Maybe these unexpected recruits, along with our new S&C attitude, can be the impetus for our resurgence in 2017. Might as well think positively, when it really doesn't matter what you think.

For sure . 5 solid NSD signees to go along with the earlier commits. Those doing the rating-Scout, Rivals,etc.-have ND's class ranked, 10.13 and 15. Nice finish.
Wow, great way to finish. And suddenly we're loaded with young DL, between 2016 and 2017. That's a great position to have depth in for the future.
Impressive close TelXDamn nice finish. Elko got his Rover of the future and an interesting high upside DE. A really good finish all things considered. Can't wait to see how this staff recruits the 2018 class.
TelXSki...very impressive given the circumstances, and holding onto the remaining fifteen commits as well. However, while we have every right to celebrate, we also need to acknowledge the hit we took with the quality of our defections, and the reality that we were scrambling for plan B targets to complete this class. One thing is clear, we will need some talented DEs and CBs to sign for ND in the next class to balance with these deficiencies in this class.
I agree. Considering most were expecting a terrible result - strong finish.Very good job by the staff closing like they did. Go Irish.
Compare your class to MSU's and you'll be singing another tune. There is a lot of praise for this class and I understand the optimism after the kind of year we had. We're all looking for something to be happy about. However, if this were any other year most people would be very disappointed. This is by all accounts a very lackluster ND recruiting class albeit the DT's are ok for what we're accustomed to sans the Tuitt, Nix, etc. days.
morning Ski...I share these thoughts and sometimes worry that we are stuck without a path to the top. Schools with great traditions but with recent losing seasons like a Michigan, go through coaches until they get one that brings excitement and optimism, and who have an immediate positive impact on the quality of play, and recruiting takes off as the team is seen as a winner and a fun HC to play for, and a place to hone your skills for the next level, without the challenge of being a student athlete. ND doesn't have this with Kelly, nor does it enjoy the local regional team fanaticism that is typical of many schools, nor does it have the draw of a conference that some kids love. I am struck by the reactions of the recruits we get on campus, and the constant reference to our history, tradition of winning, and the academic advantages and benefits, etc... My bitching about Kelly's horrific decision to stick with BVG and some of his inexplicable game plans aside, I still think he would be more successful if the Admin did more to support the student athlete to reduce the burden of being both during football season. I also wish we would return to the policy of allowing two or three admission exceptions annually, but under a strict set of guidelines where character, effort, grades and environment are all taken into account; along with a strict remedial program of study their first year at ND. I don't think the Admin has to sell its soul for us to compete at an elite level, but I do think they need to pull their heads out of the clouds and recognize we fall short of the level of commitment necessary and that changes of this ilk are necessary. Absent this, I think we will be fortunate to wallow at the 8-4 or 9-3 level, not replenish the subway alum with new young blood as we die off, and slowly become a de facto regional football school. Wish there was a way for ND nation to collectively express these concerns rather than all the fire Kelly energy we wasted this past year. Frustrating for sure!TelX
I just don't know Don't know if we can turn a corner. It seems you have to have success to attract top talent and our likelihood of achieving success is a crapshoot.
We can't find the nugget. Case in point is the Oliver Martin kid who reminds of mcaffrey or a Wes walker type. We should Land that guy. Harbaugh gets him
Then the 5 star guys-- we are not close. But Stanford has them in play. And SC gets them. Why not us? Years ago we got these kids. But years ago we won. We were the Bama of today
Very frustrating
Dopey post of the day. Congrats!Kelly showed his Genius this past season against North Carolina St when the game was in a Hurricane. He chose to pass instead run over and over. I think he was trying to get fired so he could not work and still collect Fat Stacks of $$$ just like Weis did.
Excellent post. Money. Well said TelXI have some of the same reservations or concerns. I try to think about the successful programs and what attracts the best players to them. Yes, winning helps with recruiting, no doubt.
