Illinois teacher labor leader, Karen Lewis, and her union constituents are trying their hardest to convey a different message. Low pay, low funding, long hours. A real drudgery. That's their story and they are sticking to it.

Vegas odds at this date: ND-10 over UT

UT fans are very doubtful about any possibility of Texas winning the game. They are still unsure who will be the starting QB. Mostly, they are speculating it will be a true freshman starting his first ever CFB game. It's easy to see why UT fans are nervous Nelly's. Who wouldn't be under those circumstances.

I didn't say it's a cakewalk. Other than our military, law enforcement and medical people, there is no more difficult job.. If you haven't done it, you wouldn't understand.

Settle down fella. I stated what the Illinois teacher union is saying. I'm not even from Illinois so it makes no difference to me. BTW: I just retired from working 36 years in a public school system so I am more than aware of what goes on, in and out of the classroom. Save the lecture for your students. And, the hardest job in a school system is the school bus driver. I've never drove a bus loaded with precious lives under all kinds of road conditions and weather problems and screaming kids and inpatient drivers but I do know its a heck of a lot harder and more stressful than teaching. If school boards would stop backing down to parents, lawyers, and PC philosophy, then just maybe our students might have a chance. That's your lesson for the day.

From your original post, I thought you were like some people out there who thinks "you have your summers off, blah blah blah" bs. First, I thank you for your 36 years. I just completed 22 myself in public school special education. I especially agree with school boards not backing down. The lack of discipline and entitlement is beyond ridiculous. Enjoy your retirement!

Special Ed? What kind of kids?

I'm deaf, so to some I'm "special ed" ... graduated from a school for the deaf many years ago ... went to college, got my graduate degrees, and was a college mathematics professor for 42 years ... retired now.

But I know how hard teaching or working in a K-12 environment is ... brother-in-law, several cousins, and a cousin-in-law are K-12 people and I see all the things they have to go through.

People think teachers have it easy ... those 3 summer months are often spent going to summer schools and things just needed to keep abreast of all the new laws and things thrown in ... and for college professors, their summers are spent catching up on their research projects needed for their expected publications, presentations, etc. Not a cake walk at all.
