These are the same guys that were freshman on the 2012 team. They played better then than they are now.
seriously... you fools who keep blaming the coaches are ignorant. he has no good players, outside of Russell, and even he struggled this season. redfield is one of the biggest busts we have ever had, guy bites on ever play and has no coverage skills but was supposed to be a big 5 star recruit.
add Vangorder to that list. Unless ND pays some great DC 2-3 mil/year they can't win at the next level. If vangorder is back next season we'll have same results again 10-2 type of season. Where we lose to anyone of significance and beat lesser competition like Wake, BC and so on.
we also had a better front 7 and a couple additional kids in the secondary that were better, but the front seven was the key. you people need to learn how to play the game before thinking the coaches can make miracles with kids who have average talent.
So they come in as 5* and regress. You say we have no talent and hold coaches to no responsibility because they bite and are out of position? You, sir, are funny.
Why do you guys think they are recruiting so many defensive backs? It is apparent that there is a need for an upgrade. Plus, our best corner was out with injury. Shumate is a great run stopper but struggles at times in coverage. Redfield is still learning but improving. Really hope that Tranquill gets healthy for next season.
We recruit so many because we don't land many. We've been short on DBs for years. We've wiffed on many. Darby, T.Shepherd, etc. Every kid we have was decently rated. Funny how teams like MSU just get lucky.

The one area on the last two teams where ND did not get any 'over-achievers". Maybe Tranquill--but too injury prone. If we had a secondary that played like-----CJ & Josh-----we'd be in Playoffs. I do NOT blame Lyght. BVG---maybe. Let's see Todd RECRUIT.
