I'm like most fans who admired Golson when he was a top-5 Heisman candidate, screamed at the TV when he had the second half season meltdown, and supported him to come back, yet I am somehow relieved that there's clarity at the QB position (but with HUGE question marks about Kizer's readiness to play, should it be needed). I want him to succeed wherever he goes, and I do think that FSU would be a very good place for his development (academic jokes aside).
Fisher gets excellent play out of his QBs, and one year in a pro-style, simplified offense could really help him at the next level, but for that same reason I think that if he were to succeed there it could really affect us in future QB head-to-head recruiting battles. Jimbo would be able to say "look at what he did playing for me VS ND". We've already lost TWO QB recruiting battles to them (Deondre Francois and Malik Henry), and now with ND playing more of an ACC schedule, and with FSU's recent success, these recruiting battles will only increase.
As for Texas, it would make an AWESOME story for him to open next season at ND, and I actually would prefer he go there. Texas is not good enough to beat us, and although Golson would be super motivated, he couldn't beat us by himself. Charlie Strong is very well respected and would continue to mold his character. I actually see a lot of similarities in Golson's play to Terry Bridgewatwer, whom he coached at Louisville.
