ELO emphasizes strength of schedule. You get more points getting results off higher ranked opponents. And some factors might be weighed more or less...it depends.

For example, ranking soccer nations is an ELO type system. It has 1 major flaw. The USA and Mexico in CONCACAF are ranked high enough. Playing each other to maintain a high ranking than they objectively deserve.

Croatia in contrast has to play higher ranked European teams in UEFA. There is no weighting for conference strength. There should be...just like they should for college football. Yes, controversial as it sounds, a higher ranked SEC team usually > higher ranked ACC team, so a weight on make the model more accurate.

You could write this a variation of y = mx + b formula, with many more coefficients. Winding up with a score of total points, determining rank.

What is F+ in this context?

F+ is half SP+ and FEI.

I’m less familiar with FEI. SP+ is Brian Connellys power ratings. So a team that as rated a 24 is 24 points better than the average team on a neutral field.

F+ is then represented as a standard deviation. So a teams that’s 2.5 is 2.5 standard deviations above the mean

Where is Beach? Where is Mr. Positive?

I'm in my late 50s. Been a lurker here for far longer than an active poster. My experience across chat boards when posters goes MIA one of the following:

1) Most who leave announce it.

2) Some forums lose members as they wind down.

3) Indeed some die, passing on in age, occasionally an abrupt passing.

I had nothing but respect for Beach. He was fair and informative. Sure, a USC fan, but I welcome and appreciate anybody offering dialogue, even a bit if rivalry.

I post only during season. I might drop in on big news. Lastly...other than by the most egregious behavior, you can never really judge decisively the character of a poster.

I've met quite a few posters on various chat forums over decades when opportune. All were pleasant.

Another factor could've been being a bowl game, perhaps Louisville was missing a bunch of defensive players. Or maybe his OL was just worse this year. I watched the 4th quarters of their Michigan and Minnesota games, and he was running for his life in both of them. The pass rushes were getting to him every play. But whatever the reasons, he never played quite that well this year.

Maiava looks to be fairly equal to him so far, statistically.

USC won both his starts in a fairly pedestrian fashion against at best decent opponents, in terms of both talent and current form. So they've righted the ship a bit, but they do not present in this game as a team particularly on the rise. More like, okay. As long as we are totally focused and motivated like we have been, we should beat them confidently. To me, the only real X factor is if we fall behind a bit, does our offense somehow fall apart. No reason to think so, but it's not something we've dealt with much at all.

Bodi was very old (like in his 70s-80s+ i think). With how committed of a poster he was, there's no way he would be alive and not be posting on this forum. I fear he may have passed on.

Bodi posted about working long hours. He was in his late forties or early fifties based on his posts.
