What a disgrace

Wrong. They judged others, including Christ whom they saw as a radical/revolutionary. He disdained their self-righteousness and their rigid views of Judaism. Check out the Gospel of Matthew, especially Matthew 22.

Don't lecture me. It's apparent that you have a bad case of "I'm smarter than everyone else in the room" syndrome. I'm not a Bible scholar and neither are you but I do know that Jesus came, not to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. Those are His words not mine. It's also apparent that you are going to argue and insult your way through this thread with anyone who has a different opinion than yours. This debate between two non Bible scholars is humorous.

Why are you so defensive? How did I insult you? It appears that my comments rattled you a bit. And no, I'm not lecturing you. I'm just suggesting that you educate yourself about the facts before you just spout off about things that you don't really understand. I'm not a Bible scholar, but I took several theology courses at ND (including one with a renowned New Testament scholar). One need not be a biblical scholar to do a little research to back up a claim. You made a claim about the Pharisees that is demonstrably false. I corrected you, citing relevant passages from the New Testament. Why not check them out? Are you afraid? Apparently, you would rather believe what makes you comfortable rather than what is verifiable by doing a cursory glance of some passages from the Gospel of Matthew. So feel free to believe what you want. But remember: you're entitled to your opinion, but you're not entitled to your own set of facts.

Here is the pot calling the kettle black. You have shown yourself, as Ewing very accurately points out, to be a cafeteria Catholic. Rather than conducting some inner reflection of why you are perceived that way by multiple people, you lash out and criticize others. How very very Christian of you.
You are the least christian person I've ever seen on a chat board. You're also a cry baby.

Right wingers. More labels. More insults. More disrespect. Jesus had a problem with the power and money of the Pharisees, not their law. Same would hold true today. The wars in the name of religion are all caused by man.. It's called free will. Free will in America has caused a decline in morality and spirituality but that's the price of free will. Man has caused all the problems. Not religion. All religions of any substance believe in peace and love. It's man who twists the intent. I am humbled every day by my Faith. That's my personal choice and how I choose to use my free will. Others see it different and that is their choice. I have a hard enough time trying to figure out my own faith and how I fit in so I am the last one on Earth to rule judge and jury over someone else's belief system. Of course, violent sects of all kind are a separate issue.
You cite disrespect and claim not to want to judge anyone, but then still claim that morality is declining? How is that not a judgmental statement?

With all due respect, that's your personal view, and it has everything to do with your views of politics and religion. Not everyone sees it unequivocally wrong.

Abortion has nothing to do with politics or religion. It is a physical procedure.
I know not everyone thinks it is wrong but I was wondering what some of you thought about it? (what is your stand?) Without all the political right wing/left wing footballs thrown around.
Most people aren't 100% left wing or 100% right wing.
*** If you don't want to answer that is your business----- but why even argue if you don't take a stand?

Don't pat yourself on the back. You didn't rattle me because you are one of many that sing the same tune over and over. Nothing new. You are closer to the Pharisees than you know. I'm just trying to focus on my own life as you may or may not have read. I don't care if you studied under Paul the Apostle, you are no scholar. I'm not trying to change your mind and you certainly will never change mine. Let's just leave it at that.

Everybody on here seems pretty Catholic to me.

Yea that government you speak of really helped Kate Steinle two weeks ago. You couldn't be any dumber. Playing the PC game cost a gorgeous 32-year old her life in the most liberal city in the US. You liberals are something else. Unwilling to ever admit you're wrong.

Wow, this is your best argument? Do a little research on the economic and social benefit provided by the vast majority of "illegal" immigrants. Our agricultural system in the West would crumble if all migrant workers are banned.

Obviously there are some criminals amongst those among us but that applies whether or not a person is here legally. One doesn't have to look far to find that there are a large number of mentally unbalanced individuals with easy access to firearms. The Columbine kids, the Sandy Hook elementary school shooter, the Aurora theater shooter, the Va Tech shooter--these were all Americans.

I will agree that our government has let all of down by failing to provide necessary mental health treatment and by failing to reel in the overabundance of firearms in this Country. For that, the government should be ashamed.

I personally abhor abortion and those Pro-Life or Pro-Choice are some of the most political in America talking out of both sides of their mouths. Pope Francis may be the most remarkable and enlightened man on earth and a great shot in the arm for Catholicism.

He would think you are a douche.

I also abhor abortion but at least I'm enlightened enough to know that that is my opinion and belief and I won't impose those opinions and beliefs on others.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

Edmund Burke
Such as the evil in the deaths of women from back alley abortions? A rape victim who becomes impregnated is not the evil in that equation. Not every such victim wants to carry the fetus to term regardless of the possibility of adoption.

Why impose a specified viewpoint of abortion on all people? Not all have the same religious or philosophical beliefs.

If men could get pregnant.......contraceptives would be sold like candy and abortion clinics would be as plentiful as Starbucks.....
