As for MSU and Michigan this year, the fact that MSU has played so poorly against average competition and that much less athletic ND teams beat MSU 3 of the last 4 hints to the fact that ND would handle MSU. Michigan? Are they so much better that they could make up 31-37 points? I don't think so.

This maybe the luckiest Michigan St. team that Dantoni has had in a while, but their schedule has been pretty easy. They struggled to beat a depleted Rutgers team and a bad Purdue team.
As for Michigan their talent level overall isn't there yet, but they have an outstanding coaching staff. Notre Dame would have killed everyone Michigan played this year too. ND would still beat both of these teams.

I have a feeling that our irish also would have given both Michigan and Michigan st troubles. would have loved to seen a fuller vs peppers matchup
I wish ND was still playing Michigan. It was a big rivalry that made college football great and I think it made a strong impression on recruits when ND beats them. Especially the midwestern recruits.

If your AD hadn't backed out of this years game, you would have had your wish. Fortunately he found a pitiful Texas team to take UM's spot.
If I had to choose one of the two (UM or MSU) I would choose MSU hands down. MSU gives credit to ND for playing them when the B10 didn't accept them. UM tried to blackball ND and the Irish had to go outside of its comfort zone and start scheduling national opponents - the rest is history. I could care less to get UM back on the sked but would like to see State back on.
I like ND playing both Michigan and MSU, but you're kidding yourself if you think ND would not be expected to beat both and likely would by a decent margin.

How about if we had not lost the starting DL Jones, OB, RB and starting TE for the year. Keep these and I like the Irish chances.
They might meet in the playoffs. MSU could be a team of destiny this year after that crazy game.
