That would be an awesome hire. Herman or Peterson are my picks.

Peterson is just on the verge of building a PAC 12 powerhouse. I don't see it.

Herman has too many other options that would not have the restrictions of ND. He will be the new tease to replace Meyer.

Peterson is not the type of coach who butterflies from job to job. You can always join the Tom Herman sweepstakes with Texas and LSU.

no way Brian Kelly makes it the whole season. the worst game plan I've ever seen in 30 years of watching football. terrible

I have bad news for you
: Not only will Kelly make it through this season - he will retain his job indefinitely.....Kelly is coming off a 10-3 season (2015), just signed a 6-year extension and Swarbrick has a man-crush on Kelly, whom he hired (Kelly is 'Swarbrick's man').

T. J. Fleck is the hot new hire in the industry. He may be too young or inexperienced or from a smaller school, but he is really on everyone's radar. He would come if the situation is right.

I have strong doubts that Swarbrick will fire Kelly - based on the fact Kelly is coming off a 10-3 season, Swarbrick just signed him to a 6-year extension and Swarbrick, it would appear, has a man-crush on Kelly (i.e. Kelly is Swarbrick's man).

And.....don't overlook the fact that Swarbrick is learning how to be an AD "on the job" (yet another brilliant hire) which is how ND ended up with Kelly in the first place.

Some AD who has a clue (something that JS appears to be lacking) will hire a guy like Fleck while Jack spends his time defending his man-crush!

Can't believe Fleck is being talk about for some high level HC jobs. Just a few years ago, he was Rutger WR coach. Didn't see anything special but he does have a lot of energy.

Sorry, he is and the next position for him will be a top level coaching spot. He's that highly thought of.

As to the OP, I don't think Petersen would leave Washington for ND. He would be my first pick if Kelly is gone, but everything I've read about him suggests he and his family love the Northwest. Followed him as a QB at UC Davis, and then position coach at Portland and Oregon, followed by OC and head coach at Boise State; and now HC at Washington. He has been successful at every stop. He coaches is a premiere conference where his program is on the rise and the traditional powers are teetering. He will likely be playing in the Conference championship game most years with a good shot At the playoffs, which has to be viewed as more attractive than independent ND, unless he loves the tradition of ND. I've not read anything that suggests the later. The Wisconsin coach appeals to me based on a limited sample because the team plays hard and physical, characteristics we are lacking this year.

Fleck has had one good year that is not even over yet. We need someone with consistancy.

Unless the wheels fall completely off this season (which you could argue is happening), Kelly will be the head coach next year. Unlike many of you, I believe ND is one of the top jobs in college football. The same people that are saying ND football can't compete said it prior to the Irish going 12-1 and of course 10-3 last year. ND has great facilities and as good a national brand as anyone. Yes, the Irish have academic requirements but that can be used as a positive in recruiting. Would Peterson leave Washington? I have no idea, but generally money talks. Saban said no to AL several times but the Tide kept increasing the offer.

It's Petersen I believe and although ND would attract any number of good coaches in the unlikely even the school fires Kelly. Petersen is not one of them. Sadly SC blew its shot at him last year and will never have another. ND will never have one. He believes he is in the perfect spot. He loves the Northwest and now believes UW can get him to the natty.
