yes, they pay very well

The only news here is Shaquille openly admitting what most people already know. It's all over the country and its accepted as long as you don't get caught. All talking heads on ESPN , CBS, FOX, ABC and every cable channel that covers college football all know players are being paid. No one talks about it,ever. They do all these stories on the kid with the tough background with no father or mother. They do stories of a kid who against all odds and hardships made to (insert school), and became one of the best players. They sit with the family and talk about what it was like growing up with ( insert player). Every week it's a feel good story. Blah, blah blah. Yet no one ever asks how much did ( insert school) offer to pay you if you came to play for their university. Don't get me wrong. I don't think it's all colleges or universities. I do think it's enough to tip the scales in favor of certain schools. Schools that recruit honestly don't have a real chance. It's been happening for decades. Pay for play services is a not so dirty little secret. I'd have more respect for the pundits if they actually talked about what really goes on in recruiting and when the recruit gets to campus. In a lot of cases the school that offers the most ( wink wink) usually gets the premier player. It has nothing to do with getting an education. The sad but true state of big time college football.

I used to work for a company that was HQ in Baton Rouge. I was a VP and our CEO was an LSU undergrad and UM MBA grad. This was back in the late 90's and early 2000's. His neighbor also happened to be the ever lovable Saban from 2000-2004. I always said ND could get the occasional LA kid due to the heavy Catholic population, and grab some MI guys. He laughed and said LSU could keep anyone they wanted in state. Parental jobs and "our duffel bags are big". He was dead serious. Basically said we buy what we want.

shocking. c'mon. hundred dollar handshakes very commonplace everywhere. compensation in many forms have been occurring forever. no school is immune. the stories i could tell during my recruitment and my time at msu.

So tell. As long as good men say nothing this will continue.

I remember seeing a photo of Joe Montana driving around the ND campus in a beautiful Trans-Am circa 1978.Joe's family came from very modest means.

My parents were lower middle class income when I was growing up and saved every dime for me to go to college. If I had landed a college scholarship I would have been driving around in an Trans Am circa 1984.

By the way, whatever happened to Bama after DJ Fluker came out and said he got $50K?

Yep, me tooi remember it. Do some of these kids take out student loans to buy these vehicles. I remember a story from i think the 90's when ND was playing at Tenn. There was a story about a car dealership in Knoxville. The guy being interviewed was bragging about all of the UT players who had bought new cars there.

players every saturday everywhere sell their complimentary tickets. i remember our rose bowl game in 88 where guys were selling their comps for thousands. of course it will continue. can't blame a player. everyone else is cashing in from their efforts.
