In truth, Kelly really screwed us with the timing and manner of his departure.
The mistake was not hiring an interim coach for 2022 and then obtaining a proven, experienced coach for 2023 and beyond.

The greedy administration wants all the money but they don’t really care a whit for FB IMO.
In this current environment they could easily lower academic standards for FB athletes under the guise of “fairness” and “opportunities for underprivileged” but nah, they’ll just be happy to keep taking the fans money and going 8-4 with a pinstripe bowl victory to make us all think “maybe next year.”

I think you may be onto something, my friend… they have been lowering the standards for medical school for years under those same guidelines without much pushback.

You really don't know anything about running a university or how academia works, do you?
It may well have been a woke hire. To insist that MF, who's CV alone was extremely thin for getting a plum job like ND HC, was hired solely on the merits.... and that a putatively exceedingly image-consicous institution like ND, in this climate that we're living in, wasn't happy to score political points hiring a handsome and charismatic black coach, sort of at the peak of BLM-style consciousness and 'wokeness'.... is to be quite willfully naive. Though only Jack Swarbrick really knows. Which is not to say that such a hire as MF was purely cynical and calculated, only that it very, very well may have played a role....
But I don't think, if MF ends up a bust or at least a disappointment, that it's going to set the program back 30 years. Society's probably going to have collapsed into some sort of horrific post-apocalyptic nightmare anyway, by the time 30 years from now rolls around. So it's the near term that's more important....

I have been begging for a “remedial entry program” for years. You allows small number of students in. Maybe 50. Some athletes. Some regular kids. They are good but not great students. You create certain courses they must take in order to be acclimated. If you did this and then could bring in 5 football players per year. Game changer in my opinion.
Why don't you start your own university and do this?

But only the former conspired with the SEC and BT and thus also with Fox and Disney/ESPN, allegedly to give more access to all for the playoffs, to try to destroy the Pac (a now accomplished mission) and deeply harm the ACC, which would end up shipping ND into the BT because there would be only 2 truly Major conferences.
The great majority of posters on this board who react wildly from game to game, from drive to drive even, have no connection with Notre Dame at all, let alone being grads themselves. The difference in the quality of posts between those made by actual alums and the rest are stark. I don’t think I have seen any alum here spout off wildly on these boards.
Oh, and don't forget all the WOKE bullshit happening on campus. Once a proud CATHOLIC university, Notre Dame is hardly recognizable anymore. Yes, the buildings are great...the facilities are great...this is great, that's great....but the university's identity has been lost and continues to get more & more lost.
I have family that attended and graduated from Notre Dame, and we have a large Irish-Catholic family/close friends..... and many are Notre Dame Football fans. I never hear the disrespectful comments regarding Notre Dame Football that you do in this Forum from certain posters, so I take all of this with.a grain of salt.

It should also be said, that the, shall we say deliberate hiring of black coaches in the sport of football, and I suppose basketball, has a history outside of the specifically current 'woke' zeitgeist. And it is felt, apparently, that it would be a fine thing to hire qualified black coaches whenever possible, if they are qualified enough, and MF certainly was very much sufficiently qualified in his way, even if there were of course many other possibilities that were also qualified, or even more qualified.... presumably on account of so many black athletes who actually man the rosters at the NFL and major college level, that there needs to be at least a reasonably representative number of black coaches as well....

I understand what you are saying... BUT sometimes this debate needs to be left alone, to be worked out over time... meaning.. I like that Freeman is a young black coach! That Riley is a young white coach... Riley has more experience.. BUT Freeman is on the right track... I hate the 2 losses... BUT He deserves the opportunity to work it out... Harbaugh's first three seasons weren't so great.. especially year three! Freeman relates to the kids tremendously... he is doing so much right! We as fans need to be more realistic in our expectations for where the team is at.. especially transitioning from BK AND TR... AND ND does not and won't use the portal like most schools! That is on the school 's requirements... NOT the coaches! Just beat USC!
Well that's wonderful. I like that he's a young black coach too. And I don't think anyone's passing any particular judgement, I'm certainly not. Nor is he in any danger of getting a quick pink slip. Somebody just asked if he was a woke hire, and so I said, well, maybe a little bit....
He might as well be a Liberal Lutheran or Anglican. That's what he sounds like almost all the time. And like those Liberal Protestants, he has a nasty self-righteous temperament when he is pushing garbage.
