Kelly and Swarbrick both need to go.

So sick of incompetence at both the AD (coaching picker/enabler) and football coaching positions.

How many big bowl game performances like this do we tolerate? Answer none any more!!!!

I personally won't pay for another ticket at ND until they once again make a serious commitment to winning at the highest level again.

No more playing players like Joe Schmidt who can't play and cost us playoff spots. No more hiring d coordinators who are not competent but get the job because they are within your coaching tree. No more teams coming out flat and barely winning against average teams (when they do win) and/or getting blown out when playing a competent program with similar talent.

No more excuses about weather, academics, injuries, etc.

Excellence will only be tolerated! No more victory laps for 3 plus loss seasons with we'll get em next year mantras from all the enablers.

Time for a change!

The silence from all the Kelly enablers is deafening.

Of course a couple of them are lurking around saying our kids are not as strong and that's not on the coach. Of course ND has no food and weights as we're disadvantaged there also just like our academics are a liability too as getting smart and disciplined people is a liability and not an asset.

well, if Jack is truly of the opinion that the program still operates with the mission statement that the goal is a NC, AND he is convinced he has the HC to accomplish that, then some might agree that Jack is a part of the problem.
Six full seasons has passed.
You will not be a relevant on the national level unless there are some concessions made to the football program in order to accomplish that.

Jack is a Pat Haden.....impeccably dressed, says all the PC things, but an empty suit that makes dumb decisions.

Love how Kelly in year 6 is still making excuses to half time interviewers.

Sucks being a fan in this era of ND......would have been nice to been a fan during the Leahy, and Parseghian era's when we were smart and kicked butt instead of getting constantly outdone by smarter regimes.

Still early. Get a stop put up 7 and watch Meyer sh** himself.

osu can be nailed... They're ripe.

I'll take 8-10 win seasons year in,year out, anytime. It's alot better than what we've had in decades.

JS and BK have been great for ND football. A 10-3 season with all the injuries is damn good. Kelly does need to fix the defense or we'll always fall short of Being a credible NC contender.

Good post agree completely. The Defensive issues start with recruiting," you can manufacture offense but you have to recruit defense" Brian Kelly

Just be happy at where ND is at. This is the best ND can do under their self imposed restrictions. Winning big in football is not the most important thing in life. o_O

Let's see:

10-3
Undefeated at home
Played probably the second best team in the country without...
Our starting safety, two starting cornerbacks, our best player at linebacker, our best player at d-line
Lost to the the #1 team by a conversation, the #5 team in the last 30 seconds, and (probably) the #4 team in a game where we were depleted.
Remember our QB is a freshman
Remember our RB is a freshman

People want to start over? With whom? Who will come to ND? You want Stoops -- got his ass handed to him last night (and he HAS no academic requirements and juncos.) Urbie? He turned us down.

Unlike USC, OSU, Ala, our kids have to go to class, we have no junior college transfers -- and yet we were in every game until the last play (and this one until the last quarter.)

Kelly got us to a national championship game. Yes we got beat but he got us there. We were ranked in the top ten much of the year with a freshman qb and a depleted defense and offense.

I'm an alum who was in the stands in our last two National Championship games... and I haven't felt this optimistic since '93 (Holtz lost me his last few years, to be honest.)

Our special teams sucked today -- we need a better kicker on kickoffs (he's kicking linedrives, they had the ball over the 35 three times and we had the ball inside the 15 three times.)

Our defensive scheme is just not working. Once again (see Clemson, see Stanford) we start the game down two TD's. Terrible prep. Sorry, BVG must go. Offer the Dave Aranda of Wisky the bank. We need youth and excitement and personality. And someone who can recruit!!!

I agree that almost all on this board, whether they admit it or not, would have taken 10-3 and been happy with it. Most were saying we'd be lucky to get 8 or 9 wins..........This team fought hard for their coach and for one another..........Keep this recruiting class together and add a few more of the 4 and 5 stars we are after and we have the depth that was sorely tested this year.

Losing Jaylon was painful to see and I really feel for him and wonder what he does now. When we lost Tevon almost right after his injury, it was like last man in instead of next man in on defense. The change I see is that in Coach Kelly's first few years, the team seemed to hang its head when things got tough. I think the last two years have shown that this team is getting a mental toughness that will only get stronger.

I'm disappointed today but not like I was with the previous coaches when the cupboards seemed bare.

Stanford is crushing. We will have lost to three of the top five teams in the nation when the final polls come out. And THAT after losing our starting QB and our two starting RBs. (And, our starting Nose tackle.) Get over yourselves fellas. I'm disappointed too, but our program is going in the right direction.

I think there are far more concessions made to the football program than any ND fan would ever admit to. Basically, I'd say of the 85 guys on scholarship, about 15 could get in to ND if they weren't players and that might be generous.

Wow, you really are a bottom feeding, obtuse, ignorant chode.. Why don't you turn on your television set and hear commentators and coaches talk about the incredible job Brian Kelly did despite injuries and how loaded ND will be next year.

