Well people on here have said that ND makes all the football players take calculus, a foreign language, and who knows what else. I would make all that stuff optional. Those things are probably too mentally taxing on most of the players, considering the amount of physical and mental energy playing football takes.
There are so few people who are large top notch athletes and whom are also gifted intellectually in many different areas. How many football players have gone on to win Nobel or Pulitzer prizes, compose some famous symphony, or direct an Oscar winning film ???
If I was ND, I would construct a Football Major, that had courses in all things related to Football. Things like offensive/defensive/special teams styles, strategies and formations, sports psychology and motivation, fundamentals and drills, video analysis, the history of football, the business of football etc.
The idea is that people who would take this program, whether ND players or not, would be interested in coaching football or something related to football as a career. There could be a co-op program with local high school football teams in South Bend.
Another thing is ND should be getting neutral referees for their games if such a thing exists.
