For the first time since Notre Dame's national championship victory over Mississippi State in 2018, the two teams will meet Sunday in Purcell Pavilion at 3:30 p.m. EDT. The stakes will be lower in the second round of this year's NCAA Tournament.
Third-seeded Notre Dame (26-5) made easy work of 14-seed Southern Utah on Friday in an 82-56 victory. Maddy Westbeld led the Irish with 20 points. Lauren Ebo and Sonia Citron each added 14 points.
The Irish are playing without star guard Olivia Miles (knee) for the remainder of the season. Notre Dame also lost starting guard Dara Mabrey earlier this season.
Eleventh-seeded Mississippi State (22-10) will be playing in Purcell Pavilion for the third time in five days. The Bulldogs played their way through the First Four round with a 70-56 win over Illinois on Wednesday and followed it up Friday with a 81-66 victory over 6-seed Creighton.
