Will be the team that is most physical, executes best and has the fewest mental errors. It's been that way since the game was invented.

Talk of Brian Kelly's energy at a Tuesday Press Conference, East Coast to West Coast travel or who is injuried and not playing is irrelevant and message board "noise" & "clutter"

23 years coaching from Grade School to NAIA has taught me nothing matters except what's going on inside the hearts and minds of the men inside that locker room.

There's no back door exits in a locker room and if you haven't coached and or played the game, you'll never understand what that means in one million years.

ND has earned the opportunity tonight. Embrace the challege, embrace the fight and play with great selflessness and enthusiasm. Destiny awaits. Go get them IRISH!!!!

Agree - execution and fundamentals will matter the most in this game. That's what has made Jim Harbaugh so successful at every place he coaches. I am in no way a UM fan but I am a fan of JH's coaching success.

Well, I would say that having you on the sideline coaching versus say Bill Belichick matters, but that's just me. Then there's the refs and how they are going the allow the game to be played ....among other things....

However, thanks for the insight as I don't doubt your admission to having had no impact on a game throughout your 23 year career.

One can only imagine that Charleston Southern would have won versus Alabama if their hearts and minds were in a better place. Yep, nothing else matters.....

Thanks for the chuckles..... PS. Do you really think your closing sappy pep talk is going to make it to the team? Holy hannah, you are barking at the wind.

Does anybody know what is wrong with this cgvr guy? Why is he such a negative, no-fun buzzkill?

Honestly this message board could be an awesome place. What happened to you in life that made you like this?

I thought the same thing. He would probably tell the bride at a wedding she was fat. Killjoy is right.

I'm not sure what he posted but try the ignore feature it works wonders blocking out "noise" and "useless clutter". Lol!!!! Go Irish!!!

cgvr, are you trying to make a comparison that ND vs. Stanford is talent-wise the same as Charleston Southern vs. Alabama? Why even make such a statement when it's obvious to everyone that ND and Stanford are fairly evenly matched talent-wise with ND likely holding an edge on them in that department.

Maybe you are one of the people that the OP described as "you'll never understand what that means in one million years."

Yep......after playing & coaching all that is left for us ND fans is message board noise & clutter........thanks for noticing!

BEAT da trees!!!!

Actually, it's about enjoying the game and a great season. 8 years ago ND rolled into Palo Alto 2-9. Two talented and well coached evenly matched teams will decide the game between the white lines tonight.

The obsession with officiating, travel schedules or any other "noise" is meaningless and commonly a topic for individuals whom have never stepped between the white lines a day in their life.

I can assure you ND is focused on Stanford. Not trying to predict how officials may or may not call the game or worrying about jet lag,

But keep up the posts I haven't laughed this hard in years!!! LOL!!!!

I know exactly what is going on. No battle plan survives first contact and the coaching staffs have tremendous impact on any games outcome. They will be making adjustments throughout.
The following is a tremendously ignorant remark. It is just plain stupid.
"23 years coaching from Grade School to NAIA has taught me nothing matters except what's going on inside the hearts and minds of the men inside that locker room."
Let's say both teams have equal talent and what is going on in the players hearts and mind is also equal. Which of the following 2 teams will win:
A the team coached by Belichick or
B the team coached by the guy with 23 years coaching nobody.

The suggestion that nothing else matters other than the hearts and minds of players is dumb.... There is going to be a flow of strategic decisions made throughout this game on both sides. If all that mattered was heart Schmidt would be up for Heisman.
PS the sisboombah speech was hysterical.

Guess I focused more on the 'execution and fundamentals' part of the post. The 'heart and mental' seems to be your focus. While both are important, I will take the execution and fundamentals any day. However, I really do not see a lot of separation between the two - they compliment each other for the most part.

There's nothing like some dunce lecturing folks and using the crucible of crap tier football as his crutch. The post was ignorant and the piss poor attempt at a "Rockne" speech directed at no one was demented.

"Embrace the challege, embrace the fight and play with great selflessness and enthusiasm. Destiny awaits."

How inspiring! How profound! I just hope Bodi put his helmet on before headbutting the fridge.

Seriously, who the f is that message for? It's unhinged.

Crickets....

This young boy has come unhinged and turned himself into a "vulgar purple faced gnome". How deliciously ironic is that? Bwahhhhhh!!!!

Your football acumen is still zero but you sure are a funny little fellow :)

Can you lead the team pep rally? You are very inspiring! Thanks for the continued chuckles. How is it possible for you to be a coach? You lack the simple discipline of keeping me on ignore....How long did that last? Hahaha 23 years of wallowing in no name football scores you zero points.... sisboombah!!!!!

FL Ball Coach, what are your actual thoughts on tonights game?

I think ND lacks discipline on the defensive side of the ball (not even including the trick plays) and will struggle to stop Stanford on the ground. They'll try to blitz, but it won't help much.

Not being a debbie downer either as I think the offense will score a good amount too. What do you think?

Thanks for the,question 44!!!

BVG is a way better coach than me. My guess is that he will employ a similar strategy to last season. Mix the fronts up using 40 Over/Under and some pressure Bear looks. Get both safeties involved on run downs and in other words try and make Hogan win the game with his arm. If safties are down corners have no help. Concern with Russell out. ND Zone Blitz scheme has been efficient on 3rd down. ND is a Top 15 Defense on 3rd Down.

The key elements to look for are 3rd Down Defense and explosion plays. If ND grades well in those areas. They've got a shot to slow Stanford. <24 -27 points.

This off couse is contingent upon the offense protecting the ball and Special Teams not giving up field position because of a bust in the kicking game.

BVG was an NFL Coordinator and so was David Shaw. It will be interesting.

C'mon cgvr, no need to resort to name calling. He more than likely is a real FB coach...I like having coaches on this board. I remember how well respected 'Coach D' was on here (now with I.I. as Brian Dryskel). For someone with the sense of humor you have, you sure can get your panties in a wad on short notice.
