Socialism is like a cancer ! It starts with a “ Little “ and then spreads and destroys the whole “ organism “ !
Just like “ Abortion “ started with early term and has now spread to Infanticide.
There is and old saying in German : “ Give the Devil a finger and he’ll take the whole hand !”
The Democrats dont even hide it anymore brother.
They fully embrace it.

rgc7, this is the same "slippery slope" argument we heard about Vietnam. Socialism isn't a monolithic concept, just as democracy is not monolithic. Do you really believe that America isn't smart enough to figure out how to provide universal healthcare that every other First World nation provides for its citizens? Are we really that incapable? I can't accept any suggestion that the French, English, Canadians, Dutch, Spanish, Japanese, etc. are that much smarter than us. Also, none of those nations would be described as socialist (although France comes dangerously close).

I don't want to be like the French, English, Canadians, Dutch, Spanish, Japanese etc. Healthcare isn't a right. Anyone can attain healthcare coverage if they want to work for it.

I though you said you were a small government guy?
Washington is a money pit
How familiar are you with the VA?? ??
The bureaucracy will suck up more funds than Americans would get in return
Would the politicians be subjected to the same healthcare??????How about the goverment workers???? Would illegals be included and if not then how would anyone know?
Would th his end planned parenthood or just expand it?
Does it cover abortions?
It is clear it would be a mistake.
Small government?
Come on man!

Here is the problem with my old party the Democratic party: They embraced Political Correctness, They think Abortion is a good thing and there is no room for descent about it. They appear to be for open borders; Both parties when in power think it's ok to expand government but Democrats take it to a whole new level. They think Socialism will work. It works no where. Even in western countries where they implement it. There is extremely high unemployment. The list go on but this is a good start
Throw in a little bit of blame everything on whitey and your golden

duck,
I think that you asked the most critical question : “ Are we really that incapable ? “
My answer is “ we Certainly are !
If the history of Russia, Cuba, Argentina, and NaziGerman, are not enough to convince anyone of the failure of Socialism, the current event of the socialist government in Venezuela is unfolding right before our

If that is not enough to convince you, then , I don’t know if anything will !

There's been tons of studies on the subject of a single payer system and they unanimously agree that single payer healthcare would save US taxpayers trillions of dollars over a 10 year period while covering every citizen. Even a Koch funded study came to the same conclusion.

Every other wealthy nation has a form of single payer and their healthcare systems ranks higher in efficiency/wait times, in better cost, in satisfaction, and in health outcomes.

The United States pays double what most other industrialized nations currently pay for healthcare while having worse health outcomes and many of its citizens are uninsured and many more under-insured.

This is not a debatable issue and thankfully many americans agree. The last poll i saw had 70% of americans on board with a single payer "medicare for all" system (majority of republicans included).

This is very debatable.
It's a state issue first and foremost. If it was so great libral states would of already implemented it

There's the best example of government healthcare tried out in this country. Have you ever used the VA?

The profit motive/private model doesn't work in healthcare. We've already tried tweaking this formula in millions of different ways and it simply doesn't work (unless you are profiting off the current system). In every other wealthy nation there's a single payer/universal healthcare system that ranks better in virtually every measurable category and all of those systems are government funded/funded by taxpayers collectively.

I don't know what happened to single payer in vermont or the va but these are lazy rebuttals. Let me ask you some questions:
  • What about the fact that 30M americans are uninsured today?
  • What about the fact that the current healthcare system is responsible for 40+ thousand american lives every year due to lack of access?
  • What about the fact that the current healthcare system prices out many americans altogether (even those insured) and is the leading cause of bankruptcy in the US?
  • What about the fact that americans pay twice as much for their healthcare for worse health outcomes?
And many of these issues have gotten *better* since the ACA but the ACA was a silly half measure.

Other industrialized nations don't have these problems; the international community looks at americans as exploited retards. These are issues in healthcare that only americans and third world countries have to deal with.