But hey let's take the advice of some developmentally disabled dimwit on a message board. Good Night and welcome to ignore

ND will be LOADED until they kick a whole bunch of players off the team for rule violations, kids who will transfer, and then all the injuries. :(

Swarbrick has always said that it's important for ND's sports programs to compete for NC's. He didn't set the bar at winning NC's, and so far most of the sports programs, including football, have met that expectation. The only program under his tenure that I can think of that hasn't excelled is baseball. Men's and women's programs have excelled in basketball, soccer, lacrosse, hockey, and yes, football. This is one of the best eras in ND sports history... oh, and we excel athletically while at the same time win championships in student-athlete graduation rates. To think Swarbrick should be fired or is part of some overall problem is missing the big picture.

You my friend have a loser mentality. You will be happy with 8 win season at times? I guess its good strategy not to ever feel depressed after a loss.

A trend I might add that was started under the often maligned Kevin White.

stu

DIP and I had an exchange and noted that Kelly teams are now 0-4 in major bowl games by combined score of 157-73

Now, I think at ND he is doing a very good job but discussion of greatness is very exaggerated or pre-mature.
His immediate future will be determined by thiis current recruiting class.
If he holds the class together while closing it strong with key defenders, he might yet succeed; but if not then disappointing seasons lie ahead.

Of course the 'voices' will be dispensed to cover up the defeat and throw kids under the bus or cite excuses. That has been the constant game plan.

Let's predict next year's excuses now.....
*Hard to win without Joe Schmidt who was our leader in-spite of never making a play except when a ball fell in his lap today.
*injuries!!! After all football is a soft game and no other team has injuries and therefore don't pro forma for them in six years of player personnel recruiting. No other team ever has injuries to deal with just coach Kelly.
*Tough schedule! Nd has never played a tough schedule before in spite of a century of having done so.
*Our QB play with rotating qb's predictably didn't work. Maybe we should have just stayed with Kizer???
*ND doesn't have the resources with nearly $80MM in annual Football revenues, a national tv contract, private planes to recruit with, a weekly showtime series, a state of the art facility and the largest brand in college football that runs coast to coast.
*It's hard to play army and navy in back to back games and expect to win them both!
*Once again losing Joe Schmidt and his 40 missed tackles a season was hard to overcome! But there is always someone else that has no right to be on the field that Kelly will play regardless of game after game of poor performances. Whether it's Tommy Rees, Cam McDaniel, Calo Calabrese, Austin Colinsworth Kelly will find them and play them repetitively as he is such a great coach who can win playing 10 vs 11. Meanwhile players that do have talent get quickly in his doghouse and benched when they don't perform to his level (see Brian Smith, Greg Bryant, Max Redfield, etc)....so glad there is not a double standard with Brian Kelly. He never leaves me questioning what the hell he is doing. Of course how can I judge a coach with no major bowl game wins in 6 full seasons? After all we're Vanderbilt and not ND!!!

Vinny Cerrato as the AD (used to be the head of our recruiting efforts under Holtz)
Pick 10 Stud coaches reach out to them for interest....3-5 express interest back and hire one of them:

Various stud coaches with huge egos who would like to add to their repertoire as the man who rebuilt ND might include:
Pete Carroll
Urban Meyer
Nick Saban
Jim Harbaugh
Chip Kelly
Sean Payton
Bill Bellichick
David Shaw (won two Rose Bowls while Kelly's won nothing...physical pro style of play that gives the other team injuries instead of always us)

Don't experiment on a mid-major coach and make ND his next job as that is too risky.

Give them a lofty five year contract.

Of course now say ND can't get any of them as we're only one of the three most famous brands in sports with the Yankees and Cowboys being the others. We should instead lower the bar and keep Kelly with lower expectations and should also believe the ESPN hating talking points that no one ever wants to coach at ND even though Saban expressed an interest before taking the Alabama job.

The Jimmy Carter/Obama era of constant excuses and lower expectations needs to end and it needs to end now.

Otherwise we'll continue to be the punchline of all the espn talking heads for years to come still and our brand will diminish.

"....our brand will diminish"
No it won't. ND is the second most valuable college football team and it will continue to be one the most valuable teams regardless who's coach. Hiring Urban Meyer,Nick Saban or any of the others does not add any value to the ND brand. Possibly getting 1 or 2 more wins every couple of seasons would justify the cost associated with hiring any of these guys. As I posted earlier, the ND administration and the vast majority of ND fans are satisfied with 8-10 win seasons year and a bowl game, along with being in contention for the playoffs every couple of years.
Let's be honest...ND hasn't won a NC in almost 3 decades and it's much harder now than it was in the Holtz,Devine or Parseghian era's.

You really think any of those guys is realistically coming to ND? Man, you are delusional. Not one of those guys is coming to ND. The fact that you believe that any of them would come to ND shows how out of touch you are.
And for the life of me, I can't understand why posters like you keep injecting politics into an apolitical issue. If you think any of us cares about what your poitical views are, you are mistaken.

Excellence will only be tolerated! No more victory laps for 3 plus loss seasons with we'll get em next year mantras from all the enablers.

Time for a change!

I suggest you follow another team. Your post makes zero sense!
