Why would you leave a big time program like ND and go to Cincy to do the same job? Me thinks Kelly is not fun to work for or with.
Denbrock has been with Kelly forever, so I'm sure that is not the issue
You don't think Kelly's looking for another gig is connected in any way...do you? Watch Monday nights Western Michigan game. Your next coach may be on national TV.
Is supposed to be fun?Why would you leave a big time program like ND and go to Cincy to do the same job? Me thinks Kelly is not fun to work for or with.
I said on another board that I think Kelly is going to be gone in 30 days. He is protecting Denbrock and Gilmore by giving them a chance to get out before the farce is exposed.Why would you leave a big time program like ND and go to Cincy to do the same job? Me thinks Kelly is not fun to work for or with.
Yea winning is fun Kelly should try it!Is supposed to be fun?
Ara, I agree 100%. Makes sense for Kelly and makes sense for Denbrock. Hope he hires a youngI woke up a couple hours ago to the news that Denbrock has notified ND that he's accepted the Cincinnati job. It's being posted on many media sources except here and UND.com. I don't blame Kelly for taking the play calling back; since he's coaching for his job, and the offense sputtered so after he moved to defense after game five. He will probably name Coach Quinn as OC and TE coach. They worked well together at Central Michigan and Cincinnati. There's a lot of positions to fill before the dead period ends. Good luck Coach Denbrock at Cincinnati, if that is truly your final decision.

Finebaum was dead accurate... ND football is a train wreck.Ara, I agree 100%. Makes sense for Kelly and makes sense for Denbrock. Hope he hires a young
talented QB coach with a good track record at recruiting, and names Quinn as you suggest, and finishes the coaching changes by accommodating Elko. Uncertainty hurts recruiting and keeping those already committed, and this drip drip nature of these changes reeks of uncertainty. Get it done.
Agreed. Repeating an earlier reply to you expressing similar thoughts.Finebaum was dead accurate... ND football is a train wreck.
* There isn't another program what would have given Kelly an extension.
* There isn't a team in the land that wouldn't already have fired him.
* Continually losing games we should win.
* Never beating a team that finishes in the top 10
* Vacated wins
* More off the field issues than I can remember at ND
* Embarrassing sideline behavior
* Declan Sullivan
* 4-8 season
* Leaks of him looking for other jobs in previous years.
It's absolutely stunning how little ND cares about it's football program or it's reputation as long as the $$$$ keeps rolling in. A school that would never have tolerated the number of arrests in the past, continues 8 win seasons or reprehensible sideline behavior is willing to gladly accept it all as long as the money keeps pouring in. Shameful is all I can say.
Telx, next season I am walking away. I didn't buy one stitch of ND merchandise, I'm not going to any games and I'm not watching them on TV. I'm not doing it because I want to, I'm doing it to try (in my very, VERY small way) and prevent exactly what you said, the slow death of ND football. The only way any serious changes will come about is if the money stops and if changes don't happen soon... well, there is going to be a point of no return when ND football will become Army.Agreed. Repeating an earlier reply to you expressing similar thoughts.
Java, I share this perspective, and feel this gets lost in our collective angst over some of Kelly's inexplicable decisions, along with our collective irritation with his arrogant me first personality. All of this takes place within the context of an Administration that loves to embrace the ND brand and the following and income it derives from same, but one that consciously and arrogantly fails to create an environment in which the coach and team can succeed at the level they are selling. The only way to hold the Administration to account for the deceit is to walk away, which I am not willing to do. Realistically, this is happening before their eyes by the younger generation who have no reason to have ever embraced the ND legacy, and absent a major change, the size of the ND subway alums and the income derived from the football program are both headed for a cliff as our generation passes. We are clearly headed towards becoming a regional brand, very sad.

To me what makes it even worse is that they are willing to accept all of the off the field embarrassments. If they want to overlook those things then they should at least expect the team to win. Its disgusting they accept all of that yet don't demand a quality product to offset some of the negativity.
In the previous 30-40 years I can count on 1 hand the number of ND games is didn't watch on TV or listen to on the radio. Last year I missed 4 games and didn't bother with parts of others.I wonder if there is a way to memorialize all of the posts that read -- "I'm not going to watch ND on TV or attend any games next year" --
and then come back next fall and see who all posts about a particular game and/or the season! I think it would be amazing to see who actually says this (about not attending or watching), and who actually does it.
Java, a man of your convictions for sure. Frankly, I'm too selfish to deprive myself of the weekly angst, and I don't think the pebble in the body of water principle is at play here. It will take action by major donors to bring about this level of change, and the Admins first line of defense to placate the whales will be to fire Kelly, and then the charade and Jack's BS defining the NC as our annual goal will gain traction, until dissatisfaction sets in yet again. Realistically, we're probably a minimum of six years out from any possible change in Administration and our policies and practices governing the football program. At some point, the program that made Norte Dame an international brand will either reinvigorate or die, and I think that point is less than ten years out.Telx, next season I am walking away. That seems to be the most sensible explanation.Maybe, just maybe, and this is a stretch -- but could it be that Denbrock is getting a promotion to actually be an OC and be in charge of an offense???
Ugh.. I'm more depressed than ever because you make a good argument. I like your 'pebble in the body of water' analogy but honestly if you are correct I'm not sure I can even bring myself to watch the slow death of ND football.Java, a man of your convictions for sure. Perhaps you will never get the bigger picture? At what point were we in the conversation? If pre season accolades that were bestowed upon the team from prognosticators is your argument? Well...Denbrock was going to be demoted to WR coach...so he left. We were in the college playoff conversation last year...lets hold off on the ND is turning into army...we went 4-8 and have a top 10 recruiting class as of now. Im willing to ride out next year with this complete overall on the coaching staff and see what it produces.
Yes, think this scenario is very plausible. And that's what is so sad. There is a terrible malaise that sets in when you are on the verge of giving up and there is no longer anything that can prevent the inevitable. Really shameful management of the football program. That's Swarbrick. Just read the comments on this Rivals site and see how many who love the school turn against one another over what is happening. That's on the BOT, Jenkins and Swarbrick. Really depressing. When the change happens, they really need to go young and someone who is very, very enthusiastic. The whole program and the way of doing business needs to be blown up and reinvigorated. Otherwise, the greatest brand in college history will be destroyed by very ignorant and short sighted people.
Denbrock has more authority now. He is the OC in fact and not just name. I am really interested in seeing what type of offense he runs unshackled from a HC who view himself as OC.
Understood. Then don't watch, and don't post until the program gets turned around. Don't want your depression getting any worse.Ugh.. I'm more depressed than ever because you make a good argument. There was so much hope after 2012 but it's clear now it was all an illusion much like 2005 & 2006 under Weis.
Believe it or not sports are entertainment for me and in no way impact my overall life. Win or lose my life remains the same. Sports are a great diversion and while I become emotionally vested for a period of time it does not impact my day to day life.Understood. Then don't watch, and don't post until the program gets turned around. Don't want your depression getting any worse.
Ara do you really believe coach Kelly wasn't calling plays?I woke up a couple hours ago to the news that Denbrock has notified ND that he's accepted the Cincinnati job. depression in regards to the state of ND football. Judging by your posts I can safely assume you have limited vocabulary skills. A person can be in a clinical state of depression or one can suffer from unhappiness regarding an event or situation.^^^ then quit posting about your "depression" over Kelly and ND.
So if you don't support coach Kelly then just need to man up?Supported ND long before Kelly was coach and will support long after he's gone too. No Kelly groupies here.
It's the start of a New Year........man up, and don't let football cause your "depression".
