If recruiting starts to fade, ND will make a change sooner rather than later. If recruiting continues to improve or maintain current levels, Freeman will get more time.
No he won't. He will get 3 if he's this bad. Nobody deserves 5 years unless they show growth. This is not Stanford.

I agree with a lot of this, but Jack Swarbrick will have to keep his doors locked to ward off rabid and angry fans if Freeman is losing to Marshall's in year 3 and comes back. ND fans will not stand for that. I haven't seen fans this angry since Weis was in his last year and it's only Freeman's first 7 games.
I can agree with that. I just don’t have him as “legendary” due to below:
- he is 3-14 against Okie
- 9-9 against Texas, and Texas has been down for over a decade
- He is 11-8 against Baylor, who recruited at a poorer rate than Okie State for most of Gundy’s tenure
but he has taken care of business since the Big12 started to degrade
And he shouldn't be fired under 3 years. It's a fine line in CFB today of winning and losing. Unless you've got the very best talent you can't just sleep walk through any game and expect victory.
Freeman is trying to instill his culture, get his guys, all that stuff...plus getting his feet wet...

That said Freeman's fate lies with the OC. If he keeps Rees this ship will sink and it very well could be 3 years. Less if the players quit. That's hard to identify but players can/do quit on coaches. It happens.
If Freeman can beat one of, Syracuse, Clemson, USC (just one victory against those three will do)
And win the rest of the games fans will be fine.
If he loses all of them and a loss to either BC or Navy,
The sky will be falling for 9 months until kick-off 2023...
