The sound of Swarbrick's silence

Why hasn't Jack Swarbrick publicly endorsed BK since Saturday?

He already said BK was coming back. So why would he need to say it again?
He doesn't need to say anything if nothing has changed. If there are all sorts of internal gyrations going on behind the scenes regarding Kelly, new coach, etc., history has shown that he's not going to say anything until there's something concrete and meaningful to say. I wouldn't interpret his current silence to mean much of anything.

these are the truly DARK DAYS!

btw:
with commit Hicks on the fence, there was no effort by staff to visit him; CB has been made to UM. ND is throwing in the towel. Kaindoh, once a ND CB who was thought to have ND as second is now looking like it's PSU. A committed 4* is checking tOSU after visiting there this weekend; Plan A targets are fawgetaboutit! same with plan B; and plan C? is there even one?

Pat Forde cited "plural" sources that Kelly's reps are looking outside of Notre Dame for other options. They can't do that without his knowledge and consent. That simple fact alone has moved this situation along. It is likely in the realm of contract stipulations...and contradictions thereof. He has denied that he (personally) is looking...but he hasn't denied that others are acting on his behalf.

This activity should alone be irreconcilable.

We just had the NCAA's "hammer of Thor" thrown at us and he is cowering.

I think he is out shopping and looking to replace his Kate Spade frames.

It seems to me the most likely explanation is that Kelly's tenure is being debated within the administration and BOT. My gut (heart) tells me there is enough concern being expressed by the major donors and the BOT is listening and wants to make a change, and Jack is defending his decision to keep Kelly. Have to believe this will be resolved one way or another today or within a few days and there will be a formal announcement, even if the decision is Kelly returns. As the OP states, the silence is deafening.

I truly think the only way Kelly doesn't coach here next year would be if he takes another job. This year was a failure of our football program of Biblical proportions. I doubt any other program would want him after the mess he created this season. He needs a big season next year to show that he hasn't lost it. I think he would also want to coach here with all the new features being dedicated around ND Stadium. We might as well and suck it up Irish fans; I'm afraid we have him for one more year or longer.

My thought is that he is remaining out West while his attorneys work out details. Once he returns, a team meeting will occur, you should hear right after that. The reason for the delay is he is not quitting, he will have to be terminated. That's just in Kelly's best interest. How soon they announce another coach after that remains to be seen. They may let the coach finish his season and let recruiting wait, or have something in place. I still think the Board of Directors may have had a lead in this. There's a lot going on and a lot to account for by a number of people. This is just speculation on my part, but makes perfect sense given the situation.

Again, we see programs like Texas and LSU take quick and decisive action when their coach fails. ND meanders along; contemplating, discussing and evaluating. A school that cared at all about their program would already have been talking to other coaches weeks or months ago. They would have pulled the trigger the minute the game was over so the new coach could contact recruits.

I'd be glad if some other team took him off our hands, but unfortunately, I doubt he's in very high demand at the moment, after going 4-8 with a team that was preseason top 10.

Well i dont know whats gonna happen. I do find it interesting Kelly's name gets thrown out prior to Sc, for LSU. That quickly died down. Then the leak that he's looking around. Him back tracking saying he's fully committed to coming back. I just dont see how any university let alone ND. Deal with so much negative press under a coach? It's like a bad soap opera. You just cant stop watching.

I can't imagine Kelly is going to land a job at a big time program after this season which is why I have doubts about the speculation he is going to leave for another job.

I could see a place like Baylor but not LSU.

This is a crossroad for ND university and how the football team is viewed within the institution.
A sad end to a fabled program.

well, I guess your not one of the ole farts and ND was something special all our lives, so yea, it is a dramatic fall and huge disappointment. So yep, guilty as charged! Losing becomes you.

I am an old fart, and am in year 40 of the 40 year decision. But I have lived through the death of ND football known as the Faust era, lived through the death of ND football known as Tyrone Willingham, and will live through the death of ND football known as Brian Kelly/2016. In every case we have survived and prospered, at least to some extent, and we will do the same here. Of that I have no doubt.

then you fail to see that college football is not what it was during prior 'comeback'; and clearly ND no longer has 'the chest' for all in!

What has been the longest competitive dry spell in ND's post Rockne years?

Gotta agree with Perse. Followed ND since I was 6. It has never been this much of a mess with Faust,Weis and Willingham included. Brian Kelly has created this mess with failures to coach up the special teams, not closing on great d-linemen,and stubborness to adapt and prepare for teams. Will ND ever get back to greatness with Kelly at the helm? Quote the raven"Never more".

It sounds like you think Kelly should be gone?

Yes, I think a change is needed. ND is a job at which every coach, from most successful to least successful, has hit a wall, either personally or program wise. I think Kelly has hit that wall. You played 8 close games, games decided on the last possession, and went 1-7 in those games. And even in the one you won, you blew a 20-0 lead. That tells me something is amiss. I am reluctant to judge any program on a single year, but this was that bad of a year.

That said, I won't be suicidal if Kelly comes back. And I wouldn't be shocked if he came back and went 9-3 or 10-2. We have a lot of talent on this roster. Light on the DL, but in pretty good shape everywhere else. Get a stud DC who switches us to a 3-4, which better matches our recruiting tendencies, and this team can be good, maybe very good. But my preference would be for new blood at the top.

We can speculate all we want. Here is the reality. Kelly is still the ND coach. Personally for me, he had a bad year. I'm not happy about it but these things happen. The bigger issue is everything else that had happened while he is the coach. Yet ND retains him. The word integrity or lack thereof seems to be the biggest issue. Not only with Brian Kelly, but also with the university administration that appears to turn a blind eye. Perception becomes reality. Right now perception is that ND says one thing but does another. Very sad if you are an Irish fan. I hope they do the right thing and get control and get back to integrity and striving for excellence in athletics and academics.

Niumatalolo -- Navy
Fleck -- WMU
McIntyre -- CU
Petersen -- UW
Rhule -- Temple
Stoops -- OU
Saban -- 'Bama
Kiffin -- 'Bama
Bohl -- Wyoming
Chryst -- Wisconsin

Any others?

Hmm... the piece of the puzzle that is interesting to me is that BK has been looking around (according to multiple sources...) Could it be that JS has a deal in the works with Fleck who has said he won't comment until after their championship this weekend?

The plot thickens.

Wow, just do us all a favor and have bleach cocktail. The sun may not come up tomorrow because the football team has been a huge disappointment??

It was very impressive how Texas avoided a long drawn out hiring process by firing and hiring on the same day. The only thing bad about it was the way they treated Strong the week of his last game.

I would hope Swarbrick would have the transition in motion before publicly announcing a firing instead of setting off weeks of talk radio garbage and other coaches using the situation as leverage to get more money.
