After the disappointment of last year, the 2017 Irish have definitely brought the joy back so far. As most of the fan base realistically anticipated anywhere between 8-4 and 10-2, we seem to be heading in that direction knock on wood. As long as they continue with the heart, effort and determination we’ve seen, and why wouldn’t they, the changes BK made are looking solid and setting us up very well for the future.

Which got me thinking about next season.....BW will be in his second full season, a QB situation we haven’t had for a while. On Offense we lose McGlinchey, Nelson, Smythe, probably Josh and Cam. I think ESB stays. On Defense we lose Martini, Morgan and Trumbetti. Recruiting wise, we gain (thinking of recruits likely to see some playing time) Austin, Simon, Jones, Allen and Ademilola (and who knows, maybe some other great additions). Add in the maturity of the 18 or so Freshmen and RS Freshmen seeing the field and the rest of the youth.

Obviously not minimizing those loses, especially on the Oline, but am I the only one thinking “holy crap,” we could be REALLY fricking good next year? As in that will be the time to truly see our Irish make a Playoff run?

Now 2019 is an interesting situation. Our Offense loses Dexter, CJ, ESB for sure by then, Mustipher, Bars and Weisher. On D, we lose Coney, Tranquill, Coleman, Bonner, Jay Hayes and Tillery. We also lose Yoon. BW would be a 5th year Senior - assuming he has a great 2018, he’ll be gone too. So we’d have to see if Phil J would be ready to take over the reigns after a RS year. I think our WR corps will be in good shape by then, our Dline strengthened and improved, our defensive backfield very improved....will our Oline have been replenished, the young RB’s ready and will our new stud young LB’s be ready?

I don’t usually think ahead this early in the season but hard not to feel like we are moving in the right direction.

2018? We are in the playoff hunt now. I get tired of hearing about "we are going to be really good next year".
And I am tired of fans like you who attack other fans like me who were pissed off about losing to Georgia. Some of us fans want to win Championships. Obviously you are not one of them.
I predicted 12 and 0 at the beginning of the season and I respected the fans that predicted 6 and 6 and 8 and 4. They are all just opinions.

So up your nose with a rubber hose Pottsy. The Irish are going to the palyoffs this year !! 2018 can wait !

Bodi, I thought you were just obnoxious and crazy before, but now I realize you’re just an idiot. Fair enough, my mistake. Back on Ignore ya go.

UM -- no we are not.
This team is NOT a playoff team. We are good to better, but, Clemson, Bama, Ohio State.....those 3 would blow our doors open right now.

We could have an awesome team next year, if the following things happen...

1. ESB stays for his senior year.
2. Mustipher and Bars come back for a 5th.
3. Jay Hayes comes back for a 5th.
4. Asmar Bilal makes a smooth transition to Buck.
5. Nick Watkins comes back for a 5th.
6. Jayson Ademilola has a Sheldon Day type freshman impact.
7. Daelin Hayes, Julian Okwara and Khalid Kareem go bananas in the weight room in their first full off season with Balis and Balou.
8. Wimbush continues to progress as a passer.
9. One of the safeties on the roster, or Derrik Allen, steps up to play quality football opposite Nick Coleman.
10. The offensive tackle situation gets settled.

5. Nick Watkins comes back for a 5th.

He has really been unimpressive to me this year. It was crazy how many times he gave up big plays Saturday. The first 14 points and at least 2 of the big catches in the first half alone came at him doing a bad job in coverage. On the first TD he was just outright beat. Never even looked back for the ball or put an arm up. On the second TD he looked back way to late, never found the ball and had his body out of position to stop the catch and then gave up two more along the sideline where he had no real coverage against his guy.

Kind of hoping either he starts to up his game, or let the guy behind him play.

So you told me you put me on ignore after the Georgia game and then you respond to my post. You obviously have no integrity (you lie) and you sound like a angry little school girl when you say you are putting someone on ignore. Why not just put someone on ignore without saying anything?
You are a pathetic excuse for a man. And I like picking on internet punks like yourself. So ignore on, wuss.

There are four teams selected for the playoffs not three. And until the Irish lose another game they are in the playoff hunt.

UM--- What are you? a Michigan fan?. Figures.

It's crazy to me that so many people think that Nick has played poorly this year. I think he played a rough game on Saturday but for most of the year he has been ND's best player in coverage. So much so that opposing teams have been picking on Julian Love to the field. Both corners have actually played solid, IMO, but Love has had more balls come his way and has given up more plays, IMO, in 4 of the first 5 games.

I'll eat my crow if he doesn't respond next week, but I think Saturday was out of the norm for Nick.

IIO, thanks for your thoughts

1. Hard to imagine him leaving right now - certainly the talent appears to be there but the resume seems unlikely to be where he’ll want/need it.
2. If both leave along with the other two, our Oline could be in for a rough go. Feels like both should be back.
3. What are your thoughts on him being back? Once again, just “feels” like he’d benefit from coming back.
6. If he plays as advertised then he could/should
7. Based on this year’s results one would think they will have solid growth
9. Biggest need and question mark for me regarding our D getting to the level needed
10. Current progress is promising

This is a BIG time class if it holds together. With the young talent we are currently playing, and the 2018 class coming in, the future is looking bright. Now let's beat NC! Go Irish!!
