It seems like yesterday that our favorite pack of naysayers were droning on about our poor recruiting ranking, how few four and five stars we had in the fold, blah blah blah.

We now sit in the #4 spot, will almost definitely finish in the Top 10, and only Ohio State and Georgia currently have more four/five stars committed than we do. And we are still in it for several studs deciding at the last minute.

The old adage applies, the only recruiting ranking that ever counts is the one on the first Wednesday in February.

yes, but there are still a few weeks and in home visits to be made; lets not start pre mature chest pounding. (don't count your crystal balls before ....)

And several of the top prospects will decide soon and the rankings will drastically reorder.

AND, those of us that follow recruiting look at any class as paired with the one just prior to determine if needs or holes are filled and what positions are being upgraded and where the misses that will present problems down the line are.

Furthermore, after NLI day, when results are in then a review can be made to determine who ND gained ground on and who ND did not gain on. We think it is all about ND, but it is not.

Why don't you call out the individuals that fit your narrative rather than this broad brush whitewash bs?

In fact, find the posts that did this and address them...

I am not about to take the time to do that. Are you questioning if there were a few posters this fall that fit that description?

I'll start that process. You, CGVR, are one of those posters. In regards to finding the posts.......not difficult to do, you spew anti-BK, and anti-ND crap almost daily.

if the sky is cloudy and someone says "the sky is cloudy", but then sometime later the sun comes out, then was the sky still cloudy when the original statement was put out?

Yes. The point is, which seems to raise its head every year, that there are no split times in recruiting. The only rating or result that matters or counts is where you end up in February.

yes; agreed. But for some that follow recruiting it is like a season within a season.
The same emotions are evoked.

Interestingly, when recruiting is going well early in the process, I think fans tend to be restrained because we've all seen what can happen to a class that looks great on paper, and you know it's not over until it's over. But when recruiting appears to be going poorly (which is often hard to determine unless you are an insider) your detractors often have no such restraint. It's not like there's any penalty or sanction for them to proven wrong later.

Even if this class closes with the commitments of the recent CB's and maybe 1 more 4star, there is still the concern for the interior DL. That has been problematic for a few years. ND has servicable bodies but needs a couple difference makers on the interior in the '17 class.

Perse, that was by design. We have big numbers at DL with the kids coming off redshirts, so there were other positions that had priority. Unless a player like Gary wants to come on board. But we weren't going to take interior DL just to have numbers.

agree with tha; they were not going to take 'bodies'. They only recruited the prospects they viewed as impact possibilities.

Right now ND is 4th on Rivals and Alabama is 12th.

Does anyone in their right mind think we will finish ahead of the Crimson Tide at the end day on signing day.

With that said, I like that we will sign up some talented players.

I write accurate kelly/performance accounts and steer clear of recruiting projections.

I believe it is prudent to wait until signing day is over....

I'm questioning why you don't challenge an actual post?

If I were looking for a specific comment from one person from three months ago (and I actually knew how to do it), I might try to go back and find a specific post. If I can simply remember that there were several posts from multiple people saying the same thing about the same topic, then I'm not wasting my time doing that.

we had several discussion as to the late start the staff got a/c of the changes. ND was playing catchup. Fortunately the targets that were prime were receptive and ground was made up.

But, before anyone goes euphoric, wait till the high profile spots are filled. It ain't done yet!

(keep in mind, the guys getting us pumped are the mods on sites who are interested in membership drives!)

Yeah, we can certainly move up or down in the ratings over these last two weeks. But were are not likely to take a major step backwards. If we stopped right now this is a pretty strong class.

^ strong but as a group compared to the usual front runners ND is pursuing, ND will have lost ground.
The final spots are key.

Vanderduh! Worked out well huh?

Trying not to get dupped by the sites mods, who try to do just that.
ND fans would give a group "wtf!" if ND comes up empty on prime mentioned targets.
And that could happen, nothing is a sure thing.

Got it. I haven't seen anything lately so I was wondering where you were coming from....

PS Polian did an unbelievable job with Te'o. He was a terrific field asset....very polished/impressive.

When you get into this game with the five stars that are deciding very late you always take the risk that you get shutout. Or you may get the motherlode. Or you may bat .500, which is a very good average. That's why it behooves you to have the framework of a solid class in your pocket at least a few weeks before NSD. Then you can take the "it's all gravy" attitude at the end and not lose sleep over these late deciding kids making or breaking your class.

the glow of the recent CB's is dimming as more news and comments are received.

Seems good news can't just be good news!

there was a thread titled something like "our lack of recruiting is disturbing" or something like that. and yes "hinsight is 20/20" but that's the point, if you complain about recruiting in October, you're forgetting a lot of big name kids wait to declare.
as for NSD decisions: Te'o, Niklas, Devonte Neal (2 weeks after), St Brown & Dexter Williams last year come to mind.

as you know Brown was assumed a silent for some weeks prior. tOSU balked on DN. Niklas and Williams were big bits of cheer, but not in the catagory of the trio ND is pursuing at this point.

Unless ND strikes it rich on NLI day, this is a vg class on offense but D s again not complete.

(I say this in context of the stated Mission Statement, regardless of 'pie in the sky' attitude of that.)

I think if you went back and looked it was only like 2-3 posters that were bemoaning the status of recruiting, alot of people(over 95%) were saying wait and see whats going to happen.

I have cgvr on ignore (and some others), but I had the misfortune of reading this site away from my home computer so I had to suffer reading worthwhile posts while passing over the numerous posts of his and other ignorable posters. So glad for the ignore function. Suffice to write, I will generally avoid the site without my ignore settings.

Yeah, I wasn't seeing a lot of folks hammering the recruiting. imo It's always best to ride it out and see where the chips fall.....