And why do we deal with them? because the moneyed interest/lobby in washington and the corporate owned media and their propaganda is so powerful that it's nearly impossible to make any progress as a society without them signing off on it. And they don't sign off on anything that is going to require them to pay more in taxes and they don't give a sh1t who dies as a consequence.

The real divide in this country isnt republican vs democrat, conservative vs liberal, man vs woman, black vs white, gay vs straight, etc. the real divide is the wealthy class vs everybody else. And it's about time more americans got on board and started fighting for the right team.

President Obama went to bed with the insurance companies.
If the market had more insurance companies that can trade across state lines prices drop. You give goverment sole power to healthcare there are no longer any options left
BUT IF there is single payer implemented
Will the lawmakers get the same insurance they are shoving down our throats?
Will illegals be entitled to receive it?
The bureaucracy will be so large it will eat up most the funds that taxes should be used for.
The wealthy is not the enemy big goverment is
Big government can be far more intrusive to the citizens far more than a wealthy person ever could

I don’t know every single payer system in every land, but All my wife’s relatives are in the German System.
As I have tried to explain in previous posts. Initially, when Germany had a relatively small older population,
And a large younger population and full employment, their single payer system worked very well. When I
Lived and worked in Germany, I was covered by their single payer system for a couple of years. Fortunately,
I was young and healthy and rarely needed any health care.
Almost “ Everyone “ was working and paying into the system and a relatively small population of
Elderly and disabled were taking out.
Germany , also had a very effective wall, built by East Germany to keep East Germans out of West
Germany. That also , indirectly keep the poorer East Germans out the West German health care system.
Another factor that greatly helped the West German economy and thus their health care system to grow
Was that the USA was providing vast sums of money for the defense of Germany and NATO.
Then the wall came tumbling down, and the East Germans were immediately coved by the
German single payer system. As the men who frequented the bar ,where my brother in law went to quench
His thirst ,used to say in jest , “ The wall should have been much thicker and higher “ and “ Everyone who owns a German Shepard is now a German! “
With open borders and the floods of “Refugees “ from Arab countries now living in Germany all
Covered, the wait for simple testing is now unbelievably long, before one can get critical medical procedures
Equally long. In short, the system is starting to fail and is in decline.
Germans who can afford to are buying private supplanted insurance plans. Doctors’ fees are also
Capped so many doctors are now foreign and no longer German. The rate of infections during hospital stays
Is also increasing which is very frightening!
Socialism always fails eventually because it creates a forever increasing inefficient bureaucracy
That is accountable to no one.
As poet, pointed out in another post, the VA is a perfect example of a failing single payer system !
As the bureaucracy grows , services decline ! Always happens !

Well, whether you all like it or not, I believe we are going to experience a form of democratic socialism over the next 5 - 10 years. If Trump is the Republican nominee in '20, he will lose and the Dems will recover the WH. I expect them to hold the House and they have a good chance at taking over the Senate. At that point, we will get universal healthcare, although I have no idea what form it will be. I suspect that we'll also have a restructuring of the military so as to decrease overall military spending and increase spending on infrastructure. We will get a common sense immigration plan that will be way more liberal than most of you will ever be able to accept.

In the following election cycles, the Republicans will regain some ground but they won't be able/willing to undo anything. Once universal healthcare is established, the Republicans will only be able to fine tune it (which I suspect it will need) but they won't be able to take it away. They will toughen up immigration policy because...well that's what Conservatives want and do.

As to the military, it all depends upon how the reduction in spending is handled and what happens globally. Any reduction by the Dems has to be done very gradually in order to avoid causing too big of a hit on our economy. It will take many years to convert weapons manufacturers into other industries, i.e., infrastructure-related industries, high tech industries, etc. It will happen because we just can't continue to increase military spending when we get so little for our buck. This is not a slam on the men and women of the military but, rather, on the leadership (both Dems and Republican) who don't recognize that the money we spend on the military can be better spent and without putting our brave men and women in harms' way.

rgc7, I know that you won't like most of these development and many of your concerns and fears may well turn out to be correct. Nonetheless, I am convinced that it is going to happen. The momentum is there (at least for universal healthcare) and I don't see it stopping over the next 2 - 4 years.

