… but interesting for Irish Olympic Sports fans.

Senior Irish all-everything distance runner Yared Nuguse competes at Eugene, Oreg., tonight in the 1500m final for a spot on the US Tokyo Olympic team.

NBC has television coverage beginning at 7 p.m., with the 1500m slated to begin at about 7:40 p.m.

Barring something unforeseen, this should be a four-man race competing for the three spots on the US Olympic Team.

*Nuguse set the all-time NCAA record (3:34.68) in the event on May 13 during the prelim race of the 2021 ACC Championships.

*Oregon sophomore Cole Hocker - who will be competing on his home track tonight - squeezed out a tight win on June 12 over Nuguse to claim the 2021 NCAA Championship (3:35.35) in the event.

*Matthew Centrowitz Jr., 31, won the 1500m gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. He’s running well right now. Centrowitz posted his personal best (3:30.40) at the Monaco games in 2015.

*Craig Engels (not to be confused with Patrick Engel) is the final member of the foursome to watch tonight. Engels, 27, finished fourth in the 800m and fifth at the 1500m of the 2016 US Olympic Trials, narrowly missing a team spot in both events. His PB is (3:33.64).
