jenner to be honered at the epsys with courage award

Perse innocent until proven guilty isnt really a thing on this board.

Independent of that his own admissions open the door to a lot of criticism.

No kidding?

I wonder how the family of Arthur Ashe really feel about what ESPN has done? I nominate Pete Frates.

several guys that I've talked to about this at the optical facility that I work at are also pissed like me about how someone like lauren hill is being snubbed by espn for this award while a gender changing person is getting it instead. I personally would be outraged pinnick4 if I was a member of the Arthur ashe family as there is no fight or courage involved in changing genders compared to what lauren hill went through. lauren hill showed lots of fight and courage while battling a disease that took her at such a young age

Not sure why people are getting "pissed" because of the ESPYs. They're the ESPYs.

I would like to think that Arthur Ashe's family has a better understanding of the LGBT community than your co-workers. It seems like you don't quite understand gender identity issues, nor, as I've indicated earlier, do you seem to understand mental health concerns.

it isn't about how you feel about the LGBT community NDEwing18 but the fact that espn is awarding someone for changing genders over someone like lauren hill who showed tons of courage and fight while battling a disease that took her life at such a young age. again I don't really care if some changes genders even though I think it is wrong but it it is all about and only about awarding someone for doing it over lauren hill or someone else that was or is in the situation that she was in

Reading your posts in this thread, one gets the distinct impression that you really do care. A lot.

Yes, Lauren Hill showed much fortitude in fighting her battle, but what was her choice? She did not really have to make a choice.

You must not know any tran-gendered individuals if you really believe it is not a difficult decision to reach to undergo the process and to be public about the decision.

your taking it wrong sal as it is just simply about giving an award to someone just for changing genders. what is funny is that so many people who are okay with jenner getting this award would be outraged if hugh hefner and larry flint were given lifetime achievement awards on a national awards show for what they've done for the porn industry

A huge part of your problem is that you are equating what Jenner did to something pornographic and unseemly.

I mean people with binary notions of gender tend to do that or best case scenario minimize the issue by saying it's not real

yes NDSMC78 because so many people like the media want to embrace LGBT community when it was considered by so many to be a sin to be in that community not long ago but yet those same people want to bash the porn community when it is no less of a sin to be a part of there community as it is to be a part of the LGBT community

You are obviously one of those who believes that all members of the LGBT community are sinners. I suggest that you need to be more tolerant of peope who are different from you.

Maybe you should explain how these people are sinners, and just how is it we are to judge them based on their putative sins. Maybe also explain how judgement of sinners trumps acceptance and tolerance of the person, not the sin, that is supposed to be a goal of an expressed Christians.

you are correct; w/o moral perspective nor any relationship with God then they have no basis for determining 'sin'; the only problem is ...they are not here alone! They want universal condonment of their lack of spirituality or a relationship with God: Ain't gonna happen" . But, Christians are to hate the sin but love the sinner.

how are they sinners ?

Hey Liberals ! Since you consider Jenner a courageous hero for living outside the box--what about this courageous young lady?
Imagine the pain she goes through and the hurtful comments she gets?
Is she your hero too?

i do not see him/her/it as brave. There are veterans that came back with no limbs and ran marathons why not honor one of them. this is PC at its best

Bodi- there are a lot of "conservatives" who believe in individual rights that believe people who want to deny the LGBT community rights and/or recognition are wrong. Further, saying you don't have a problem with a private entity recognizing someone as courageous doesn't mean your saying people not recognized lack courage.

Perse-
1. He was famous before hand, no way he could transition without being in the public.

2. No one is asking you to condone the acts of the LGBT community. They are asking you to not judge them, punish them or think less of them. Having a relationship with God different from yours doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

i'm glad I started this thread as some good points got made from a lot of good posters but I think it is time move along from this it

to....football? seems there is a news void! seems things are out of wack! this is the time of year where ND suffers some sort of calamity! has everyone fallen asleep?

I just watched the Jenner interview. He does not like Obama and calls himself a republican.
So he is alright in my book. I might sit down with him/her for a beer sometime. Hell, I might even ask her to show me her boobs.

Why aren't you liberals complaining about why only the rich like Bruce Jenner can get gender reassignments??????
Liberals often do work to get insurance coverage for these types of procedures; it is the social conservatives who act to block such coverages.

I don't care what side of the fence you are on regarding the transgender debate, but the fact is, Bruce Jenner killed someone 4 months ago because of extreme negligence. He took someone's life because he wasnt paying attention while driving AND hauling an off road vehicle. It may not have been a crime, but he darn sure was 100% responsible for that death and he darn sure could have prevented it by simply paying attention to the road. Instead, someone paid the price of their life for his irresponsible behavior.

For that alone, he shouldnt EVER be getting an award like that. In fact, he should be getting a lot more attention for killing someone than he is for changing genders. The media has completely ignored what he did to that woman, probably because she didnt leave behind any immediate family to make a big fuss about it. That's a real shame.

The only way this could become more surreal is if he/she gets married to Kim Il Jong or starts making hard core porn.
