I'll keep this updated throughout the year, as ND targets move onto the board in some instances and move off the board in others. This is my second attempt at this (for 2017). What it represents is my "ideal class" for Notre Dame based on what's currently happening in recruiting, and who I feel ND actually has a legit shot at landing... Take it with a grain of salt. It's going to change as we go.

Here goes...

QB: Avery Davis (4 star)- committed
RB: Jamyest Williams (4 star)
WR: Tarik Black (4 star)
WR: Osiris St. Brown (4 star)
WR: Trey Blount (4 star)
Slot: Keith Taylor (3 star)
TE: Brock Wright (4 star)- committed
TE: Cole Kmet (4 star)- committed
OT: Foster Sarell (5 star)
OT: Josh Lugg (4 star)- committed
OG: Dillan Gibbons (3 star)- committed
OG: Robert Hainsey (4 star)
OG: Trey Smith (4 star)

DE: Corey Malone-Hatcher (4 star)
DE: Josh Kaindoh (5 star)
DE: Hunter Echols (4 star)
DT: Haskell Garrett (4 star)- ND won't give up
DT: Kurt Hinish (3 star)- committed
LB: Peter Werner (4 star)- committed
LB: David Adams (4 star)- committed
LB: Drew White (3 star)- committed
CB: Ambry Thomas (4 star)
S: Isaiah Robertson (4 star)
S: Chaz Ah You (4 star)

Top 10 class for sure. As I said, I'll update it further as we go.

What about D. Cages younger brother? I know he is committed to OSU, but does he have any interest at all? You would think the opportunity to play with your brother in college would be pretty cool. Do we still stand a shot with Garrett either?

Cage is solid, but ND needs an impact DT behind Tillery. All of ND's interior lineman with the exception of Jarron Jones and Jerry Tillery are the solid type of kids that you find at most B10 schools. They don't hurt you, but at least this point in their development, they aren't difference makers. None of them are Sheldon Day types, or even Jones' or Tillery's... Jerry playing DT in college was actually a 2-way street. His better upside was probably at OT, but he wanted to play DT, and ND desperately needed an athlete of his size and ability at the position. Both parties benefited in that situation because Hiestand has far less trouble recruiting bluechip OT's than the defensive staff does DT's...

I wouldn't turn Jarron Cage down if he wanted to come. He's an upgrade on some of the guys in the depth chart for sure... Not a difference maker the way Garrett could be, however.

How about Logan Rudolf at DE?

Logan is a solid player. I hate recruiting service headlines that say "elite pass rusher" as click bait, when in reality he's an Andrew Trumbetti type. A guy ND would like to have, but nowhere near the top of the list, IMO... His rankings reflect what you see on film. A nice, but not dominant, player... Josh Kaindoh, Hunter Echols, Robert Beal, and about 3 other guys ND is recruiting would be ahead of Randolph on my list.

What about Demetris Robertson? Will he sign with the 2017 class?

I said it months ago, even when the CB's were flying in for Notre Dame, that I'll gladly eat a significant plate of crow when Demetris Roberson signs with ND. I just don't see it. The family says all the right things to every recruiting service...

According to 247, ND "warm" wrt four 5 star consensus recruits:

http://notredame.247sports.com/Season/2017-Football/Targets

Neither Lewis or Lyndsey are coming to South Bend. Would take either in a heartbeat (especially Lewis), but it would be pipe dream at this point.

ND will finish with another studly class of receivers that are 4 star kids across the board, but I don't see us landing any 5 star receivers in this cycle.

As for the other two 5 stars you mentioned....

Kaindoh is the single biggest need in the class. He would play right away. He has stated that he wants to play football "up north". He's originally from Maryland. I think it could be a Notre Dame, Penn State, Ohio State battle at the end of the day.... My God I hope he doesn't go to Ohio State. Urban doesn't need anymore stud DE's.

Sarrell is the guy ND may have the best shot at. He wants elite academics and football. His mom is huge on academics. Stanford, Notre Dame, Washington battle.
