UGA / ND

Georgia had pretty good teams under Richt. Will they be as good under Smart? We have some big unknowns. QB. Who will start? Wimbush is talented but no starting experience. New DC. New OC. We don't know what we have there and still may not by the Georgia game. See it as a toss up or a Georgia win. Hard to say after a 4 and 8 season. Georgia seems to have a good QB and running game. Not sure about the defense.

UGA defense will be strength IMO. Returning 10 starters. Offensive line will be the question and how Eason matures to year two.

I don't think we know what to expect with two new coodinators from outside the program, new TE coach, new ST coach, new receiver coach etc. We just know that we have recruited well and have a ton of experienced players returning.

We have talent. Can they execute the new scheme and show their S&C problem is past us. Pretty odd that Brian Kelly talked with a ton of the players after the season and they all mentioned S&C was a problem.

I don't disagree with a lot of this, but some of it...

1. We know Wimbush will be the starter

2. Georgia's QB is highly rated and has potential, but his stats were pretty average:
- 2,400 Yards
- 55% Comp.
- 16 TD
- 8 INT
- 6.6 YPA
ND has had 1 QB stat, 1x, under Kelly that was that low...Rees / 2013 / Comp. %

3. Georgia's run-game isn't great, though it could be if they somehow fix their OL. Georgia has had 1 great run-game year since 2010 (2014), otherwise, most of their years have been about.
The other years (including 2016) were much closer to ND's 2016 run-game than the elite Georgia run game of 2014 (or the ND 2015)

In the end, Georgia and ND both have MASSIVE questions for 2017

But, Georgia has a head-start at most positions, maybe even every position...other than along the OL and at TE

Georgia's defense has the potential to be VERY salty, though they still have steps to take.
Georgia's offense though, has major holes, and could easily hold the team back

Based on their head start and stronger defense, I would say Georgia has the edge...but I wouldn't consider it a major one

as long as Uga makes the trip

There are so many questions facing ND this season:
-Coaching Staff. We have seven new members on staff and strength & conditioning. Will Coach Kelly really take a hands off approach when it comes to the offense? Rees is very young and so is the Quarterbacks he'll be coaching. Does he have enough experience to handle the job? I hope so, but I have my doubts. I think down the road he'll be great but for 2017? Will they gel as a coaching staff on gameday? We'll know the answer to that question after the Temple game.
-Quarterback. Wimbush has a lot of talent but how will he react on gameday against Georgia and in front of 78,000 screaming fans. The game means so much to both schools. Who is his back up and will Rees have him ready if Wimbush goes down to injury?
-Offensive Line. It should be a strength but it was suppose to be last year too. We have a nice stable of running backs, but will the offensive line open holes for them? They'll have to prove it against Georgia if ND hopes to win.
-Tight End. Who will join Jones this year when ND decides to run the two tight end formation?
-The Defense. Period. We won't really know what we've got until Georgia comes calling on September 9th. pass rush(?) stopping the run(?) filling gaps(?) and pass coverage(?) All these areas must take major steps forward this season if ND is to win big games.
-Special Teams. Will Coach Polian work his magic? Let's hope so fans. Last year was beyond pathetic. My fingers and toes are crossed on this one.

Sadly ND prohibits all live anonmal mascots, shamfull!

Yet, I know for a fact that the AF Falcon has made an appearance inside the stadium. Is this rule based on a PETA thing or insurance and safety the reason for the ban I wonder? And, how long has this rule been in effect? I was really looking forward to seeing Bevo , up close and personal, a couple of years ago. It probably was my only shot to see him live , in all his historic, tradition laden glory. If the MSU and ever annoying USC band are both allowed in, then animals should be allowed in also. As a Canine-American, my yellow lab approved this message.

I don't think we know Wimbush is a given but would certainly be a surprise if someone else started. Interesting on the QB stats. Maybe we will know more after the first game. Probably a last season hangover but with all the coaching changes I don't know what to expect.

If Georgia can run the ball consistently ND will be in trouble. Not sure how good/ experienced Georgia secondary is but ND has a great group of WR/TE that will be a handful. Can Georgia control the LOS and keep the ND offense on the sideline ? Number one question.

Georgia has talent at RB, if it can ever get healthy, that would honestly make some NFL teams jealous.

It's their OL that's been an issue, and is likely to continue to be. They may send up starting 2 True Frosh on the OL....who are known among true frosh to be "talented but raw"

I think the rule has to do with the space available on the sidelines and the ability to get the animals out of harms way.

Also may have to do with the size of the poop they may make.

A falcon, is easy ... it simply perches on a person's arm or something set up over near the fans. And the pope would be no worse off than wild birds that fly over the stadium. I do remember the AFA falcon being in ND stadium during the several ND - AFA games I've attended.

IMO Georgia probably has more talent, but this game is early and in South Bend. I think it's a toss up. If Georgia can run the ball and hit their stud TE Nauta a few times to keep NDs back end honest, it will be a long night for the Irish.

Maybe, maybe not, Georgia's defense can be stymie. They didn't give up a first down to Auburn, a team who went to the sugar bowl, in the second half of their game last year. This should be a great match up.

Right, like their opening week win against North Carolina in the chik-fil-a kick off game last year or their 2014 week 1 win over Clemson.

Auburn went to the Sugar Bowl by default.
