I confirmed with a source that sophomore tight end Davis Sherwood was awarded a football scholarship today. Blue and Gold Illustrated first reported the news.
If you've been reading my practice observations, I've mentioned the 6-foot-3, 228-pound Sherwood's role a couple of times. He's been playing a hybrid tight end/H-back/fullback for the Irish throughout the preseason. I've been planning to ask offensive coordinator Tommy Rees about him on Saturday and we'll probably ask TEs coach Gerad Parker about him tomorrow.
This is what Parker said about him in April: "To be able to get Davis Sherwood to move and play a role in our offense has been good for us as well."
Sherwood was a two-star recruit who finished his career at Olney (Md.) Good Counsel.
