The less a team is expecting an onside kick, the more successful it is. When teams are expecting it, when WP is about 0.15 and below, the success rate is about 20%. But when teams aren't expecting it, the success rate averages 60%. I like those odds

The odds of a team scoring against the Irish D is pretty darn high
 
This comment was made in jest, obviously. What works in High School will not work in College. We will have to see how Kelly rounds the defense into shape. If the defense still remains ineffective, I believe he will need to be more aggressive on 4th down to keep the defense off the field. However, if they fail on 4th down, providing a short field with this defense surely won't end well.
