/elite WR play. I have high hopes for Gilbert and Williams as a tandem, but that's about it that can be elite (beaux as well but we won't have him moving forward). I feel somewhat bad for beaux, a good QB and he probaly has 400 yards and 3 tds through 3 games this year. He's been open a lot downfield.

There are some elite people/posters in here. Telx may very well headline that list.

Nasty, really legitimate concerns. Frankly, I was totally disappointed with the quality of our receiver room last year, but very encouraged by the additions made this year. I’d prefer to get our share of highly rated four star receivers via recruitment each year, but as pointed out, we have to show some enthusiasm and competence in the passing game to be an attractive landing spot. We have been anything but three games into the season. The one caveat for me is the fact there are so many talented receivers coming out of high school, and good evaluation can land some very good talent among three star recruits that lacked a lot of exposure. That and the portal can quickly fix a receiver room.
Right now, Leonard is the primary problem with our passing game. Seeing guys wide open downfield jumping and waving their arms to get his attention as he is rolling out of the pocket is beyond frustrating, and sends a terrible message to our targeted receiver recruits. Whether Leonard regains confidence in his passing or not, the fact is one of Angeli or Carr or Minchey is going to be our starting qb next season, and each of those will be willing downfield passers. So from my perspective, next year will work itself out with another combination of recruits and transfers, but this year is looking more and more like defenses scheming to stop the run and us playing double te sets and big receivers to block for the run, and we all know that the defenses if the better teams usually wins this battle.

The throw Angeli took and made to Harrison is there all game every game, and even more open for Riley with beaux. He will not even attempt the throw, let alone throw it good. That's concerning. Denbrock said as much in his PC yesterday. Not only does he need to scramble less when the pocket is good, when he does roll out he has to keep his eyes downfield. His best runs have been designed runs, not scrambles as much.

I think we're gonna see a helluva QB battle this spring:

Carr vs Angeli vs Minchey

All 3 guys can play.

He’s like a pro gopher suddenly losing all confidence in his driver, and opting for irons instead. I keep hoping this is a mental obstacle he needs to overcome, but his stats for his play post ND last season and thus far this season suggest this s simply Senior Leonard as opposed to Sophomore Leonard.

I agree. Minchey is never talked about, but I think he should be. Frankly, I think it’s unlikely Leonard gets through this season without missing games from injury, and I think we might see this battle this year.

Minchey had a bit better mobility than i expected in his limited purdue reps. Definitely more athletic than Angeli.

I don't because you're forgetting about player___X

Player ___X is the transfer that thou doth know of yet. Thy coach hath too much pride of said portal.

I think there's a 1% chance we go portal. That would happen if injuries and transfers happen after the season and/or spring.

Agree with you on all points here. My concern if the passing issues don't get resolved, recruiting future WR's will suffer regardless of who ND has waiting in the wings at QB. ND has an unproven passing attack at this point, and if I was a highly recruited WR, I'd be looking for a program with a fairly successful passing attack.

What does next years WR room look like?

Maybe:

Thomas
Greathouse
Faison
Gilbert
Cam W
Saldate
Burress

And there will likely be a detractor or 2.

We may have to hit the portal again.

I think we'll look for 2 impact wrs in the portal

Agree, but by impact I mean ability to push starters or start, but I doubt we get a game changer, or someone even as good as beaux

He’s playing at a high level
He’s playing at a very high level, which makes my frustration with Leonard’s passing that much greater. That back shoulder catch on our game winning drive against Texas A&M was absolutely elite. I’ve been really impressed with every aspect of Beaux’s game.

Yep, he re committed himself and nd isn’t doing much to help him stats wise… game film shows how open he’s been at times and how good he’s blocking

Beaux has been a wasted talent thus far. Hopefully the passing game gets sorted out, and ND can maximize his abilities.

Might/should see one now. Nobody is convinced RL gives this team the best chance to win. I know some think he a 1st round draft pick but looking like Canadian ball if lucky.

Who in the holy HAIL....think's he's a first round pick?

If the Browns didn't have Watson then I would say they might take him 1st round...or the Bengals having Burrows otherwise they might trade up to the first spot to take him...
Maybe Al Davis if he was still alive would take him in the first...

But people that actually know football and what to look for at each position....

Riley is NOT a Sunday QB in any round. PERIOD!
Riley is NOT a D1 Top 12 ranking QB. PERIOD!

CFL and maybe Arena...
are they still playing arena? Even the CFL is tough as their field is even bigger.

He is not an NFL QB.

Weak inaccurate arm. The things you need in the NFL. Windows are tighter. Players are faster. Throws have to be faster. You don't need a 75 yard bomb but the 30 yard frozen rope is paramount.
None of which he can do.

How do we even know if they're any good or not?
Faison is the best of the bunch but the others ...
who knows.

We aren't using a QB that can get them a ball down the field and see what they can do.
3 yard curl and sit routes continue and for god sake Jerome Bettis even today....could play WR running these routes.

Plus our WR coach sucks...

Moreover we MUST get a QB throwing the ball all around the field so it looks like some fun for any potential receivers.

Think about it...
Our best receiver is a Lacrosse player.
In other words amazing perimeter talent wants nothing to do with playing for us and nor should they.

This is bad in 137 different ways but the most glaring is above. Our best receiver is a Lacrosse player.
That says all about out WR recruiting, coaching, playing ,etc.

It sucks!

I was told last season by you and many others in this Forum that Sam Hartman would never make an NFL roster.

Stick to your day job.
