College football is all about the offense. Look at the Alabama offense that won the shootout with Clemson.

The Irish are building a impenetrable WALL --- Quenton Nelson, Mike McGlinchey, Sam Mustipher, Alex Bars and SUPERFROSH--Tommy Kraemer !! Kizer/Zaire will be throwing darts to wide open receivers all day long (they will have all day to throw !!
The GREAT oline will open HUGE holes for the ND STUD running backs to run through !

The Irish will dominate oponents defense and eat up massive time on the clock--wearing out the D and resting the Irish D which will make enough plays under BVG's third year !

The Irish will average at least 38 points a game !!

Defense is not as important as it used to be ! It's all about the Offense nowadays.

The Irish only play like three true road games all fricken year !! And against crappy teams !!
Stanford and Michigan State will be at home !
This schedule is very manageable !! We should win every game !

Offense, with no defense, will not win any titles. Even a mediocre defense will help. Does anyone think for one second that the 2016 offense will earn a play-off bid with a 2015 type defense? As Hillary Clinton once proclaimed in a speech to a potential voting block....."No way, no how". The last 30 seconds of the Stanford game should be a reminder of what no defense will result in. But, that's only my opinion.

My God references of Trump and Hillary in a ND thread . We have really fallen my friends. A con man vs an extortionist. Fun times !

I think the days of the 10-10 tie played by two great teams are behind us. Bodi is right that today's college game is dominated by explosive offense, but you have to have a defense capable of making the other team's offense play mostly between the twenty yard lines, and capable of getting stops at critical times. Last year's defense did neither.

Weren't both Alabama and Clemson ranked among the Top Ten in defense last season? You have to have a defense that at least has the ability to make critical stops when needed.

Telx1, I am excited because I think the defense will be much better this year--better than last year. They don't have to be great with the Irish offense IMO.
The Dline is deep and loaded with run stoppers and we have crazy good athletes as linebackers and Dbacks ! This is BVG's third year and his D has improved from year 1 to year 2 and I think the defensive players have finally got his defense strategy down pat !
You will also see a bunch of exciting frosh players helping out on special teams and a couple getting quite a few reps on D.

*** Remember, every Irish fan wanted Bobby Diaco gone during his first two years after the Navy beatdown fiasco and the last second meltdowns to Michigan.
Bobby D. had everyone loving him after the great defense of 2012!! His third year !

Not this year. ND lose players most of offense and defenses. I think ND will be 10-3 in 2016.

Take a look at Saban and Meyer and in the ACC, Fisher and Swinney. They've all had good offenses and in the big games it was their defenses that won games. Can't win the big ones without big time defenses.

I think the Irish will have a good defense this year. Too many injuries last year.
Also the Irish took Clemson down to the last seconds--even with six turnovers at death valley. At home the Irish would have beat them.

You also said ND was going to beat Ohio State. Smoke

Ohio State will not be as good in 16. The Irish, with their huge Oline would be too much for them.
I predict Urban Meyer will have to go to the hospital after a Fred Sanford moment after the beat down Michigan will give them this year. Take it to the bank my friend !

One thing for sure...........no excuses in 2016. The schedule is just tooo EZ.

Bodi, I tend to agree about this years Defense. Not because I am in love with all our talent, but because of what the players are saying. We do have depth of run stuffers, and our linebackers are fast and athletic, and our corners look to be very good, and we can finally play a nickel defense. All upside possibilities to last year, but most encouraged to read the players saying they like the defense and they understand the defense and they are playing with more and more instinctiveness, etc...

cgvr, I see you are still cruising the gayporn sites. You must miss the gay bars in Long Island.

Nah, I just googled male cheerleaders and picked the one I thought would be you.
It appears I hit a nerve.
PS The steaks from "Scarface" were a little greasy so I am using the rest for bait.
I just wish there were some lions nearby.....

Well said Telx. We don't have the known stars like 2012 on D. But we have players with a lot of heart and toughness like Drue Tranquill--- I would go to war with Drue any day. I just hope he stays healthy and his heart and drive rubs off on Max Redfield. Max can be a helluva player if he wants to be.

I doubt Drue would like that....

Scarface and Cecil were great beasts. I hope you get eaten by a mountain lion when you are out in the wild.

Perhaps - but keep in mind there are cheerleaders just like yourself at at least half of those teams proclaiming the same as you are about their team. They just aren't going to lay down and quit. A few are just as skilled and equally well coached as ND. Some will be vastly improved on defense as well and defense still wins championships. Hoping for better but in my opinion 9-3 / 10-2 is a reasonable expectation.

Should be at least a good season with the possibility for a great season. I don't see a team on the schedule that the Irish can't beat.

Having a great offense without at least a pretty good defense will ultimately be very frustrating.

When we played Clemson early in the season in the rain ,we should have beaten especially after they scored on their first. 2 possessions , but our defense got much better after that . .Clemson had some untested players .

As far as the Alabama / Clemson championship game , Clemson was playing at a very high level and was really prepared to take on Alabama . Clemson rolled up 550 yards of offense to Alabama's 473 . I think with the way Clemson played ,no other college team would have beaten them on that day. But Alabama made some plays on defense late to win the game . It was their defensive team speed that was the difference in the end inspite of Alabama giving up 40 points .

We (Notre Dame) had a chance to show what we could do in the Fiesta especially after the 2 loses ,one a failed 2 point try and the other on last minute touchdown by Stanford. But Ohio State prevailed 44-28 and it seemed our offense just couldn't close the gap. Hard to tell if it was the Ohio State defense or the Notre Dame offense couldn't make the plays when we were only 2 touchdowns behind .

Izo, in my opinion, Ohio State had a much faster defense that we had played up to that point, and they largely dominated our offense on critical downs. Clemson had really good speed on defense as well, but the weather and playing soft with the lead mitigated this.

IMHO, when ND has had in the past a great defense, ND has a successful year. Offense wins games, defense wins championships.

Do need the defense to step up at key times especially ln the second half.

Teix1
You are right about the defensive speed . Ever since I watched favored Ohio St being demolished by Urban Meyer's Florida Gators, it seems like most (maybe) all of the teams that win the National Championship have a great deal of speed on the defensive side of the ball .

Defense is as important now as it was on November 6, 1869. At any level of play it's defense. It doesn't have to be stifling but it has to be consistent. Defense. Sooner or later it's going to come down to making a stop in the final 30 seconds or breaking up a key pass or stopping an important 3rd down short yardage run. I have no idea how the 2016 Irish defense will perform. I believe BVG and his players are working really hard to be better.

I think the Stanford loss took the wind out of ND's sails. I don't think the Irish were up for the game against Ohio State. ND would have lost anyway but it probably would have been a closer game.

*** I think the playoffs further diminished all the other bowl games (glorified exhibition games). especially for the stars who are going pro the next year.
It is playoff or bust from now on.

Bodi..........

I respectfully disagree with your statement, "It is playoff or bust from now on."

IMHO, I do not believe it's a bust if a team fails to make the playoffs. A lot of the bowl games are really interesting and a whole lot of fun to watch. They give true CFB fans an opportunity to see match ups they would otherwise most likely not get to see. And the culmination of the bowl season with the New Year's Six: the Rose, Sugar,Orange, Cotton, Fiesta, and Peach.Bowls are excellent whether they are playoff games or not. From a CFB fan's point of view it's great to go to the playoffs but it's not the end of the world if you don't make it.