  • Duck,
I really hope that you are wrong ? However, if the American people really want to go that route,
I really feel sorry for our once-great nation. However, By that time I will either be in a “ Better Place “ or
Be too old to really care anymore !
With a National Debt of 22 trillion , where will the money come from to pay for all the “ Goodies “ ?
You can confiscate all the money every billionaire and millionaire has, and that would not even put a “ Dent “ in the National Debt !
Even if you could , which will be impossible, confiscate all that money. Long before that ever, Happens, the super wealthy will simple become citizens of other countries like Switzerland and take their Money with them. They will close their businesses here and move abroad with them.
Thousands upon thousands of American jobs will be lost further decreasing the tax base.
One thing about socialism it is a great equalizer! If I may quote a great new Writer : “ It carries the Germ “. Private joke ! But very accurate!
American will become so weak and sick by the Germ , that Obama’ s words that American is not an exceptional nation will certainly Come true. Obama’s dreams of his father will be realized , and America will descend in mediocrity.
To paraphras a quote from a true American hero, with whom I had the honor to serve in Korea, “Some day a stronger people will come along, Defeat us,
Enslave us, and take our women from us”.
When I served with him at the Chosin Reservoir
He had another quote that shower the toughness of his generation: “ we are surrounded
By the Chinese on all sides, those poor bastards, now we can shoot in any direction and kill them !
Chesty Puller, USMC, 1950

As we enter into the decline of weakness that Socialism will bring about, America will decline and China will dominate us.
In my lifetime,I was born to see the Greatest Generation of toughness and personal responsibility to the Generation of today which shows every sign of the weaknesses that Chesty warned us about !
Hope that you “ Enjoy the free lunches “ because their quantity will be rationed , and the Quality will be not very savory!
“ If you don’t have money, you can’t buy honey !”
I heard that quote a few times in my youth as well, but I forgot who said it !

C'mon brother.
Let the millionaires and billionaires pay our healthcare while we are it I want a new car and home as well they can afford it. This is going to be great. No more busting my ass. It sure will be nice to see how the other side lives though I hope my dogs would be covered as well.....I mean rottweilers are not cheap....well at least till China and Russia cripple our influence with the military restructuring, but who cares the new Democratic party will have it all figured.
I just hope Margaret Thatcher was wrong about other peoples money. That sure would suck I guess I would have to find a job then.....well if there are any at all with no more people with money for investment.
I'm sure it will be great while it lasts though

Trump to Cortez; Sit down, you dumb Ho ! America will never be a Socialist country !

By far my favorite line in the State of the Union speech !

Poet, my friend,
This country has moved so far away from the country that I was born into. We had God in our homes and In our schools. We loved our country, our Constitution , our history and our flag. Democrats and Republicans had the same values of God and country and Family.
Today we have turned away from God, we are not only. Murdering babies in the womb, but actually
Passing laws to kill babies who are out of the womb.
My church is silent , the Catholic Universities are not only no longer Catholic , but have joined the radical, Godless Left !
You already mentioned the “ Justice “ system and the disgraceful witch-hunt !
No this is not the Great Country that I was born into !
America's downfall began when they took God out of the schools and excelerated in1973. Woe v. Wade.

You are correct :” God is Everywhere ! “ but he gave mankind “ Free Will “ we can choose to accept Him
or turn away and reject Him . We can choose Good ( Life ) or choose evil ( Abortion ) ! We can honor God ,as our forefathers did, in our founding documents and in our schools and in our pledge of allegiance!!
Or we can remove his name , his commandments, his images from all public and national buildings And monuments.
God Bless America! May the Kingdom of God grow and flourish within all of us !
