I think 78 did and a few others. I am really interested in your experience. Your travel to the game and back home. Was this worse than last year at Clemson from an attendee point of view? Did you guys make it all the way through the game? Was anyone tailgating? Finally, your thoughts on the game itself. It did not look fun. Do you feel the game should have been cancelled?

I was there. I have sat through some bad weather games. 1987 Penn St., 1993 Purdue and last year's Clemson game come to mind. In my estimation, yesterday's game was the worst of all of them. I don't know that it necessarily rained harder yesterday than last year's Clemson game, but the wind was a lot worse. The wind yesterday just kept blowing that stinging rain in your face. It was miserable.
Last year's Clemson game was packed. For yesterday's game, the stadium was well less than half filled when the game started. It was simply an awful day to stay outside. Sad to say, I did not make it to the end of the game.
We had the good fortune to park inside a covered garage. We kept nice and dry in there. When we stepped outside to go to the game, we were soaked through in about a minute.
I saw no real tailgating. I'm sure that was a result of the weather. Did not meet a whole lot of NCSU fans, but those we did meet seemed pretty cool. Several welcomed our group to Carter Finley and told us how happy they were to have ND come to Raleigh. Game was terrible too. Don't understand why we didn't try to pound the ball on the ground. With the wind blowing like it was, every pass was going to be an adventure. Yet we tried to pass first and run second.
I would like to attend a game there under different circumstances---and with a different result.

I thought it was worse than the Clemson game (I attended that game, too). The wind compounded the weather problems since the rain stung as it struck your face. Just miserable weather---to go along with the game.

Thanks guys for your take on the experience of attending yesterday's game. Glad everyone made it home safely.

I was there in Raleigh on Saturday but I did not attend the Clemson game last year. All I can say is that, as bad as it looked on TV, it was much worse being there in those conditions. For the fans, at least for us and those around us, it was more about who could survive in the stands the longest rather than watching a game. By far the worst weather conditions of any sporting event I've attended. We made it to the lightning delay at halftime then decided to go to a nearby bar/restaurant and watch the 2nd half. I would like to go back under better conditions and really see what a typical NCSU game day experience is like.

Do you all feel the game should have been cancelled or somehow rescheduled?
I was not there, but regardless I think it should have been played.

It wasn't a safety issue. Maybe drowning at some point...hahahaha
However elements are part of the game ...extreme or not.

It sucked just as bad for the opposing team and guess what...I bet that the winning team if you ask them a majority of their players had so much fun playing in shit.

of course the game should have been cxld!
this was about the Benjamins!
Player and fan safety was not even a consideration.

If the game was played in sunny weather it would have been a barn burner exciting game.
jmo: these 2 teams would split a 10 game series.

Well, I was looking at the angle of fan safety, namely safe travel to and from the game. Families on the road during that brutal weather. As far as the players, I would really love to hear their opinion (off the record) with losing not part of the equation in their answer.

Postponing the game, even to Saturday evening, would have made it easier on the players (provided the stadium turf had adequate drainage). But there were power outages and flooding issues in that area on Saturday night so that would have made the situation worse with regards to fans traveling safely.

Perhaps, but I for one would not have been happy to fly to Raleigh and then told the game was cancelled or rescheduled for another day once I arrived.

I was at both games, and this was light years worse than the Clemson game. The only saving grace in both instances was that it wasn't cold. You want misery? At Penn State in 1985, pouring rain all night, temps in the high 30's to low 40's. And we get blown out something like 38-6. That is misery. Got back to the hotel after that game, filled up the tub with hot water and just laid in it to try and get my body temp back to normal.

Without having the benefit of statistics during the game, it occurred to me that we lost the game simply on first down. We had so many zero, negative or just poor plays on first down, we were always fighting the chains. We have first and goal at the six, we get a penalty on first down back the the 11. We get a first down in the red zone at the end, ESB drops an easy pass. It was just second and long all afternoon it seemed. I liked the fact that we threw the ball early to get them out of the box, but we then seemed to fall in love with the pass way too much. Receivers couldn't plant or cut down the field, so it was just about impossible to get any separation, and as the ball got more waterlogged even the simple short passes were a challenge. At one point in the second half we finally strung two good runs together for a first down, and Kizer fumbles at the end. That was a killer sequence.

I also found it curious that a team with a strong running QB, who runs quite often, was almost at the end of the first half before we had a called QB run. The extra blocker you get on a QB run could have been huge in these conditions, and we just omitted it from the offense. I could not understand that at all.

Needless to say, a very frustrating day to watch a game in person. On multiple fronts.

IMHO, they should have done the same thing that South Carolina did. NC State, Duke and UNC all had home games on Saturday afternoon, they all should have been moved to Sunday, and played early, like 10:00a to noon.. The weather could not have been any nicer on Sunday, they could have kept the fields covered all day on Saturday, and you would have had normal games played in safe conditions.

After the game it took us an hour to get back to our hotel because we had to re-route around flooding roads constantly. Then we get back and the hotel has no power and the lobby is flooding. Took a shower using the flashlight on my cell phone. We asked around and found out that the Marriott where ND had been staying had power and they were up on a hill, so we went there. Sat at the bar for around five hours watching games, waiting for our hotel power to come back on.

Did a little followup investigation. We lined up on first down a total of 24 times in the game. On 14 of the 24, 58%, we had a negative or zero yardage play, including one critical five yard penalty on first and goal at the six. At one point we had five consecutive negative or zero yardage plays on first down. We also had similar streaks of 4 and 3 plays. We finished the game with a streak of four, including the huge drop by ESB on first and 10 from the NC State 18 on the final drive. Our total aggregate yardage on the 24 first down plays was 27 yards, including the five yard penalty. That's where this game was lost.

This was mentioned yesterday on SportsBeat. The ACC decided to play the game which meant you had first responders at the game when they could have been out assisting and helping with residents affected by the hurricane. When I heard this it made sense to me.

the comment about the football games and the pull of potential 1st responders assigned to the game is a matter that deserves to be discussed by government officials!

Playing those games was totally irresponsible and those who were charged with public safety rolled the dice with lives as the ante! They were derelict in their duty to the safeguard public!

Two thumbs down!

I know ND offered to either play the game on Sunday or move the game to South Bend. That game should have not been played in those conditions.

We offered to play on Sunday as long as the game started no later than noon.
