Gordo (Ala.) High five-star linebacker Ben Davis took an official visit to Notre Dame this past weekend and left campus with the Irish in his top three along with Alabama and Georgia. While the Crimson Tide legacy remains a heavy favorite to ink with an SEC school, the Irish aren't giving up on the nation's top ranked inside linebacker, and they appear to be gaining some traction in the recruitment.

Irish assistant coaches Autry Denson and Mike Elston both attended his Davis' basketball practice on Wednesday, and talked with the family afterwards. The conversations were good according to Davis' father.

"Ben wanted to see [Notre Dame] for himself and his relationship with Coach Denson and Coach Elston seems to be growing," Wayne Davis said.

"It's going to be interesting to see where he lands," he quickly added.

While that sounds promising, still Alabama looks to be the pick, although Blue & Gold Illustrated has been told by some in South Bend that they think Davis likes Notre Dame a little bit more than what he reveals on record.

"There's no doubt that Notre Dame is in Ben's top three," Wayne Davis said. "We're seriously considering them and exploring them these last couple of weeks."

What also needs to be noted is that Georgia – the school Davis continues to name as his leader – hasn't met with Davis this week. The five-star prospect will visit Alabama this weekend, and then see Auburn the following weekend. Notre Dame is expected to return next Thursday.
