Where were you November 20, 1993 ?? !!

The day the music died ??!!
I was in a small rental house outside MCAS New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina. My wife of five months put a blanket over me as I lay motionless on the floor after the field goal went through the uprights. I woke up in the middle of the night as a CH53 helicopter hovered above.
I have never really gotten over that loss.
Time for Payback this Saturday !! Kill the Eagles !!
You know the thing that was never discussed was the 15 yd penalty on the kickoff. If you remember, after the tackle on of the ND players on top of the ball carrier started wiggling and jiggling and the ref ran in and threw a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct. Few people even knew it and was never covered by the TV announcers. That cost the game and the future of ND football.

Not from the era, but have seen the highlights (lowlights) more than enough. Anthony Davis, I believe did a lot of damage to the Irish in the 2nd half.

Anthony Davis was much later. The 1964 game had Mike Garrett, Craig Fertig, ...

Craif Fertig. Everytime I hear that name I hit my head against the basement wall over and over repeating...why...why...why.

Well known as the greatest kickoff return man in college football history, Davis averaged 36.6 yards per kickoff. He is long remembered for scoring 11 touchdowns in three games against Notre Dame. He ran for an astonishing 6 touchdowns as a sophomore in 1972, in a 45-23 win against Notre Dame, which led USC to a Rose Bowl win over Ohio State and a National title; and 4 in the famous 55-24 comeback victory in 1974. He opened the floodgates as USC scored 55 unanswered points in 17 minutes,

I care about National Championships and the only guy who has gotten us close (in the final game as an undefeated team) since '93 is Brian Kelly.

I remember where I was.

Yes that day sucked. To the tenth power. It was like being in a haze for a long time. The comeback we had in that game taking the lead by one point to that. Not a good memory I have whatsoever. It just didn't seem like it really just happened. Deer in headlights pretty much everyone and myself.

That left a scar for sure.

I stand corrected on the personal foul call; although just because you didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

As to the schedule strength, I agree the '89 team played an incredible schedule. They also got bitch-slapped by a superior Miami team in the regular season finale. If we lost to Miami in a barn burner and didn't get the NC, I'd say we were shafted, but I think if we lost a close one to Miami we would have won the title.

As far as 93 goes, I think FSU played four top-10 teams: Miami, Florida, ND and Nebraska. I think the real argument is whether we should have dropped to #3 after losing to BC. But the week we lost that game, FSU handled Florida easily.
All I have to say is 3rd and 43.

That one play and conversion was the game. It changed the dynamic 180 degrees. We had momentum building, the canes on their heels. They punt there from the endzone...and those were always the returns Holtz set up so well.

Yep...3rd and 43

Un****ingbelievable!

Remember, that play was only possible because Devon McDonald failed to pick up the fumble on the previous play. We should have had the ball deep in Miami territory with a chance to tie, even if McDonald doesn't scoop and score. Those two plays changed the game.

Hey we were just a few miles apart !

The Jacksonville Landing and River City Brewing across the river were great places during game week
Too bad we didn't know each other then we'd go to Hooters because my sister worked there and got great deals.

What was awesome alot of times we would take our jet skis from the Jetties to the Jacksonville Landing.

Did you ever attend the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party?

They love their college football in FLA that's for sure

I was a newlywed married to a beautifull 19 year old girl from Alabama(I was 30 at the time). We didn't go out much in town but we did go to Surf city almost everynight after work and I would go for long swims to unwind and we went to Myrtle Beach alot.
I did all my partying and going out at my previous duty station Kaneohe bay in HI when I was single. Great food in HI. Great breakfasts on Sunday morning at Hickham airforce base.
