Plenty of time left. Blue gold game will shed some light. But Sam is not at all precise on throws lately. Learning system is one thing but overthrows etc are not good and hard to excuse

I have 2 questions for you to respond to

1- is this a legit QB competition ? If Tyler continues to outplay Sam, will he get the nod?

2- what do you think is going on with Sam?

A- feeling pressure of ND, learning system, knowing he has one year to impress NFL
B- This is ND not the ACC
C- blip n aberration. He will be fine
D- misses NC bbq
E- needs a new number. Ten is too drew Pyne
F- needs a girlfriend

It's definitely B, and parts of A.

I question the struggling conclusion to begin with. OF course he is going to have to figure things out
New System
New School
Completely new team and coaches
Only a moron would expect him to come in sailing along
I see nothing to be concerned with

Likely C with a bit of A. I mean honestly lots going on ...he obviously knows how to play the game and he has 4 1/2 months to work on things. In saying that if Buchner is clearly better then be starts as the team in practice will know. If it's close.....you go with Sam I think as you brought him in here....either way both will play.

New system and structure, remember when you changed jobs, it may have been in the same field but you had to learn differences.

Continuity with receivers, it doesn’t happen over night.

And let’s give some props to Buchner! He didn’t pack it in and transfer, good for him. If he cleans up the turnovers we saw in the Gator Bowl he’s a lights out QB.

Remember Hartman left Wake to escape the gimmick “slow mesh” offense. He came to ND to showcase himself in a pro-style system and improve his NFL stock. There is a chance he was a product of that gimmick system and doesn’t beat out Buchner.

New school, new team, new receivers, new OC, new QB coach are all plausible explanations that will dissipate with time. Another explanation is that he excelled in a gimmicky offense that produced most of his passing opportunities with a clear view of the field near the line of scrimmage and without behemoth DL bearing down on him. I think the later is why he needed to leave WF and get to a major program with a pro pocket passing scheme; to acclimate and to prove the NFL concerns unfounded. A couple weeks of practice in April only suggests that all of the above explanations are likely at play, and it’s too early to be concerned. Just glad to keep reading that Buchner has continued to show marked improvement and that Angeli has looked really good as well. I disagree with most here that assert Hartman will absolutely start against Navy. I think we will Start the QB that earns it, and gives us our best chance to win, but I also think Hartman’s experience will be given a lot of weight.

I definitely think you 'go with' whoever the better player is. Not just because it's fair, but why would you ever start an inferior player, or who you determined through your coaching/practice process, to be the lesser player. That's just madness, you would never do that, just because it's more convenient in some way. Especially with MF needing to have a good year this year. Can't have back to back 8-4 seasons or even worse. Occasionally you might err on the side of sticking with a veteran or a returning starter. I would just presume when this transfer was consummated, the expectation, with TR still around at the time, was that SH was going to be the starter, and that the offense would fit him perfectly well enough. But things have changed since then....

So obviously that would be a shocker if SH lost the job and then bugged out. But it could happen that he's beaten out, and then I feel like it's fair to say in that event all bets are off.....

Nothing is going on with Sam

His "poor" play is overblown. And I'm not a Hartman guy

He came in overrated by the fans. If he was really a dude, hed be in the league

Buchner is getting better

QBs need time to get used to receivers, at any school at any time.

Nothing like competition. Something ND hasn’t had at the QB position for a while. When Carr arrives, the competition will get tougher. That’s a good thing. I have no idea if Hartman is going to be named the starter or not. Obviously, Buchner has worked at getting better. At the end of the day it’s Freeman’s job to put the best players on the field that give the Irish the best chance to win. Whoever is the starter at QB in September, you can bet it’s because he earned it.

I want a quarterback who has the chops to beat Ohio State, USC, Clemson.....and ultimately Georgia or Alabama. Thats the guy I want under center.

TB has improved; but is it enough?

He has to show it in games; that he is no longer a turnover machine spraying the ball everywhere.

Hartman will adjust and figure things out. I still think he is the starter.

My lingering concern is that the best quarterbacks ultimately transfer because they aren't playing. Hope I'm wrong.

He's not. Some web sites just need clicks
Mirer, I like Hartman a ton, and I think he will figure things out and get comfortable in our offense; and I fully expect he’ll win the starting position. But he has struggled as the OP suggests, and we all better hope that what has been observed and noted are struggles, and not what we will see in August.

Drew Pyne and Ian Book beat Clemson, and Ian Book, Brandon Wimbush and DeShone Kizer defeated USC multiple times.

Alabama and Georgia? It takes way way more than QB play to win those games.

Not those teams at their best. No we haven't

Dabo Swinney and Nick Saban have proven that they will waste no time in replacing a starting quarterback temporarily or otherwise if they are convinced that the replacement will give their team a better chance to win that or any other game. And they won't wait until the game is over and the loss is logged in to do so. I did not see that with Kelly. Will have to see how that plays out with Freeman and ND.

Actually the only sources of this so called struggle are those wanting click bait or want Hartman to fail

Points of order.

1. Media saw two practices. Two.
2. Both practices featured heavy blitzes while working in new guards
3. You 2 deep at wr includes three early enrolled freshmen and a converted rb
4. New QB been with team for 3 months and is in the first third of practices before the season
5. New oc new offense, for qb
6. New QB coach

Now during these two practices there are reports that Hartman struggled under center and under pressure with over throws and bad timing.

This is not an issue. If he's struggling in August. That's an issue.

How much does anyone honestly expect him to be under center this fall.... Honestly. He's drilling his weaknesses which is a good thing

If teams blitz all the time in the fall the running game is going to feast. Remember this is practice.

He didn't forget how to throw.
He didn't lose arm strength
He's not out of shape.

He should be absolutely fine.

Two of the biggest sites that report, have little football experience outside of reporting on football and recruiting. They are the same guys that told you last year that Pyne was playing at a starters level... How does that look now?

Be patient. Trust in the process.

The best news out of spring is Buchner... Because he's drilling his weaknesses and not running...and is showing improvement. That's a big deal. The blue gold will be interesting since I think the qbs both will have red jerseys so Buchner won't be running ..
